Chapter 42
Little Niangao twisted around, holding hands and saying nothing.
Wen Yusheng was so angry that he bit into his face.
“You little heartless boy! You favour your daddy against me!”
Niangao quickly hugged Wen Yusheng like a little adult: “Papa, don’t cry! Don’t cry~ Good baby~”
Chen Yumo took off his coat and put on a pink apron.
“Today we have lunch… fried pork with beans, shredded fish, braised pork, and scrambled eggs with tomatoes. Is that enough, my dear?”
Wen Yusheng put little Niangao on his shoulders and thought for a moment, “That’s enough, that’s enough. Add another rice and steam two steamed buns.”
Chen Yumo wrote down all these dishes in his notebook. “Let’s add another soup, and I’ll make a supplement for Niangao too.”
“Anything is fine, do you want my help?”
Chen Yumo turned to look at Wen Yusheng, “No, you can play with Niangao. You didn’t come back all day yesterday. Niangao probably missed you. You don’t have to worry. I can do it alone.”
Wen Yusheng agreed very well, turned around, and walked to the cabinet. He opened the first drawer, took out a mask, and put it on little Niangao’s face. “I’ll take you to watch your Daddy cook.”
Niangao nodded, “Cook! Cook!”
Chen Yumo started to prepare the ingredients. The first dish to prepare was fried pork with beans.
Stir-fried pork with green beans was one of Wen Yusheng’s favourite dishes. First, he cut the green beans into sections, then poured them into a pot and boiled them in water for about three minutes.
After Chen Yumo poured the beans into the pot, he set the timer for three minutes and started doing other things.
He took out a piece of meat from the crisper cabinet of the refrigerator. The original thing he was holding was pork belly. He thought about it, put the pork belly aside, found a piece of leaner meat, cut it into small pieces, started adding various seasonings, and put on disposable gloves to knead the pieces of meat to make them more flavourful.
When the timer expired, the electric cooker made a beeping sound.
Chen Yumo turned around, turned off the electric cooking pot, scooped out the beans with a colander, walked to the faucet, and rinsed them with cold water.
Wen Yusheng looked at the side and asked, “Why do you need to wash them with cold water?”
Chen Yumo didn’t turn his head, “Rinse the beans with cold water. The beans will be chewier. If you just fish them out directly, the fried beans will be sticky, and you won’t like to eat them.”
Wen Yusheng nodded, “You still know how to cook! A good family man!”
Chen Yumo said nothing, but the slightly raised corners of his mouth betrayed him.
Then, he took out the marinated meat, poured the remaining seasonings into the kitchen trash can, poured a little vegetable oil, and started cooking.
He put all the meat and beans into the pot, added some seasonings and salt, and stir-fried until the flavour came out.
Wen Yusheng stood leaning against the door and could already smell the aroma of the food.
He couldn’t help but swallow a mouthful of saliva.
After the dish was out of the pot, Chen Yumo placed it on the kitchen table and covered it with a heat-insulating cover.
Wen Yusheng took a look and said, “If I had known earlier, I would have tasted it for you.”
Chen Yumo turned around and looked at him.
“You can’t eat in advance. You eat a little here and a little there, and then you won’t eat during the meal. By then, you will feel hungry again in the afternoon.”
Wen Yusheng hugged little Niangao and muttered, “How stingy. I’ll have three bowls of rice during dinner later and eat all the vegetables for you!”
