Blessed Visor

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Everyday battles

As the dragon breathed more fire, the grass around it started to burn, creating a huge flame barrier. Just as the dragon was about to fly away, some men stabbed a crest on their wrist, conjuring creature, hawk-like birds, fleshy and scaly and they punctured its wing. A centipede-like creature emerged and pulled the dragon to the ground. Men brought chains with huge hooks and punctured the dragon's mouth, causing it to breathe fire and burn them. Men rolled on the floor, dying, while others brought sand to quench the flames.

Soon, General Finderlore walked in, and the dragon, already weakened, faked sleep. As the men let their guard down, the dragon launched itself into the sky, bringing forth huge flames with a huge blue core. The flames incinerated the men, leaving not even their bones. Finderlore jumped into the air, wielding a huge sword, and impaled the dragon's head. The dragon bled, and its brain and huge nerves or veins fell out, oozing with blood. It went back to the ground and fought on one leg, stretching its neck to break the distance between them.

Men constantly jumped in to push the dragon's head to hit another place as Finderlore and the dragon walked in circles, eyes locked. When the dragon opened its mouth, Finderlore saw his chance and broke one of the dragon's teeth to block its throat, causing the flame to be stopped. However, the dragon shot the tooth at high speed, like a huge cannonball, puncturing Finderlore's skin while still hot. The same could be said for the dragon's neck, which had expanded due to the blockage. Smoke filled the dragon's mouth.

A man jumped and used his body to hit the dragon's head against a nearby boulder, crushing its head. As Finderlore emerged from the dragon's mouth, the dragon's body still moved, releasing violent flames that crisped its own head. Finderlore walked up to the body, ripped the scaled covering its heart, and ripped its heart out. He brought a box and put the heart inside, saying, "This would serve as a great offering."

Men celebrated and mourned, some questioning why Finderlore was able to hold a dragon's heart, as dragon blood alone was corrosive and the cause of many diseases and curses. Finderlore claimed it was an old tale and told his men to burn the dragon, as it was possible for it to resurrect or its soul to acquire a new presence. "We must burn all evidence of the living," he said. "Worst of all, the corpse would bring about another pandemic like the one that lasted 400 years."

As men covered the dragon with wood and carved runes on its body, they created a circle and chanted a strange chant: "Bear my heart and wisdom, O songstress of fire, and teach us the way to set things ablaze, Zeta." As the corpse engulfed in flames protruded into the sky like a nuclear explosion, but smaller, the bones still remained, still on fire, and began to crack.

Suddenly, a mysterious person watching from the forest teleported to the explosion, sensing the death of something. He teleported, and a star-like symbol wrapped around him, transporting him to the location of someone's or something's death. He smiled, saying, "Finderlore, you'll be executed for the murder of the villagers."

The men were shocked, saying they went to the labyrinth. The mysterious person stated that they had met an ancient lich who used them as sacrifices for the upcoming Willow Festival. A man expressed displeasure at the celebration of the "little demon." He then asked, "Who are you?"

In a loud voice, the mysterious person replied, "I am Felix Gallardo, General of the Gail Empire, Arkansas the State of Bountiful, and Utah the Lore of Peace." Finderlore told Felix that he had met a man like him before, saying, "I helped the people, so why accuse me of such?"

Felix stated, "Foolish man, us generals are seen as deities, a bridge between the supernatural and the natural. We are the weapons of the Kingdom of Xeryl Astasia. If we were to lose a single battle, we'd be showing weakness, causing mere men to challenge us. We are based on the era of gladiatorial battles or victors of song, senseless blood spill. We are adorned as perfect beings, and you defiled that title. You're not fit to carry that title for allowing such grave losses."

Finderlore stated, "I'm no longer a general, meaning the interest of the nation is of no concern to me." Felix replied, "Nonsense, be it retired or not, men are waiting for a single mistake to claim our heads. When one becomes a general, you sign a contract of eternal glory and honor in exchange for never losing. That is who we are, what we wish to become, or attain a certain state in which we deem perfection. Just because you retired doesn't mean you still don't have the benefits..
