Chosen Scion's System

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Rebirth

Ray opened his eyes and found out that he is back in his room, the familiar surroundings should have comforted him, but something felt off. Standing up, he walked to his desk, intending to put on his glasses.

Just as his fingers reached out toward the glasses, a searing, indescribable pain coursed through his entire body. It was far worse than anything he had endured earlier.

"ARGHHH! Fuck, fuck!" he screamed, his voice raw and hoarse as he dropped to his knees, clutching his sides.

The sound of his bones snapping and reshaping echoed in his ears, each crack and pop like a hammer blow to his sanity. His screams turned into desperate cries as the restructuring process repeated itself mercilessly. His skin burned and peeled as though it was being shredded from the inside out.

Unable to endure the relentless agony, Ray collapsed onto the cold floor, his body drenched in his own blood. His breaths were shallow and ragged as his consciousness faded once again. He couldn't hear the soft chime of notifications ringing in his mind.

On the bed, his phone vibrated repeatedly, the name "Lana" flashing on the screen. She was calling him for dinner, unaware of the hellish transformation her friend was undergoing.

---

Three hours later, Ray woke up and found himself lying on the cold, sticky floor. His head throbbed as he groaned, his body stiff and heavy. The metallic stench of blood was overwhelming, filling his nostrils and making his stomach churn. He gagged, turning his head to the side as his trembling hands tried to push him upright.

The dried blood clinging to his skin cracked painfully with every movement, pulling at the raw, tender patches where his flesh had shredded during the process. His chest and arms were covered in dark, crusted streaks of blood, flaking off in places. His hair, stiff and clumped together, tugged uncomfortably at his scalp. The sight of himself, drenched in blood and surrounded by the remains of his transformation, made his breath hitch.

Unable to withstand the stench and the suffocating stickiness any longer, Ray staggered to his feet, his legs trembling beneath him. Every step sent a sharp ache through his body as dried blood cracked and flaked off, leaving behind faint smears. He stumbled toward the bathroom, each breath shallow as he fought the nausea rising in his throat.

Reaching the sink, he gripped its edges for support, staring at his reflection in the mirror. His face was smeared with dried blood, streaked across his jaw and into his hairline. He barely recognized himself, the haunted, bloodied figure in the glass looking more like a stranger. Without hesitation, he turned on the shower, the sound of rushing water filling the room.

Stripping off his stiff, blood-soaked clothes, Ray stepped into the cold stream, shivering as the water hit his skin. Blood began to wash away in thick, dark rivulets, swirling down the drain. He scrubbed at his skin furiously, his nails scraping at the crusted layers, desperate to rid himself of the stench and the suffocating sensation of dried blood. The water gradually warmed, but no amount of heat could chase away the chill that had settled deep in his bones.

When the last remnants of blood disappeared, Ray emerged from the bathroom, his muscles sore but his mind slightly clearer. He fetched a rag and began cleaning the dried blood on the floor. As he mopped, his mind replayed the pain he endured, but something else caught his attention.

Pausing, he realized his vision was sharp and clear. He blinked several times before walking to the mirror in his room, his heart racing. His glasses lay on the desk, untouched.

As he stared at his reflection, he noticed even more changes. His irises, once dull brown, now glowed with an otherworldly light blue hue. His body, once skinny and frail, was now athletic and toned, muscles rippling subtly beneath his smoother, minor scars on his body has was nowhere to be seen. He had even grown taller by a few inches, and every imperfection on his body seemed to have vanished.

"What the hell…" he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.

His attention shifted to his bed, where his phone lay. He picked it up and unlocked the screen to see 20 missed calls from Lana. Panic gripped him as he immediately dialed her number to apologize, bringing the phone to his ear.

"Ray, what the hell?!" Lana snapped as she answered.

"I'm sorry," Ray said softly, his voice hoarse from earlier screams.

"Huh? I can't hear you," Lana replied.

"I said I'm sorry," he repeated, louder this time. "I fell asleep as soon as I got home from the hospital." He lied.

"You fell asleep? You didn't set an alarm like usual?"

"No, I…I must've forgotten," he lied again, forcing a chuckle. "I even left my phone on the desk, it wasn't close to me."

After a moment of silence, "Fine, I forgive you." Lana said, sighing over the phone.

"Thank you, I will make it up to you after I am back from my school trip," Ray said, relief washing over him.

"What about this weekend, what are you doing?" asked Lana.

"Well, I have to prepare for the trip and rearrange the house," Ray said scratching his head.

"Fine, after your trip it is," Lana said.

"Thank you once again," Ray said.

"Yeah yeah, I will talk to you later, I have to deal with something annoying," said Lana as she hangs up the phone.

Ray drops his phone and decided to go out and buy dinner.

As he walked towards a nearby mini-mart, he noticed something odd. His clothes, which once fit snugly, were now slightly tight in the shoulders and too short in the sleeves.

"Damn it," he muttered under his breath. "What kind of growth spurt is this?"

---

In a dark alley in the other side of the city stood a lady draining the blood from a victim, after finish draining him she dropped his body which has turned white due to lack of blood, she smiled while licking her lips which shows two fangs in mouth.

The lady looks around before disappearing from the alley like she was never there and appeared on the rooftop of a building beside another lady.

"Where is the guy you were going to bring?" asked the lady.

"He couldn't come," replied the second lady.

"This is the third time you failed to bring I a newborn to the family, you know the family head gave you six months and it will be over in 3 weeks time," said the first lady.

"I know, you don't have to remind me about it, I have to find the right person and not just anyone and clean your mouth it is full of blood," said the second lady in anger.

"I couldn't help it, the men are just all over so I had no choice but to pick one of them," said the first lady with a huge grin on her face.

"Can't you do without going out for a week, we have enough blood bank at home to last us for a month," said the second lady in disgust.

"Does ones can't beat drinking it from the source beside it won't be as fresh as the source," said the first lady licking her bloodstained finger.

"Disgusting," said the second lady with disgust written all over her face.

"Say all you want, I am leaving you to go and have another drink, see you at home Lana," said the first lady as she jumped down from the roof.

Lana looked at her phone and sighed before jumping down the roof as well.

Meanwhile inside the Mini Mart, Ray was about to pay for some snacks and drinks he bought not knowing that he escaped death the second time in a day.

"Here is your change and also my number if you ever need anything again just call me and I will deliver it your place," said the female cashier boldly while blinking at Ray seductively.

"Thank you for the offer," said Ray as he picks his change, the paper with the phone number and left the mini mart, embarrassed.

He looked down at his stuffy clothes and made a mental note to drop by the clothing store tomorrow.

Arriving home, Ray brought out the snacks he bought and pour himself a drink. After he finished eating, he went inside the bedroom to rest as his body was still aching from earlier.

As he lay on his bed and was about to close his eyes, he heard a voice in his head.

Ray's eyes widened, his breath hitching. "Oh my god," he whispered.

"System," he called out hesitantly.

[Yes, host,] the voice replied.

"Oh my god it is really a system!" Ray shouted at the top of his voice, unable to hide his excitement.

He calmed himself by inhaling and exhaling, and sat upright. "Can you show me my status window?" He asked.

Despite his curiosity, exhaustion weighed heavily on him. Deciding it was best to recover his strength before delving deeper into the mysteries of the system, Ray took a deep breath, closed the status window, and collapsed onto his bed.

"I'll figure it all out tomorrow," he murmured to himself, his eyes closing as sleep overtook him.
