Chapter 65: MIDNIGHT BALL: III
"Hahaha," the lady laughed off the compliment.
"I see you already have captured the attention of this young man," Lady Carmarthen commented
Samantha pretended to act shy, "Lady Carmarthen, this is just a business partner." She said coyly.
Lady Carmarthen looked between the two and voiced, "Oh well, excuse my words earlier, kind sir."
The Marquess just brushed it off with a stiff smile and looked at Samantha.
Who just smiled back at him. While they were standing there awkwardly, hushed whispers started to erupt among the guests in the dining hall.
Three exceptionally dressed gorgeous women came down the long and wide stairs of the second floor, two of them looked to be youthful while there mother who looked to be only a tad bit older them walked in the middle.
Stacey had a pretentious smile on her face that hid the envy behind her eyes. She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw her sister wearing the dress that didn't fit her.
The lilac dress looked elegant and well fitted on her slim and tall figure.
She carried herself with grave and dignity while she walked along side there mother, which she found odd because her sister was never one to like being the center of attention like her.
She rarely attended any soirée to socialise with other ladies in the society, with the excuse of work at the tip of her tongue.
In fact, all year long, she only attended the 'midnight ball'. Because in some miraculous way, she was interested in attending this ball.
Just like she had predicted, most eyes in the room shifted to look at them.
Caroline discreetly searched among the crowd for that one pair of eyes that she wanted to capture the attention of.
To her luck, that set of eyes was looking her way, somehow that made her nervous, but her outward composure was as blank as a plain canvas.
Before she could fully bask in the attention, she saw the dashing man walk to the other side of the room.
Shifting her almond shaped eyes to that side, she saw a beautiful blonde woman dressed in a baby pink silky dress that draped to her feet, walking around a corner.
Jeremiah picked up Karrina's right hand and kissed the back of it like a true gentleman.
A small blush appeared on Karrina's round pale cheeks. She smiled at the vampire, and Jeremiah smiled back.
A certain vampiress watched the simple interaction with a heavy heart.
She hated the feeling, but what could she do, but watch and get hurt over and over again.
She had already reached the end of the stairs meeting her younger brother, who offered her his hand, "Milady," Stephen said.
"For the first time, sis, you decided to play dress up with mother and that girl," Stephen said it loud enough for his twin to hear, which dampened her mood even more.
"Stephen, behave." A masculine older voice said from behind the family, the Duke of the West, Sebastian Clayton walked towards his family, taking his wife's hand he continued, "This room is filled with influential people, that meaning potential suitors and potential Business partners. I expect you all to exhibit excellent manners and socialise effectively."
He looked at Stephen and Caroline pointedly, which almost made Stacey sing in praise.
The Duke Sebastian whisked away the Duchess and left the siblings to themselves.
Stacey stood with her head held high, gloating in the silent praise she received.
"It's pathetic how mother and father think that we are obliged to kiss people's asses just so that they can bend to our wishes when we can literally bend them. Unless when you can't, " Stephen narrated
"Hihihi, Brother, do not say that. It's like you are implying that we only use brute force and strength just because we are vampires. " Caroline giggled and voiced
"Well, we are, aren't we sister?" Stephen said to his older sister, who he in some cases idolised.
The two siblings proceeded to walk hand in hand while they approached the drinks serving station, completely ignoring their little sister who was left there glaring at their backs.
She understood the underlying meaning of their words, 'weak' 'weak', they never said it straightforwardly but not very subtly implied it, I will show them who's weak, she vowed.
Several malicious thoughts started to flood in her mind, revealing a sinister look in her eyes.
