Call me Akuma

Chapter 8: The God

The Doppelganger is a Heteromorphic species with the racial ability to shapeshift, belonging to the shapeshifter category of races and classes. This category includes other shapeshifter types such as Werewolves, Druids, Shifters, and more. The original appearance of a Doppelganger is humanoid, with three claws, but their face resembles an egg, featuring empty holes where the eyes and mouth should be.

Players who choose the Doppelganger race have access to two racial evolution paths. Just as the Skeleton Mage evolves into an Elder Lich and then into an Overlord—following the evolutionary path of the undead—the Doppelganger evolves into a Greater Doppelganger and, eventually, a Greatest Doppelganger.

The final forms of all races and classes in YGGDRASIL remain a mystery, as the game developers left this entirely up to the players to discover. For an evolution to occur, two key requirements must be met: the player must reach the appropriate level, and the evolutionary conditions must be satisfied. Additionally, the number of players who can achieve the same evolution is limited, a restriction deliberately set by the game developers.

Because of this limitation, any player who learns about a class or racial evolution guards the information fiercely. Some use this knowledge for a strategic advantage in the game, while others sell it to major guilds for significant rewards. As a result, evolution conditions are one of the most closely guarded secrets in YGGDRASIL, especially among guilds.

Guilds, in particular, have amassed the most knowledge about evolutionary paths, hoarding it to ensure their dominance. This hoarding of information has made guilds incredibly powerful, as they reserve the best evolutionary paths for their members. Consequently, higher-evolution players are almost exclusively found within guilds.

Through the cheat provided by Mydoom, Akuma learned of the three stages of racial evolution for Doppelgangers: Greater Doppelganger, Greatest Doppelganger and perfect Doppelganger.

A basic Doppelganger possesses the ability to transform into any form they desire depending on their racial level. They can replicate up to level 40 abilities, but their mimicry has limits. They are also capable of weak telepathy, which allows them to read the surface thoughts of individuals they interact with during their shapeshifting. However, this telepathic ability is ineffective against anyone with even the weakest mental defenses, as it is classified as a psychic attack.

Doppelgangers can mimic not only appearances but also the clothing and equipment of their targets. However, while they can copy the look of these items, they cannot replicate their abilities or effects.

The Doppelganger's most remarkable trait is their ability to bypass Karma-based restrictions in the game. For example, while a Skeleton Mage—a class bound by negative karma—cannot wield holy items, a Doppelganger can use such items freely. However, this ability is restricted to items below Legacy-class.

In YGGDRASIL, item tiers are ranked in the following order: Low-Class Items, Middle-Class Items, High-Class Items, Top-Class Items, Legacy-Class Items, Relic-Class Items, Legendary-Class Items, Divine-Class Items, and finally, World Champion Items.

A notable example of a basic Doppelganger is Narberal Gamma, who is a level 63 Doppelganger. Most of her levels are allocated to her job class rather than her racial class, leaving her Doppelganger racial level at only level 1. Because of this, she is limited to taking two forms and can only copy a restricted number of spells.

When players max out the racial class of Doppelganger at level 15, they gain the opportunity to fulfill certain conditions to evolve into a Greater Doppelganger. This evolution enhances their abilities beyond those of a regular Doppelganger, and one distinct physical change is the addition of a fourth finger instead of three.

Greater Doppelgangers can imitate players up to level 60, copying 90% of their abilities. They also gain the ability to store up to 45 forms, depending on their racial level. Unlike the imitation ability, which requires a living target to be present for replication, stored forms allow the Doppelganger to transform into the target at any time.

Stored forms are permanent records of players that the Doppelganger has copied, and they can even store forms of players up to level 100, provided the Doppelganger itself is at that level. While the transformation grants access to 90% of the copied player's abilities, there is a cooldown period after using a stored form, imposing a time restriction before the form can be used again. This feature offers Greater Doppelgangers a significant tactical advantage, as they can strategically switch between forms without needing their target to be physically present.

Additionally, Greater Doppelgangers gain more advanced telepathic abilities. They can read deeper thoughts, not just surface-level ones, and can also conceal their own mental presence from others. However, like their earlier form, they cannot copy the abilities or magical properties of items or equipment.

A notable example of a Greater Doppelganger is Pandora's Actor. He has 45 stored forms, 41 of which belong to members of the guild Ainz Ooal Gown. However, he can only replicate their skills and abilities at 80% of their original potency, reflecting the inherent limitations of Doppelganger mimicry.

Greatest Doppelganger have 5 finger in their hand it can imitate player up to level 80 and below they can also copy 95 percentage of ability that player, they also have access to 70 forms and their psychic attack it's much stronger they can now read even people they're target memory but any player who has decent psychic resistant can negate the effect. Greatest doppelganger can use higher karma restricted item like Legendary Class Items

Greatest Doppelgangers have five fingers on each hand, marking their evolution. They can imitate players up to level 80 and below, copying 95% of the target's abilities. Additionally, they gain access to 70 stored forms. Their psychic abilities are significantly stronger, allowing them to delve into a target's memories. However, players with decent psychic resistance can nullify or weaken the effect.

Greatest Doppelgangers also gain the unique ability to temporarily copy the effects of one below Legendary-Class Item, though this is limited to a short duration.

The Greatest Doppelgangers also gain the ability to use higher karma-restricted items, including Legendary-Class Items, further enhancing their versatility and power.

The final form of the Doppelganger is the Perfect Doppelganger, a hidden evolution that could only be unlocked through luck or by thoroughly exploring the lore of the Doppelganger to uncover clues. This made it one of the rarest evolutions in the game, and no player had ever unlocked it, leaving the Greatest Doppelganger as the highest known evolution.

The Perfect Doppelganger evolution grants a single unique ability that truly lives up to its name: the power to perfectly replicate a target. This includes the target's abilities, the items they are wearing, and even their memories. However, the replication does not extend to items stored in the target's inventory.

This ability represents the pinnacle of a Doppelganger's potential but comes with strict limitations. The transformation lasts only three minutes, and the Doppelganger must maintain a clear line of sight to the target to initiate the copy. Additionally, after using this ability, it cannot be reactivated for 24 hours, ensuring that it must be used with careful planning and precision.

Akuma chose to play as a Perfect Doppelganger, but he did not stop at the standard limits imposed by the game. As for his character level, he altered it to a number so incomprehensibly vast that it defied comprehension. If someone were to attempt counting it, they would require thousands of generations merely to approach it. His stats followed the same overwhelming principle—each value was so astronomically high that defeating him became an impossibility. Victory against Akuma was not just improbable; it was utterly inconceivable. In essence, he transcended the boundaries of mortal power, becoming a god within the game.

For his racial class, Akuma made several radical modifications. While a Perfect Doppelganger is typically limited to storing up to 70 forms, he increased this to billions, with each form replicating its original at 999999% potency, surpassing the usual limit of 95%. Moreover, he redefined the essence of the Doppelganger's mimicry. Akuma granted himself the ability to perfectly copy anything he targeted—be it abilities, stats, or even items—with absolute precision. Unlike the original ability, which came with time constraints and usage limitations, Akuma's mimicry was unrestricted. He could copy any item or ability without time limits, cooldowns, or quantity restrictions.

In this form, Akuma was no longer bound by the mechanics of YGGDRASIL. He transcended the game's very foundation, becoming a force beyond anything within its digital world. Using his Perfect Doppelganger abilities, Akuma stored every race in the game within his repertoire, including powerful entities like World Enemies—bosses designed to challenge entire guilds. However, merely storing them wasn't enough for Akuma. He meticulously modified their abilities and stats, amplifying them to unprecedented levels, ensuring each form granted him unparalleled power.

Akuma didn't stop there. He expanded his inventory capacity billions of times over, creating an endless vault. With this limitless space, he proceeded to acquire every single item in YGGDRASIL, including the elusive and coveted World Items, and removed all restrictions and cooldowns from them. By reshaping their functionality, he transformed them into tools of ultimate dominance, wielding them without limitation.

In YGGDRASIL, players had access to a staggering 2,000 basic and advanced job classes, all of which could be unlocked and chosen under various conditions. Some required specific achievements, such as slaying rare Ice Dragon monsters, while others demanded intricate prerequisites tied to quests or lore. Players could theoretically choose as many job classes as they wished, provided the selected jobs did not conflict with one another. For instance, it was impossible to combine the Priest job class with the Dark Priest job class due to their opposing natures.

Despite this freedom, most players opted for only two or three job classes. The limitation lay in YGGDRASIL's level cap, which constrained how many levels could be distributed across job classes. As a result, focusing on one or two classes allowed players to maximize their potential, creating specialized and powerful builds. Those who spread their levels too thin across multiple classes often found themselves lacking the strength or abilities needed to compete effectively, leaving such experiments rare.

Akuma, however, transcended these limitations. By rewriting the rules, he bypassed not only the constraints of levels and conflicting job classes but also the restrictions and cooldowns tied to abilities. This allowed him to unlock and master every single job in the game. From the fundamental Fighter and Wizard classes to the most obscure and advanced ones, Akuma claimed them all. He seamlessly integrated their skills and abilities into his godlike arsenal, becoming a living embodiment of YGGDRASIL's infinite potential. No path was closed to him; no power was beyond his reach.

After completing his modifications, Akuma stood as an invincible god within YGGDRASIL, wielding power beyond the imagination of even the game's creators. Every possible advantage was secured, and every rule was rewritten to serve his will. The changes and modifications had taken Akuma almost an entire day to complete, a relentless pursuit of perfection. As he stood there, basking in the absolute dominance he had forged, he noticed the countdown to the game's shutdown had begun.

For most players, this was the end. But for Akuma, this wasn't just a countdown to the closure of YGGDRASIL—it was the herald of a new beginning, a moment of triumph over the helplessness he had once known. Now, he stood on the precipice of a victory that no one else could fathom.

The numbers on the countdown continued to tick down, each passing second intensifying the atmosphere:

As the final number flashed, a silence enveloped Akuma, his heart steady and unshaken. He hoped he wouldn't see any familiar faces.
