Crossover Shipgirls: Building a Dimensional Empire from Scratch

Chapter 48: Dragons Must Coil, Tigers Must Lie Low

Swish—

The Eternal Snowfall emerged from the long temporal corridor, arriving in another unfamiliar world.

[Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid]

It was early evening.

Gazing at the towering skyscrapers below and the endless stream of cars in the city, Setsuna momentarily felt as if he had returned to human society.

In contrast to previous worlds, where humanity was either extinct, displaced to ocean planets, stuck in the steam age, or burned away by the Singularities of Chaldea, this place represented a proper human civilization.

Everything was nearly identical to Earth from his past life.

Yet, he no longer yearned for modern society. Spending time with shipgirls was infinitely more enjoyable than being a corporate drone.

On the bridge, aside from Jeanne Alter, Jeanne d'Arc, and Artoria Pendragon, a few other Heroic Spirits, two shipgirls had also joined him on this mission.

One was Belfast, the Royal Maid Commander.

The other was a tall, golden-haired aircraft carrier.

"Avenger-class Aircraft Carrier, Flagship—Implacable," she introduced herself.

"Pleased to meet you, Commander. I'm delighted to accompany you."

"You…"

Jeanne Alter immediately recognized her as the shipgirl who had jokingly suggested she become a plush toy earlier.

Although she wasn't wearing her flamboyant and revealing nun outfit for this outing, she still didn't appear entirely proper.

Her curvaceous figure was even more stunning than Taihou's, and her expression carried a seductive charm.

"I'm a nun, dear Heroic Spirit. If you have the time, feel free to confess your sins to me," Implacable said with a smile.

"Of course, Commander, I can offer you a… special confession method, just for you~"

Implacable's tone was nonchalant yet brimming with implication.

"I have nothing to confess. I can't hear the voice of God. God has betrayed me," Jeanne Alter replied coldly, clearly unimpressed.

"Hmm?"

Jeanne d'Arc curiously looked up.

"A nun? Do you also worship the Lord?"

"Would you like to join me in prayer?"

As the Holy Maiden of France, Jeanne d'Arc always offered sincere prayers to God before any battle.

At that moment, she was kneeling, one hand holding her Fleur-de-Lis banner and the other clutching a Bible, reciting a prayer.

"Heh…"

Implacable glanced at her.

"Did you know? Prayer isn't the only thing a nun might kneel for."

"???"

Jeanne d'Arc looked utterly baffled.

"What are you talking about?"

"Don't assume I serve the Lord just because I'm a nun… Just like kneeling isn't always for prayer, and opening your mouth isn't always for scripture."

"Right, Commander?" Implacable's amber eyes sparkled mischievously, her tongue slowly gliding over her enticing lips as she gave Setsuna a flirtatious look.

"???"

"You're a succubus, aren't you?!" Setsuna was stunned by this shipgirl, who seemed to bring innuendos into every third sentence.

He couldn't fathom why the Royal Navy had sent such a provocative and captivating figure to accompany him.

From experience, though, people like her tended to be all talk—a master of theory but with weak defenses.

"Ahem—"

Setsuna cleared his throat, refocusing everyone on the task at hand.

"Scan the area. Check for any unusual life forms."

Traveling to a new world meant the first priority was to determine the current timeline.

For instance, was Tohru still in her own world, already living with Kobayashi, or somewhere else entirely?

This would dictate their next steps.

Buzz—

Several aircraft launched from the ship's side as Bulin activated the Eternal Snowfall's radar.

Though the ship hovered just a few thousand meters above the city, the optical camouflage ensured the people below remained unaware of its presence.

"Hmm… Judging by the latitude and longitude, we're near Tokyo…"

"There's nothing unusual detected. Within a ten-kilometer radius, it's just ordinary humans," Implacable reported, her eyes closed as she processed the reconnaissance data from the aircraft.

Suddenly, the radar interface displayed a massive red dot.

"Up ahead! In the suburbs! A giant unidentified creature detected!"

"It's a dragon!!!"

Bulin projected the magnified image onto the main console.

"Hah? Looks like I arrived just in time?!"

...

The Eternal Snowfall skimmed low across the city, heading toward the outskirts.

The starship stirred up powerful gusts in the forest below. Confused citizens, out for an evening stroll, glanced upward, unsure of the wind's source.

Soon, Setsuna spotted the target through the ship's viewport.

On a mountainside clearing in the suburban area beyond the city stood a massive dragon, covered in vibrant green scales.

Its form resembled Fafnir from the singularity—a classic dragon straight out of a fantasy tale.

A giant longsword was embedded in its body, tearing a horrific wound.

The dragon looked to be on the verge of death, weakly lifting its head to peer at the ship hovering above.

Its golden eyes held a glimmer of confusion.

The dragon could see through the ship's camouflage but seemed unable to comprehend what it was.

"Tch, this dragon's exactly what I expected," Jeanne Alter muttered, gripping her dragon banner eagerly.

"Stand down for now. She's a maid dragon, not something for you to ride," Setsuna interrupted, stopping Jeanne Alter and bringing the ship to a halt.

He decisively jumped down from the ship, taking the lead.

Luck was on his side. A little later, and Kobayashi might have already picked up Tohru.

In that case, he'd probably have to pack up the whole group and bring them all back.

...

"Yo, Tohru!" Setsuna called, standing before the dragon.

In front of the massive creature, he appeared almost insignificant.

"A human?"

"Are you… here as another hero to slay me?"

"Get lost!!!"

Tohru turned her head, sizing up the six individuals.

Setsuna and the shipgirls wore uniforms, but the three Heroic Spirits in armor resembled the humans from her world.

Anger flared in her eyes, and she unleashed a fiery breath.

Boom—

A wave of scorching dragon fire surged forward.

"Luminosite Eternelle!!" (God is Here With Me!!!)

Jeanne d'Arc swiftly deployed her Noble Phantasm, planting the Fleur-de-Lis banner into the ground. A radiant white barrier shielded the group.

Despite Tohru's injuries, the surrounding area within a kilometer radius was scorched black from her attack, with many trees reduced to charred remains.

Even in her weakened state, Tohru's strength was undeniable.

After all, she was a dragon capable of ending worlds.

"Master, she doesn't seem too friendly…" Artoria said, drawing her holy sword and taking up a combat stance.

"Don't rush," Setsuna said, calming the startled dragon. He gestured toward the massive sword embedded in her body.

"We mean no harm."

"I'm here to help you. Should I just remove that sword?"

"?"

Tohru scrutinized him.

He appeared no different from an ordinary human of this world, lacking the imposing aura of the Heroic Spirits.

"Impossible."

"A frail human touching a divine sword? Your mind would shatter—"

Before she could finish, a sharp click echoed.

Setsuna projected part of the Strike Freedom Gundam's body. The towering mecha extended its right arm and firmly gripped the sword's hilt.

With a powerful tug, swish—

The massive sword was extracted and instantly disintegrated into particles, vanishing from this world.

Freed from the interference of divine power, Tohru's wounds began to heal rapidly.

"Ehh?! What is this?!" Tohru stared at the Gundam in front of her, utterly dumbfounded.

"I pulled the sword; I touched it."

"This is a mech. Advanced, right?"

...

A Few Minutes Later

"I'm sorry!!"

The massive dragon transformed into a petite girl with golden hair, red eyes, and a dark cloak draped over her shoulders. Barefoot, she stood before them.

With dragon horns on her head and a large tail dragging behind her, she performed a deep dogeza in front of Setsuna.

"I was defeated in a battle with a god and fled to this world."

"I deeply apologize for recklessly attacking you earlier!!!"

Tohru, surprisingly polite, addressed the rest of the group with great respect.

"It's fine," Setsuna replied nonchalantly, extending an invitation.

"If you have nowhere to go in this world, why not come with me?"

"My home is pretty spacious, and I can teach you how to 'serve properly'—cough, I mean, there's a Royal Maid Team where I live. I think you'll get along."

"Huh?"

Tohru tilted her head, staring at Setsuna.

She felt like this man understood her situation far too well.

Escaping from another world after being pursued, she indeed had no place to go.

If nothing else, she'd end up living in the wilderness. Taking a gamble on this offer seemed better.

"In my original world, I'm part of the Chaos Faction. It's likely other dragons will come after me…" Tohru warned him kindly.

"They're as strong as me, with the power to destroy worlds."

"No problem."

Setsuna patted the dragon girl's shoulder reassuringly.

"We have superweapons. Let them come. The more, the merrier."

"Even your father, the Emperor of Demise, will have to kneel."
