Chapter 295 - Hah! Men
In the middle of the night, Ruo Manni suddenly opened her eyes, and Hebrew Adam woke up as well, instinctively tightening his arms around the delicate figure in his embrace.
When Hebrew Adam moved, Ruo Manni realized she was lying in his arms. Her hand rested on his broad chest, and her face flushed red.
Hebrew Adam, however, displayed a satisfied smile, lowering his head to plant a light kiss on the girl’s rosy cheek. In a gentle voice, he said, “I’ll go check it out. You don’t need to get up.”
In truth, with their mental abilities, they had already “seen” what was outside. For Hebrew Adam to handle it alone was a small task, making it unnecessary for everyone to head out.
Ruo Manni also “saw” that Hua Deli and Tamaki Kazia had already left the room, but Mina-Olli and Sheila had stayed behind.
Ruo Manni responded softly, burying her face in the blanket, too embarrassed to meet the man’s gaze. After all, just a few hours earlier, she had been coaxed by him into doing so many embarrassing things.
As soon as Hebrew Adam stepped out, the door automatically closed behind him. Only then did Ruo Manni pull the blanket down slightly and let out a small sigh.
Her mind uncontrollably wandered back to the events before they fell asleep. The palm of her right hand seemed to remember that burning sensation, and her wrist still felt a bit sore and numb.
Indeed, men are just men—no matter the world. When a man coaxes a woman into sleeping together, it’s simply impossible to trust him.
He had said he wouldn’t force her or make her uncomfortable, but with his kisses and coaxing, she hazily allowed him to do everything except the final step. Especially pitiful was her right hand, which was tricked into hard labor for most of the night.
This man truly lived up to the playboy image from the novel. Even though his fate in this lifetime differed from the original story, his physical prowess remained… Ruo Manni hurriedly blocked out some improper memories. But thoughts are tricky things—wanting not to think about something doesn’t make it disappear.
To keep her mind from straying further, Ruo Manni quickly used her mental abilities to “look” outside and redirect her attention.
A group of mutated animals had approached earlier. These creatures seemed to have developed some level of intelligence, sneaking over under the cover of darkness with surprising stealth.
If this had been a group of human survivors from this world, they might have suffered greatly. However, these unlucky mutated animals had encountered their group instead.
Since the creatures had approached from the rear, the single men in the back vehicle were already responding swiftly, rushing out to fight. Having spent the entire day bored, they were thrilled to finally have a chance to stretch their muscles.
By the time Hebrew Adam, Hua Deli, and Tamaki Kazia got out of the vehicle, the group of single men had already dealt with thirty to forty large mutated animals as effortlessly as slicing vegetables.
Ruo Manni even “heard” Dean Atchison grumbling irritably, “These beasts were too few and too weak. We didn’t even get properly warmed up before it was all over.”
Hebrew Adam and the others had no interest in bantering with the single men in the dead of night. Once the danger was resolved, they returned to the vehicle and each went back to their respective rooms.
Ruo Manni buried her face back in the blanket. When Hebrew Adam came in, he cheerfully took off his shoes, climbed into bed, and pulled the soft, fragrant beauty into his arms.
Although he felt a bit regretful about not fully indulging himself, Hebrew Adam also understood Ruo Manni’s reasons for holding back, which left him slightly concerned. However, if it hadn’t been for this mission, he might have waited ten or even twenty years in the real world just to hold her in his arms, let alone share a bed.
They would be spending fifty years together in this world—fifty years of living side by side. No matter what secrets Ruo Manni might be hiding in her heart, he was confident he could resolve them over time. A pleased smile appeared on Hebrew Adam’s lips.
As for Liu Yang and Wang Miaomiao, their combat skills were roughly equivalent to second-level warriors in the interstellar age compared to Ruo Manni and her companions.
The RV was soundproof and well-insulated, so they hadn’t heard any noises and, lacking mental perception abilities, were completely unaware of the mutated animal attack during the night.
Perhaps subconsciously, they trusted the group who had saved them, knowing that each person was incredibly strong. Exhausted from the day’s events, Liu Yang and Wang Miaomiao slept soundly through the night. When they awoke, the sun was already high in the sky, and they hurried to get up.
Feeling embarrassed for having slept so late, Wang Miaomiao momentarily forgot about her fractured leg. She got out of bed and took a few steps before suddenly realizing—but instead of pain, she felt nothing. Overjoyed, she exclaimed, “My leg is healed!”
“How is that possible? You had a fracture! It takes at least ten days to a couple of weeks to heal,” Liu Yang said, clearly skeptical as he hurried to help her sit back on the bed.
“It really doesn’t hurt anymore. I don’t feel like I had a fracture at all. Maybe you were mistaken—it might’ve just been a bone bruise,” Wang Miaomiao said as she touched her thigh, which was still wrapped in bandages.
“But that girl said you had a fracture,” Liu Yang replied, unwilling to believe she could’ve been wrong. He guessed instead that the medication they’d used might have pain-relieving properties.
Wang Miaomiao felt the same way and exchanged a glance with Liu Yang. She tried moving a bit and discovered that the fractured area had indeed healed.
“That girl said you had a fracture. She wrapped some kind of device around your injury and mentioned that it would heal by today after being removed,” Liu Yang recalled the girl’s words.
At that time, Wang Miaomiao had been unconscious and hadn’t heard the explanation.
“If that’s true, then the device wrapped around my thigh, which looked like a bandage, must be incredibly advanced,” Wang Miaomiao murmured in amazement. “What do you think their background is?”
Liu Yang shook his head. “I have no idea, but it’s reassuring to know there are such powerful people among humans.”
Feeling uncomfortable discussing their benefactors behind their backs, the two quickly ended the conversation and went outside.
The sight outside startled them. During the night, a group of mutated creatures had attacked, only to be entirely wiped out and left discarded by the roadside. Wang Miaomiao stared at the largest of the creatures—a mutated wolfhound the size of a bull—and marveled at how casually this group had dealt with the situation as if nothing had happened.
“Is this mutated wolfhound one of the five that attacked us in Jünyang City?” Liu Yang asked Ruo Manni, uncertain.
“Yes,” Ruo Manni confirmed. “Yesterday, I noticed this mutated wolfhound lurking far behind us. I suspected it might try to retaliate, but I didn’t expect it to gather other animals for an ambush.”
Liu Yang shuddered at the thought. “I’ve heard people say that mutated animals are incredibly vengeful. If you fight them, you must eliminate them completely, or they’ll come back for revenge. I didn’t believe it before, but now I see it’s true.”
“You know how it is,” Wang Miaomiao said. “Since the apocalypse, animals have been getting smarter. Those domesticated pets that mutated—some still stay by their owners’ sides, but they’re becoming harder to control. It’s like they’ve developed minds of their own.”
It seemed as if this world’s fate was truly determined to doom humanity. As if the powerful threat of zombies wasn’t enough, even stronger mutated animals had appeared. Humans simply couldn’t rely on physical combat ability alone to contend with them.
While Ruo Manni pondered this, she asked Wang Miaomiao, “Are these mutated animals edible?”
“They are,” Wang Miaomiao replied, her eyes lighting up. Then, with a hint of regret, she added, “But there’s way too much here. We can’t take it all with us.”
