Chapter 8: CHAPTER 8- I NEED A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW
"Your father wants you to get married," Max replied, his expression serious.
Kyle's gaze darkened as he processed Max's words. His father wanting him to get married was not a new development, but it was still a topic Kyle had no desire to discuss. He remained calm, however, his expression neutral as he asked, "And what should I do about it?"
Max's response was straightforward. "Find a girl and get married," he said, his tone matter-of-fact.
Kyle scoffed, a look of disdain crossing his face. He was about to respond when his phone rang, shrill and insistent. Kyle sighed, his eyes rolling in frustration as he glanced at the screen. His expression turned even darker as he saw the name of the person calling.
As they exited the elevator, Kyle and Max strode swiftly through the parking garage, their footsteps echoing off the concrete walls. They reached the car, a sleek black vehicle that gleamed in the fluorescent lighting. Kyle unlocked the door and slid into the driver's seat, while Max settled into the passenger seat. With a roar of the engine, Kyle sped out of the garage, weaving through the traffic with a skill that belied his frustration.
Within minutes, they arrived at the mansion, a grandiose structure that loomed before them. Kyle brought the car to a stop, and they both jumped out, rushing towards the living room where Jack and Moana were seated.
As they entered, Jack's deep, husky voice boomed out, "Sit down." Kyle and Max complied, taking seats in front of Jack and Moana. The atmosphere was tense, with an undercurrent of expectation that hung in the air like a challenge.
Clearing his throat, Jack began, "I need a daughter-in-law." Moana chimed in, her voice soft and soothing, "I know this sounds too sudden, but we are doing it for your own good." Jack added, his expression stern, "I'll be going on a business trip, and your mum will be bored if there's no one to stay with her."
Kyle raised an eyebrow, his skepticism evident. "Why don't you take her with you?" he asked, his tone neutral. Jack's response was firm, his voice brooking no argument. "It's a meeting for men, and I don't want anyone to get close to her." Moana flushed at the comment, and Kyle pressed the space between his brows, his frustration evident.
The silence that followed was oppressive, the tension between them palpable. Jack's voice cut through the silence, his words dropping like a bombshell. "One month." Kyle's eyes snapped to his father's face, his expression incredulous. "For what?" he asked, his tone wary.
Jack's response was merciless, his voice devoid of emotion. "Find a girlfriend or I'll take the business from you and find a wife for you." With that, he stood up and left, leaving Kyle seething with anger. Max, on the other hand, chuckled, clearly amused by the situation.
As Jack exited, Max turned to Kyle and said, "I can help you if you are ready." Kyle glared at him, his anger and frustration still simmering.
Meanwhile, Karina stared at her phone, her gaze darkening as she read the message. "YOUR TIME IS UP." The words seemed to burn into her retina, and she felt a wave of guilt wash over her. She had been dreading this moment, knowing that she had to make a choice. She felt like a traitor for breaking her friend's trust, and the weight of her decision threatened to crush her. Her mind was a jumble of emotions, her thoughts racing with the consequences of her actions. She felt trapped, with no way out, and the message seemed to mock her, its words echoing in her mind like a cruel taunt.
After much staring, Lily came "hey" breaking her thoughts smiling. For some reason her smile made Karina feel loved as she thought of the happy moments they've spent together. Memories of laughter, adventures, and quiet moments they shared flooded her mind. She remembered the way Lily's eyes sparkled when she smiled, the way her hair fell in soft waves down her back, and the way her voice sounded like music to her ears.
"Are you okay" Lily asked breaking her thoughts again
"Huh... Yeah I'm good. Your lunch is in the kitchen" Karina said
With a smile Lily said "thank you" and left.
Karina took out her phone immediately typing something "LETS MEET" she smirked
Meanwhile, in the Lee's mansion, Susan entered her room and got pinned to the door.
"Damian. What are you doing?" She asked
But Damian's response was not what she expected. "I need you" he replied lust in his eyes.
....
"Women are gold diggers" Kyle said to Max
"Not all of them. Don't dwell in the past Kyle. Why don't you give your heart a chance" Max said
Kyle's thoughts drifted back to his past experiences with women. He remembered the pain, the heartache, and the betrayal. But Max's words struck a chord within him. Maybe it was time to let go of the past and give love another chance.
With a sigh Kyle asked "and if she's the same?"
"Well I won't stop you from doing what you want to do" Max replied
"Okay. Who are you setting me up with?" Kyle asked
"It's a secret" Max smiled
It's past midnight and the streets are dark and empty leaving only the light of the moon to shine as Karina walked wearing a black hoodie and black jeans. She stopped in an alley as she spotted a figure.
"You're finally here" the voice said
Karina's eyes narrowed as she tried to make out the figure's features.
