Chapter 31: Jeanne Alter’s Ingenious Plan, The Ultimate Parent-Child Match
At the top of Orléans Castle.
Jeanne Alter, encased in black, form-fitting armor and a flowing cape, stood on the watchtower, overlooking the city below with cold disdain.
Beside her stood a flagpole, its banner bearing the emblem of a black dragon, symbolizing her role as the Dragon Witch.
In the distance, the city was engulfed in smoke and destruction. Broken walls and ruins were all that remained.
The black monsters and wyverns summoned by the Holy Grail continued their rampage, laying waste to the city without restraint.
"Humans who cannot prove the love of God have no reason to exist," Jeanne Alter declared.
"Good or evil, humanity is equal in one thing—its worthlessness."
"Perish, this nation that betrayed me."
Her expression twisted with a hint of madness, she gave merciless orders to her soldiers to continue ravaging everything in their path.
"Ah, this is the true saint of salvation—the saint who follows God and forgives the sinners of this world!!!"
Beside her stood a man with dark blue-gray skin, dressed as a magician, his eyes alight with fanatical devotion.
It was Caster Gilles, the infamous Marshal of France during the Hundred Years' War and an ardent admirer of Jeanne d'Arc.
It was he who had made the wish upon the Holy Grail, bringing Jeanne Alter into existence in this new form to destroy the nation that had betrayed her.
"Gilles, do we have any intelligence on the British King of Knights and those strange mechanical constructs that have appeared in France?" Jeanne Alter asked.
She was well aware that Setsuna was piloting a Gundam and heading toward Orléans, but she hadn't acted recklessly.
After all, he had effortlessly defeated Fafnir and the Lancer of Impalement, Vlad III. She needed to be cautious.
"According to the reports from our sentries, their team consists of two Masters, two Servants, and four individuals who appear to be magi," Gilles replied.
"The Servants include the British King of Knights, as many have witnessed the holy sword in her hands."
"As for the four magi, they seem to possess powerful projectile-based magecraft and can summon familiars for long-range attacks."
Using his knowledge of magecraft, Gilles had categorized the carrier-based aircraft as familiars and the naval bombardments as a form of advanced firepower projection magecraft.
"I see…"
Jeanne Alter pondered for a moment.
"The magi will be easy to deal with—they're nothing more than mortal flesh. But the King of Knights is troublesome. No wonder the Servants we sent failed to defeat them."
"In that case, we must summon Servants who can match her strength."
Out of habit, her thoughts naturally gravitated toward the opposing Servants as the source of the problem.
It had to be Arthur who was too strong.
"Are you suggesting…?"
Gilles was slightly taken aback.
"We'll summon more of the Knights of the Round Table."
The two quickly made their way to the grand hall of the castle.
On a pedestal sat the Holy Grail, overflowing with a golden glow of pure mana.
As a Servant resurrected by the Grail, Jeanne Alter didn't need relics to summon other Servants. She was already connected to the Greater Grail itself.
All that mattered was whether the summoned Heroic Spirits would answer her call.
Shu—
Planting her flagpole firmly into the ground, she drew a complex summoning circle.
With one hand placed upon the Holy Grail, she began chanting the incantation in a cold, commanding voice:
"Let your body rest under my command, let your fate be bound to my blade…"
"Answer the call of the Holy Grail. Obey this will and respond to me!"
"..."
"Guardian of the Scales!!!"
Boom—
A surge of mana rippled through the entire hall, like a tidal wave crashing against its walls.
This time, Jeanne Alter was not willing to summon just any random Servants. She wanted someone strong, a powerful Saber, capable of matching the King of Knights.
Once enhanced with the Berserk attribute, they'd surely overpower the opposition.
Shu—
As the smoke cleared, a figure stepped forward from the summoning circle.
The newly summoned Servant wore crimson and white armor, complete with a fully enclosed helmet. Long horns extended from either side of the helm, giving her an intimidating, berserker-like appearance.
She held a massive sword, its blade white and its hilt a striking crimson.
"And you are…?"
Jeanne Alter frowned, realizing she couldn't discern this Servant's true name. It was as if the helmet obscured her identity, blocking all attempts to glean her origins.
The only things she could confirm were that the Servant belonged to the Saber class and possessed exceptional combat power.
—
At Orléans Castle.
A knight clad in armor spoke in a muffled, yet authoritative voice.
"You're going after King Arthur?"
"Leave it to me… I personally ended her knights."
The Next Day.
"Jeanne Alter! Get out here and take your beating!!"
A group of nine arrived at the gates of Orléans.
White Jeanne, already quite familiar with this world, had quickly aligned herself with Setsuna.
Given that they shared a common enemy, the two decided to work together to bring down the Dragon Witch.
The city was now nothing more than a wasteland. Within a hundred kilometers, not a single living soul could be found.
Except for the castle in the city center—Jeanne Alter's lair—everything else had been reduced to rubble and ashes.
It was clear that Jeanne Alter's thirst for vengeance burned fiercely.
"I can sense her nearby," White Jeanne murmured as she walked beside Setsuna.
As a Ruler, she possessed the authority to detect Servants within a certain range and discern their true names.
The moment they realized they were about to face a boss fight, the ship girls began equipping their riggings and warming up.
Several reconnaissance planes circled in the air, searching for enemy activity.
"Tch, troublesome—"
Roar—
A dragon's roar resounded in the skies above the castle.
Jeanne Alter, dressed in black armor, her silver hair glinting and golden eyes glowing, descended slowly on a wyvern.
Beside her stood Gilles, along with several of her remaining Servants: the Phantom of the Opera, Lancelot, and Charles-Henri Sanson.
Setsuna recognized most of them. They were cannon fodder—minor Servants Jeanne Alter had summoned in her first batch. They posed no significant threat.
The two sides squared off, separated by only a few dozen meters.
The atmosphere crackled with tension, and a full-blown team battle was on the verge of erupting.
"?"
"Wait… You… Are you Mordred?"
Setsuna's expression turned strange as he noticed one of the armored Servants on the other side.
"?"
"You know me?"
The knight, surprised, removed their helmet.
Beneath the helm was a strikingly handsome face framed by golden hair tied in a ponytail and piercing blue eyes.
"I am Mordred, the one and only rightful heir to King Arthur Pendragon!"
"?"
Artoria froze, utterly dumbfounded.
What the hell? This was a first.
It was bad enough that she'd been mysteriously summoned to this Singularity—now Mordred was here too?!
"Well, well, a parent-child duel. How about the two of you settle this one-on-one? Whoever loses calls the other 'Daddy,'" Setsuna said, slapping Artoria on the shoulder.
"Parent-child? Aren't they both women? Why isn't it a mother-daughter duel?"
The ship girls looked confused.
"That's not it either! The King of Knights and Mordred are about the same age and look alike. They could easily pass as sisters. Why are you calling it a father-son match, Commander?"
Formidable and Taihou scrutinized Artoria and Mordred, completely puzzled.
"It's just how the Nasuverse works. Don't overthink it," Setsuna said, massaging his temples.
As expected, his arrival in this world had completely derailed the original plot.
Even Mordred had been summoned by Jeanne Alter now.
"..."
Artoria stared at the "child" who had once rebelled against her.
She opened her mouth, as if to say something, but then stopped herself.
Mordred, however, showed no hesitation. The moment she saw her "father," her eyes burned with fury.
She raised her brilliant holy sword high.
"Whoever loses calls the other 'Daddy'? Ridiculous! There's no way I'll lose!"
"I was born for one purpose: to kill King Arthur and become a king greater than she ever was!!"
Shu—
The massive sword in her hands erupted in a dazzling red light.
"Noble Phantasm: Clarent Blood Arthur—Rebellion Against My Beautiful Father!!!"
Boom—
The blade unleashed a crimson energy blast, shooting straight toward the group.
"What the hell?! A Father-Slaying Noble Phantasm?! That's so unfair!"
"I'm not even your dad! Why are you aiming at me?!"
Setsuna immediately projected Strike Freedom and leaped back with the ship girls, dodging the blast.
He raised his hand, activating a Command Spell. Channeling his will as a Master, he issued an order:
"Artoria! Use your Excalibur on her!!"
