Chapter 8: Chapter 7: Reflection in the waters
(The druid tribes)
Becca sat on the floor, watching Axel through the water sphere created by Atlas. She felt proud to see Axel and Arthur win but felt off when a dark thought entered her mind.
Regardless of who she picked to deal with Neverport, Axel would have killed the others without a care. She asked herself, did I make the right choice?
She looked at it logical and the druids were the best choice, but...why was she taken it to hurt. Was it because they could have had families trying to survive or was it that she judged a book by its cover.
One final question pop in her mind...do I fear him, or do I depend on him?
"Human girl, let me ask you a question?" Called Atlas.
"Yes, what is it?" She asked him.
Atlas changed the images on the water sphere to display a live view of Neverport, "The Son of God Joseph has clarified that humanity needs to be cleansed of its crimes. You could argue that other races have done worse, but why is humanity specifically being targeted? What are your thoughts on that?"
Becca stared intently at the sphere and watched everyone cleaning up their homes.
Some of the men went mining while others built houses. Some of the women were collecting water from the coast, while the others looked after their children.
She pressed her hand against the sphere and said, "It's because we are terrible. We don't see people as equals. We commit crimes against everyone, and we kill far too many innocent individuals. I am part of the problem because I have done awful things to others. Maybe he got tired of watching us and now believes that we are beyond saving. But that's completely wrong...not every great creation has a clean slate." She then noticed Emily sating with her friends and just having fun, "It's how we live our life which is important."
Atlas then switches the projection to Axel covered in blood while killing Orcs left and right. He seemed both focused and excited, "Do you think Joseph is doing the world a favor by getting rid of problematic people like him?" Asked Atlas as he got closer to her.
Becca paused for a moment, reflecting on her brief interaction with him, "It's too early for me to judge." she said, her gaze fixed intently on Atlas's eyes, "But if I believe he deserves punishment for his crimes, then I must acknowledge that I deserve the same treatment for my actions."
"Are you not afraid that you will die?" He asked as he body slowly transform into a giant green serpent.
She stumbled back a bit before clutching the sword, breathed out, and said, "Yes, I'm scared of death... but I'm more afraid of seeing the people around me die more."
Atlas listened to her heartbeat, and it was fast. She was terrified, as he expected, "I can't wait to see, the day you fail at this pointless rebellion." he said as he burst out laughing.
When Becca looked at the sphere of water. Axel completed their request looking like a bloody mess as Arthur stood next to him. Both seem to have enjoyed themselves.
