Chapter 5: Chapter 5 - Operation "Windbreaker"

Atlanta, September 2nd.

The outside compound of Site 02, 1 PM.

The outside of the camp had been revamped. The fences were taken down, and some heavy metal walls were placed further out to expand the space of the compound. The enclosed compound was way more spacious, allowing the new vehicles to budge in. A third improvised helipad was also built to accommodate an AH-6 little bird that they had managed to secure, it was loaded with 2 GAU-19s and some Hydra rockets. They found the AH-6 secured to a truck that had been abandoned, and also found several munitions to restock the helicopter.

They had expanded their personnel even more, changing from the past 330 to the now 430. Over 100 survivors had joined the Site as more kept slowly being attracted to the massive compound Luther had established. Now, instead of a single task force, Luther had decided to create 2 more. The Nu-4 "Dark Angels" and the Resh-1, "Royal Guards". The Dark Angels were composed of elite survivors and remnants of other MTFs, and their specialization was tactical insertions through the air using helicopters. Paratroopers of sorts. And the Resh-1 were men that specialized in the protection of O5 council members, and executing their will.

At this very moment, over 60 soldiers were standing Shoulder To Shoulder facing one of the helipads. Where Luther, alongside Erwin and Logan, were standing on the helipad which was elevated from the ground, giving them a height advantage over the men who were standing on the floor. Right now, they were preparing to take down the power station they had a week planning. In this mission, the 3 helicopters would be used, and several Humvees were prepared to depart as well. The Death Angels would insert from the top of the building and provide air cover as the ground teams cleared out the lower floors and established a perimeter.

A squad of engineers would also be present, to establish the basic defenses and to later attempt to recover the power station. The station was around 30 minutes away, it would be an easy journey that would massively simplify their operations. Everybody had their main weapons in hand, which ranged from M4A1s to P90s that were used for Site defense.

"Alright! Let's go over it one more short time," Luther said, resting his hands on his heavy vest. Dark Angels will primarily insert from the top of the buildings; remember there are four. The 2 Hawks will drop 8 soldiers on top of each building, once the Dark Angels have caused enough distraction, the rest of the 28 soldiers will come from the 2 MRAPs and 5 Humvees. The little bird will provide air recon and heavy cover in case it's needed, once it is all clear, the team of Engineers in Humvee number 5 will establish some basic defenses, and check the status of the Station." Luther paused, now placing his hand in his pistol. "It should be a quick and easy operation. Last week we obtained the machinery to assemble our bullets, now we need the power to make them work." He finished.

"Alright, everyone roll out!" Luther yelled as his men complied, each getting into a different vehicle that they were previously assigned to. Luther also boarded one of the Blackhawks as everyone started their engine. "This is Inquisitor to all stations; Death Angels will take the lead." he communicated through the radio as he closed the door on the Blackhawk.

In the air, a formation of a wedge made by the three helicopters could be seen as the AH-6 took the lead in the formation. Its armament for today was the classic Hydras and 12.7mm gatlings that tore through buildings and undead as if they were paper. On the Blackhawks, which had 16 men each prepared with their rifles in hand and melees prepared to engage.

The little bird was ordered to break formation to scout the facility, which they did. The scene was desolate, with some walkers on the rooftops while some others on the ground. They were attracted to the sound of the helicopter as it circled them and, with amazing trigger discipline, refrained from shooting. Soon enough, the 2 Blackhawks arrived in no time and, from above, began shooting at some of the infected.

"Deploy rapels, get the fuck out!" Each squad leader yelled loudly as they all attached to the rope that was used to deploy them. Soon each man was now on the rooftop either eliminating the rest of the walkers or keeping an eye below them. After a while, Luther, who was on the rooftop of the administrative building was holding his usual MP7 with the casual modifications.

"Alright! Yellow and Blue team move out!" Yelled Luther through the radio as the team on the administrative building and the generator room quickly opened the door to the roof and easily entered. As Luther entered 2nd they cleared out the top of the stairwell of the building and entered the first room. There they saw dozens of desks with documents all spread, they also spotted several walkers which were eliminated quickly by the team. In the desk room, at the end of it, there were 2 parallel rooms which had their doors closed.

"Alright, 4 of you check those 2 rooms, be careful." Said Luther as he returned to the staircase with the rest of the team. And carefully covered the stairs until the 4 men he had sent came back. "Yellow team, let's go. Inquisitor to all stations, move in." Ordered Luther, as the ground units immediately came to life and started moving to the station, in which they were met with a fence, but it was easily crushed under the power of the MRAP.

As the ground team approached they began clearing out the numerous walkers as they were air-covered by the UH60 which had a team of soldiers with M110s SASS, who were clearing out the walkers that posed an immediate threat to anyone. On the ground team, Logan, now wearing the Resh-1 patch, stabbed a walker that attempted to approach him as he fired his M4A1 SOPMOD at some of the faster zombies.

"All stations, keep on going." Logan communicated through the radio as he tore through some of the walkers alongside the MRAP which was using its 50 caliber MG to kill some of the undead. "Inquisitor to all units, Admin building clear!" communicated Luther through the radio explaining that they had managed to secure the admin building. Soon, all teams communicated the same message.

Soon, the exterior was also cleared, and now the station was now in their hands.

...

After the operation, 20 Dark Angels remained on the station alongside several of the engineers, as the other personnel retreated leaving them 2 Humvees for defense. Luther decided to travel back to Site-02, to meet with the O5 Council in order to decide the next step in the whole schematic. He was now sitting in the classical meeting room, his SO gear still with him. Each and every single O5 was now sitting there, the room being guarded by the elite and recently formed Resh-1.

"Alright people. Now that we have the station, we need to wait until the engineers patch it up so we can generate a good amount of power, and we can finally build the weapon and bullet manufacturing rooms." Andre explained in his seat as he took a glass of water "Yes. I agree with O5-2, but now it's time to jump at the Airport. Scout teams report that the Military had established a small FOB there, and they could spot several hangars which may contain equipment useful to us. We have confirmation that they spotted a C130 parked in one of the hangars." Erwin abruptly said.

"But arent the runways destroyed? When I was stuck on that roof I could see a Boeing crash straight down." Luther interrupted abruptly as he took of his FAST helmet. "Yes, but nothing concrete can't fix. Now that we have the power, we can afford it." Erwin explained.

"On other notes, I have established contact with remnants of the old MTF—specifically, units from Beta-7, Epsilon-9, and Eta-5. We have been attempting to communicate with other MTFs for days and finally got an answer. They state that they are near Athens, and that they have over 63 men who survived the outbreak, and that they are sheltering on a private airport they found." A silent man known as Arthur suddenly spoke. He was the director of Intelligence or the now reformed Intelligence Agency.

"That's some great fucking news. Hopefully they still have their Task Force equipment, and can help us incinerate those dead fuckers." Erwin yelled excitedly as Luther also nodded in happiness. "Athens is not far away. Send in a Blackhawk to get them some supplies they may need." Luther ordered.

...

Back over to the Power station Logan was ordered to stay there with the Dark Angels on defense duty. Logan was standing on top of a rooftop with his M4A1, as he stood guard. Now the dead of the night engulfed the entirety of the landscape, and they had to stand guard now that they had a new location under their control. Logan could hear the engineers arguing about the generators and their utility, it seemed that they could put them back in service if they borrowed some of the parts from Site 02. Logan simply kept watching around with his M4A1, until something unusual caught his attention.

From the distance, he spotted a group of armed people silently walking in the direction of the plant, Logan identified 4 men with rifles and 3 more with shorter weapons. He could describe some of them as the others were wearing masks they were not the only ones who were interested in the power station.

"This is Arrow to all units, be advised, that armed men are approaching the facility quickly. ED is around 500 meters, and units are to take defensive positions." He ordered through the radio, looked at the targets again, and switched the weapon to semi-automatic. He managed to observe that some of them had pointed at the lonely station on the plain, confirming the fact that they were under attack. He ordered some of his men with the M110s to ready their weapons, and so they did.

A quick succession of suppressed gunfire could be heard, and soon, the men were dead. Logan made sure they were all terminated, then relayed the information to Luther who received it. It could be that these people were independent survivors, but it was clear that they were soldiers from another organization, they did not have any survival equipment and were sent there to take over. Somebody must have spotted them taking over the facility and attempted to do a surprise attack on them that would leave them paralyzed and gone.

What they did not count on was that the men stationed there were far from common. Some of them were indeed common but were protected by men far more expert than any of them. Logan, after reporting the incident, decided to place the vehicles in a more strategic way to defend the whole place, as now they were going to be observed by an enemy group capable of deploying men for combat.

Logan stared at the endless stars as he decided to sleep on the roof in case something bad happened. He would be the last to be discovered and could be the first to respond to any problems that may arise due to the now constant threat.

...

In a distant place, several men were prone near a forest most of them had binoculars or were carefully looking at the silent power station. They had been witness to the slaughter of their men, and it was evident the people stationed there were professionals. A man was holding a pair of binoculars as he stood up, picking up a nearby rifle.

"Let's come another day. We got what we wanted, and we know those are relatively strong people." The man, named Arthur, slowly walked off to the woods. The other eight men, who were also looking at the station, also began to look away and follow the man. "Yeah. Whoever shot them had some good aim. We need to come back, though. Our people need the generators." Another man, notoriously younger, spoke.

All of the men silently walked, until they found several vehicles in which they got on, and left. On the dark road, everybody was silently holding their weapons. They had around 4 vehicles, with men split evenly between them. These men belonged to a foreign community hidden in Atlanta. It was evident they had a decent amount of power, as they afforded to send an expedition to King County's Power Station. The Community in itself was in the southern part of Atlanta, hidden within a hospital that protected them from walkers, they were capable of cutting off and creating multiple walls to stop them from attacking their camp.

In this case, the man named Arthur was the right hand man of the leader. Arthur was a 5'11 man with a grown beard, and was around 30-ish years old. All of the men were on their respective vehicles until they arrived to Atlanta. Atlanta and King County were not that far away, around 15 or 30 minutes in car, shorter in faster vehicles like helicopters.

This community was around 250 people in size, and was made up of normal survivors and several police remnants, they even had control of a hospital and several doctors, something that is key to survival in this new world. Originally, they had wished to take over the station to power up the Hospital that was their main center of operations.
