Chapter 47 - Seeking Help
Officer George didn’t need to knock; he opened the door directly and entered with his men, clearly having the security code for Ruo Manni’s home.
Ruo Manni had no reason to be displeased; she knew it was authorized by Captain Lin. After all, given the uncertain situation indoors, if an intruder had already entered, would Officer George really knock and wait for her to answer?
Since there was a better way to enter, Officer George certainly wouldn’t choose to break down the door and cause a commotion.
Besides, the homeowner could change the security code at any time. Once this matter was settled, Ruo Manni could set a new security password.
With the reinforcements here, Ruo Manni, following Captain Lin’s instructions, remained hidden behind the dressing table and didn’t move unnecessarily.
Officer George and his two subordinates rushed into the bedroom, quickly dispersing to survey the area. When he saw Ruo Manni safely hidden behind the dressing table, he visibly relaxed.
As Officer George looked her way, Ruo Manni silently pointed toward the windowsill.
One of the young soldiers in special operations gear cautiously approached on George’s left, examining the area closely.
The young soldier’s gaze was sharp; he quickly spotted the melting point on the security net. However, he didn’t rush over to inspect it immediately. Instead, he first checked the surrounding environment, ensuring there was no danger before examining it in detail.
Officer George and another soldier conducted another round of inspection and confirmed that there was no danger before speaking. “Miss Ruo Manni, the intruder has left.”
Ruo Manni let out a sigh of relief and obediently stepped out from behind the dressing table, expressing her gratitude. “Thank you for coming.”
“Miss Ruo Manni, you handled the crisis well. No wonder you ranked in the top ten in the Xuan Gu First Military Academy assessment. Your psychological resilience is impressive. Please share what you know,” Officer George said with a warm smile.
As Captain Lin’s most capable subordinate, George had also used a considerable amount of Teresa Du’s potions, so he had always taken good care of Ruo Manni.
“This was melted with a thermal weapon; it’s a common method used by assassins. What kind of person would hire a killer for such a hefty price for a girl like you? Luckily, you were vigilant,” the young soldier inspecting the windowsill remarked.
“I checked the traces of the melted security net, and the assassin must have left at least two minutes before we arrived.”
“Did he receive word of our deployment? An assassin of this caliber must have reliable channels to get information,” another soldier added.
Ruo Manni’s eyes flickered, and Officer George noticed this sensitively, asking, “Ruo Manni, do you know something? Is there a suspect you have in mind?”
In a low voice, Ruo Manni relayed what she had seen using her mental powers, about the black-clad figure driving away the invisible person. She then mentioned how Aoi Dan had persuaded her to buy the second-generation gene enhancement serum.
Ruo Manni initially thought that Aoi Dan, the malicious female antagonist, would soon leave Topaz Star and would definitely not want to return, so she had refrained from mentioning it to Captain Lin to avoid causing trouble.
However, now that someone had been hired to kill her, Ruo Manni felt it was necessary to provide some information to Captain Lin that he wasn’t aware of, so that Officer George and the others wouldn’t be misled and could gather useful intel.
After hearing her, Officer George sent out a message and walked out of the bedroom. A little while later, he returned and said to Ruo Manni, “We’ve confirmed that there is no danger around now. Your Uncle Lin said you have an assessment tomorrow, so you should rest. Uncle George will keep watch here tonight, and we will do our best to find the bad guys tomorrow. Don’t be afraid.”
Ruo Manni wasn’t truly a little girl and didn’t possess the typical fragility of one. After all, the intruder hadn’t even managed to breach the security net before a mysterious figure in black scared him off. She hadn’t even come face to face with the assassin, so tonight couldn’t be considered a true fright.
However, as an ordinary girl who had lived in peaceful times in her past life, she had never experienced an assassination attempt, so facing such a situation for the first time was indeed a small shock for her.
Fortunately, even though Ruo Manni was an orphan, she had the strong support of her mentor and his wife. A reliable military response arrived within five minutes of her distress signal, sparing her the panic of feeling helpless.
After comforting Ruo Manni, Officer George went to the living room. Ruo Manni then instructed the robotic butler to serve them food before returning to her bedroom.
Although Ruo Manni wasn’t too frightened, she couldn’t fall asleep once she lay down.
She realized that if the perpetrator wasn’t caught and questioned about their instigator, this situation might not end here. Until she arrived at the Xuan Gu First Military Academy, she would need to be cautious everywhere.
Ruo Manni resolved that no matter how tired she was in the future, she would sleep in the holographic game chamber.
This special combat holographic game chamber had the best security features. Without the user’s permission, it couldn’t be forcefully opened; even the latest cutting tools couldn’t penetrate its tough exterior.
Meanwhile, if an outsider entered the room containing the holographic game chamber, the chamber’s smart system would alert the user inside and send video feeds, allowing them to decide whether to call for help.
In other words, if Ruo Manni had been in the game chamber tonight, even if she hadn’t sensed the intruder outside at first, the intruder wouldn’t have been able to breach the chamber’s security and harm her, sparing her the anxiety of counting the minutes while waiting for rescue.
Of course, this assumption was based on Ruo Manni knowing that Captain Lin would send someone to save her and that she wouldn’t be left passively waiting for police assistance.
As for the instigator, Ruo Manni immediately suspected Aoi Dan.
The reason Ruo Manni sensed something was wrong even in her sleep was that the lurking assailant outside had a strong killing intent; their purpose was to assassinate her.
Aoi Dan was not a simple 15-year-old girl but a ruthless reincarnate with a history of violence. She had always wanted Ruo Manni’s life and aimed to seize her special holographic game chamber.
From the moment Ruo Manni was unexpectedly thrust into the assessment competition, she had a suspicion: given Aoi Dan’s character, when she discovered that Ruo Manni had surprisingly applied to the Mecha Combat Department and ranked in the top ten in the competition, Aoi Dan would definitely not accept it.
Since Aoi Dan had already attempted to harm Ruo Manni, when she found out that her previous malicious scheme had turned into an act of “helping others,” she would surely be unable to tolerate it, making it unsurprising that she would strike again.
As for the other suspects Ruo Manni had in mind, if the information she found online was correct, the woman who would harm her was already deceased, unless it was a family member of that woman.
However, since they were not directly involved, the family members would likely only act opportunistically and wouldn’t go to such lengths.
