Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 61 - Too Tired

Ruo Manni wanted to maintain a normal classmate relationship with Mina-Olli and Sheila-Shaheen, and she didn’t mind reaching out first. However, if Mina-Olli didn’t respond, she wouldn’t initiate again in the future.

Mina-Oli glanced at Ruo Manni’s outstretched hand. While she didn’t say anything, she not only didn’t pull away but leaned in slightly.

As they got closer, Ruo Manni realized that Mina-Olli’s condition was worse than she had expected. Mina-Olli was gritting her teeth, holding her breath, and struggling to keep going.

Hua Deli caught up from behind and noticed the two girls supporting each other. He looked surprised. After glancing back at them, he encouraged, “Just hang on a bit longer; we’re almost there.”

After running over twenty laps, Hua Deli’s voice was slightly out of breath, but he clearly hadn’t reached his limit.

Soon after, Dean Atchison caught up from behind as well, giving them some encouragement before gradually pulling ahead. He didn’t appear very tired either.

Gao Haitao and Su Forty-Three passed them one after the other, only slightly breathless.

Finally, the last ones to arrive were Tamaki Kazia, Tino Venamoinen, Ninja King Ren Wuyue, and Sheila, who were all sticking together. Their cultivation levels were a notch lower than the previous four, and by the time they reached this point, their condition had deteriorated significantly.

Sheila was breathing heavily, clearly exhausted. She couldn’t run anymore and was merely fast-walking, but she was in slightly better shape than Ruo Manni and Mina-Olli, otherwise she wouldn’t have been able to catch up gradually.

“Cousin, I can’t go on anymore; can you help me a bit?” Sheila said softly.

Ruo Manni looked up in surprise at Sheila. What was this? Was she joking, or was she trying to put her cousin in a difficult position?

Mina-Olli, however, remained silent, not even lifting her head. Ruo Manni knew she was too exhausted to speak. If it weren’t for Ruo Manni’s support and her own pride, she would have probably collapsed long ago.

“Cousin, why are you ignoring me…” Sheila said with a pitiful expression, looking so forlorn.

Ruo Manni found it a bit hard to watch. Seriously, you’re a 1.8-meter-tall warrior with stunning looks; why act so helpless? It didn’t suit her at all. Why try to appear weak? Was being a damsel in distress trendy in this interstellar era?

If it weren’t for the fact that her cousin hadn’t spoken up, and Ruo Manni didn’t want to cause trouble, she really wanted to say, “Have some self-respect, okay? How could a mid-level fourth-tier warrior ask a late second-tier warrior for help?”

Indeed, a child who cries will receive care. Hearing Sheila’s soft plea, Ninja King Ren Wuyue, who was not far ahead, heroically turned back and said, “Sheila, I’ll help you.”

Sheila looked delighted. “Thank you!”

As the noisy one moved ahead, Ruo Manni felt that Mina-Olli seemed to gain some strength from the stimulus, quickening her pace a bit. However, it was all too brief; she quickly deflated again. Fortunately, they were only about five or six hundred meters from the finish line, and the prospect of victory lifted their spirits.

Ruo Manni had been supporting Mina-Olli for quite a distance, which significantly increased her physical exertion. She was also utterly exhausted.

But with victory in sight, Ruo Manni held her breath and managed to help Mina-Olli to the finish line.

After pushing herself to reach the end, Ruo Manni found herself even more unable to hold on than Mina-Olli, and they both sagged at the same time…

Fortunately, Dean Atchison and Hua Deli, who had arrived at the finish line early, hadn’t walked away. Just as the two girls were about to fall, they quickly reached out to support Ruo Manni and Mina-Olli, preventing a disaster of them both collapsing to the ground.

After barely making it, everyone finally collapsed on the ground, sipping some nutrient solution.

However, the group had barely rested for half an hour, just recovering about half of their energy, when Instructor Dudley came over to command them to gather.

This time, it wasn’t just Instructor Dudley alone; a middle-aged female officer accompanied him.

“Next, the warriors will follow me to the training hall, and the psychics will follow Lieutenant Xiang,” Instructor Dudley said.

A sixth-level warrior like Lieutenant Xiang is actually a Psychic? Ruo Manni glanced at the middle-aged lieutenant and then exchanged a surprised look with Mina-Olli.

“Psychics, step forward.” Lieutenant Xiang issued the command without any self-introduction, her serious expression indicating that she was a strict military officer.

Ruo Manni and Mina-Olli immediately straightened up and stepped forward as instructed.

“Stand at attention, turn left, and follow me,” Lieutenant Xiang commanded again.

After about two minutes of walking, Ruo Manni and Mina-Olli entered a small training room.

Lieutenant Xiang turned to assess the two girls for a moment before asking, “You both have your own Psychic meditation techniques, right?”

The lieutenant asked questions while looking at Ruo Manni.

Ruo Manni understood what this meant. Mina-Olli, being from a prestigious family, must have had access to good psychic meditation techniques. In contrast, as someone from a third-tier planet who had “suddenly” emerged, she likely lacked suitable meditation methods.

“Report: Two months ago, the student obtained a new psychic meditation technique in the war world, and has since switched to practicing that.”

The lieutenant looked seriously at Ruo Manni: “Have you received systematic psychic training before?”

“Report: No, the student has always focused on mecha manufacturing since childhood.”

The lieutenant nodded, showing no surprise, clearly aware of Ruo Manni’s situation.

“You should know that for a psychic practitioner, meditation techniques are fundamental, just as physical skills are fundamental for a martial artist,” the lieutenant said.

The two girls nodded in agreement.

“A psychic practitioner aiming to reach a higher level must first have excellent potential and second, learn meditation techniques above human level.”

The two girls nodded again.

“Ms. Olli, what is your understanding of your psychic meditation technique?” the lieutenant asked.

“It’s a family heirloom, a heavenly-level technique.”

The lieutenant nodded expressionlessly. Ruo Manni wasn’t surprised; a family like Olli’s would undoubtedly provide elite disciples like Mina-Olli with the best resources.

“And you, Ms. Ruo?”

“Report, instructor. I am a commoner and am not aware of the level of the meditation technique I practice,” Ruo Manni replied.

“The technique is very important, so we need to verify it. Ms. Ruo, you will enter the testing room to practice your meditation technique,” the lieutenant said.

Ruo Manni hesitated a bit. The lieutenant seemed to understand her concerns and smiled as she continued, “This training base is the exclusive facility of the eldest Prince’s Defense Army. I am a level six psychic instructor here. For talented psychic practitioners like you two, if you do not have a suitable meditation technique, you can exchange military merit points or credits for heavenly-level techniques. That’s why we need to test the meditation techniques you’ve learned to see if they are suitable for you.”
