Chapter 86: Farewell
"Haha…"
Xiao Yan sneered, "Don't worry, I'll find my own happiness. I wish you the same."
But in his heart, he thought: Not only will I find my own happiness, but I, Xiao Yan, will find a group of them.
God knows how much pain he felt saying those words.
The duck had flown away just as it was placed in the pot. How could it not hurt? If he had just added a bit more fire, the duck would've been cooked, and he could've enjoyed the delicious meat. But before the fire was even lit, the duck ran off.
No one could understand the heartache except Xiao Yan himself.
At this moment, Yun Yun stood up and said, "Patriarch Xiao, the three Qi Gathering Pills in the hall are my apology."
As Yun Yun spoke, the eyes of the Xiao family elders lit up.
Before Xiao Zhan could respond, the Great Elder quickly stood and said, "Thank you, Sect Master Yun Yun."
Yun Xui, observing the Great Elder's behavior, couldn't help but shake his head. He thought to himself: The Xiao Clan has truly fallen. I wonder if Xiao Xuan would crawl out of the Heavenly Tomb and beat the Great Elder to death if he saw this scene.
When Xiao Zhan heard the Great Elder's words, his face darkened. He glared at him, but the Great Elder ignored it, acting as though he hadn't noticed at all.
In the Great Elder's eyes, the Qi Gathering Pills were far more valuable than Xiao Zhan's glares. Ten glares wouldn't matter as long as he could secure those pills.
Changing the Great Elder's mind was impossible.
Xiao Zhan stood and said, "Sect Master Yun Yun, we cannot accept such generosity. My Xiao family is unworthy of the three Qi Gathering Pills. Please take them back."
"Xiao Zhan, you…"
When the Great Elder and other elders heard this, their faces turned sour. To them, Xiao Zhan was incredibly foolish.
Refusing three Qi Gathering Pills? Ridiculous!
Yun Yun smiled softly and said, "I never take back what I've given. Since the three Qi Gathering Pills are a gift, they naturally cannot be taken back."
"Brilliant!"
Hearing this, the Great Elder and the other elders beamed with joy, clearly pleased with Yun Yun's decision.
Yun Yun and Nalan Su exchanged glances and nodded slightly, both understanding that it would be inappropriate to remain in the Xiao family any longer.
Nalan Su stood and said apologetically, "Brother Xiao, I'm sorry to have troubled you today. We'll take our leave now."
Xiao Zhan remained silent, indirectly agreeing with Nalan Su's words.
With everything that had transpired, it was impossible for Nalan Su and his party to stay in the Xiao household. Xiao Zhan was secretly glad to see them leave.
As Nalan Su waved to Nalan Yanran, he said, "Yanran, you've been willful this time. You'll face the consequences when we return. Let's go."
Holding the divorce letter, Nalan Yanran felt a sense of relief. She wasn't concerned about any "consequences." She walked toward Nalan Su.
As she passed Xiao Yan, Nalan Yanran paused and said, "No matter what, thank you again."
"There's no need," Xiao Yan replied, clenching his fists through gritted teeth.
To him, Nalan Yanran's words felt like humiliation, as if she was mocking his inability to win her over.
Without acknowledging his response, Nalan Yanran walked to Nalan Su's side. Nalan Su bade his farewell again and left with her.
"Let's go."
Seeing the show come to an end, Yun Xui grabbed Xiao Xun'er's hand and prepared to leave.
After walking a few steps, Nalan Yanran called out to Yun Xui, "Will we meet again in the future, Brother Xui?"
"Um?"
Yun Xui paused briefly, glanced at Nalan Yanran, and replied, "If fate allows it, we'll meet again."
Then, Yun Xui continued walking, holding Xiao Xun'er's hand.
"Alright," Nalan Yanran muttered, watching Yun Xui's retreating figure.
Many bystanders observed this and began to understand why Nalan Yanran had suddenly broken off her engagement.
"Hmph, women…"
Xiao Yan clenched his fists, his expression darkened. In his heart, he thought angrily: Yun Xui, it's all because of you. Stealing my Xun'er wasn't enough; you refused to accept me as your disciple. Now you've taken my Yanran. Just you wait—I, Xiao Yan won't let you go! Thirty years east, thirty years west, don't bully the young and poor!
---
On the way to Xiao Xun'er's courtyard, she asked, "Brother Xui, what is fate?"
"Fate?"
Yun Xui looked toward the sky and answered, "What the heavens arrange is fate."
"Oh…"
Xiao Xun'er stopped in her tracks.
Yun Xui, puzzled, looked at her and asked, "Xun'er, why aren't you walking?"
Xiao Xun'er looked serious as she asked, "Then, is Xun'er fated to be with Brother Xui?"
"Haha…"
"Of course," Yun Xui replied, gently patting her head.
"Xun'er and I meeting is all arranged by fate. Don't you think it's destiny?"
"Yes." Xiao Xun'er nodded.
"Will Brother Xui ever stop wanting Xun'er?" she asked earnestly.
"Why would I?" Yun Xui said, rubbing her head affectionately.
"I don't know." Xiao Xun'er shook her head, the words Nalan Yanran had spoken earlier weighing on her mind.
"Don't overthink it, little one," Yun Xui reassured her. "We're engaged. When you grow up, you'll marry Brother Xui."
Smelling the faint fragrance of her hair, Yun Xui whispered softly, "You'll always be mine."
Hearing this, Xiao Xun'er's eyes sparkled, determination flashing in her gaze. She clenched her fists and declared, "Xun'er will work hard to grow up!"
"That's the spirit," Yun Xui said with a chuckle.
---
Meanwhile, Yun Yun and Nalan Su led Nalan Yanran out of the Xiao Mansion.
"Yanran, you were quite willful this time," Yun Yun scolded gently. "Fortunately, Xiao Yan was reasonable enough to give you the divorce letter."
"Haha…" Xiao Yan sneered inwardly.
Nalan Yanran stuck out her tongue playfully and said, "I know I was wrong this time."
Sigh…
"At least it's over now," Yun Yun said with a helpless shake of her head.
Turning to Nalan Su, she said, "Chief Nalan, please escort Yanran back to the imperial capital. I have some matters to attend to and can't accompany you."
"Understood," Nalan Su replied with a nod. He left with Nalan Yanran in tow.
Yun Yun watched their retreating figures, then turned to glance back at the Xiao Mansion.
Lost in thought, she stood there for a few moments before shaking off her reverie and heading toward the Mittel Auction House to purchase supplies.
