Confined Love

Chapter 17: Chapter 17

Zahra.

My mind immediately flashed back to that day at the cave. I hadn't had time to think about the mystery of the cave door opening after I had been injured, but now the thought filled my head.

What exactly had happened that day?

And what was this secret venom everybody was trying to get their hands on?

Too lost in thought, I didn't realize that my husband's conversation with his caller had ended until it was too late. The door suddenly flew open, revealing my intrigued looking husband.

"Eavesdropping Kotenok?" He drawled.

I let out a horrified gasp and turned to flee down the hallway, but Dimitri's hand lashed out and grabbed me by my wrist, locking me in place before him. My body pressed tight against his warm, hard one.

"First you eavesdrop, and then you don't even have the guts to admit to it," his voice was as soft as silk, but I wasn't fooled for one second. I could read the wrath in his eyes clear as day.

Why had I thought snooping on him was a good idea anyway? I was beginning to think I had a death wish or something. And i would blame my husband when he eventually put a bullet in my head and called it a day.

"Who s-ays I d-don't?" I stammered.

"So you admit that you were?" He asked calmly.

I swallowed, trying to dislodge the boulder that had suddenly made it's way to my throat. How was I going to get out of this situation I had found myself in? My mind raced with thought after thought, all of which I discarded.

Why don't you tell him about what you know about the secret venom? A small voice asked inside of me.

But what if he thought I was lying, or worse. What if once he got control of the venom, he wouldn't need to go ahead with this facade of a marriage and he would toss me back into jail or even get rid of me once and for all.

I swallowed back the words immediately, "I was looking for you. I wasn't trying to eavesdrop."

His green eyes narrowed, "is that so?"

I nodded.

"I don't believe you," he pulled me tighter into his body, his heady scent filling my nose and making my body feel like it was burning, "And you know how I feel about you lying to me."

"I wasn't eavesdropping" I repeated. My mind was still stuck on the name I had heard Dimitri mention.

Dominic Vazklov.

The name didn't sound familiar at all, and yet he had mentioned that only this man's daughter's blood could get him the venom. The cave doors opening had to have been a coincidence then. But still something wasn't adding up.

"Let me go, I'm not lying okay?" I said exasperatedly.

"Is there somewhere you're in a hurry to be. Didn't you say you were searching for me? Now you've found me, what next?"

I cleared my throat, "We were supposed to be playing perfect couple and you suddenly walked off. I realized I couldn't play your game without your expertise."

He chuckled humorlessly, "You're a terrible liar."

"W-what?" I spluttered, mildly offended, "Let me go!"

To my surprise, Dimitri released me from his grasp. I immediately took a cautious step away from him. Unfortunately for me, I accidentally stepped on the train of my dress and stumbled.

I was able to catch myself before I could tumble to the ground though, but the sound of my dress ripping made me freeze. I glanced down and stared in horror at where my pointy heels had ripped through the end of the dress.

My head shot up and landed on my husband's face. He didn't show any outward signs of displeasure, there was only the slightest curve of his mouth.

"That's a twelve thousand dollar dress." He drawled.

I squeezed my eyes shut in horror. That had been my biggest fear, "I-I will pay you back for the dress. Or I can sew it. I'm good at sewing and I can_"

"You've just ripped a twelve thousand dollar dress and you want to stitch it?" He asked, eyes cold as ice, "You're going to pay back every cent for that dress."

"But I don't have any money." I gasped, "where do you expect me to get that kind of money from?" Twelve thousand dollars sounded like a billion dollars to me at that moment. I had lived around wealth all my life, but I had never had any money.

Twelve thousand was more zeroes than I had counted in my life.

"You're not going to pay back with money," his eyes flashed with amusement, "I know that you don't money."

I didn't understand what he was talking about. He had to know that I didn't have any property I could leverage for the dress.

"You're going to pay back with something else," Dimitri continued.

"What?" I asked carefully.

A second after the question had left my mouth, the realization of the method of payment he required hit me, and just then, his reply floated in between us, souring my stomach.

"Your body."

Before I knew what I was doing, I'd raised my hand into the air and it swung down in an arc toward my husband's face, fury driving the action.

His hand caught mine mid air and the look in his eyes became murderous, "You little fool."

My stomach cramped and my heart began to pound in my chest, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to_"

"The problem is that I've been too soft with you," he bit out, "How dare you think you can raise your hands to me? We're leaving right now, and I'm going to teach you a lesson on obedience. A lesson that is long since overdue."

Dimitri entwined our fingers like a happy couple, but only I could feel the way his hand was crushing mine as he led me out of the event building.

"Please," I begged the green eyed man as he led me like a lamb to the slaughter.

"It's too late to beg, Kotenok."
