"If he really does fall into cyberpsychosis," she continued, "I don't see how anyone could stop him. Not us, not even MAX-TAC."

Her words struck a nerve, and the tension among the group spiked. Rebecca and Pilar exchanged uneasy glances as Maine and Dorio joined them, their weapons still hot from clearing out the remaining Maelstrom gangers.

Kiwi wasted no time sharing her grim theory with the rest of the team. The moment the possibility of Ethan succumbing to cyberpsychosis was voiced, a heavy silence fell over the group.

"No way!" Rebecca shot back, her confidence unwavering. "Ethan isn't gonna go nuts. He's too strong for that!"

Lucy, usually composed, was visibly shaken. "He's not like that," she insisted, but her voice wavered. Despite her words, the logic behind Kiwi's theory gnawed at her. With Ethan's level of cybernetic enhancements, the risk couldn't be ignored.

"Yeah! Ethan wouldn't snap like some chromehead psycho!" Rebecca added, her conviction clear.

Just as the tension reached its peak, Ethan moved.

From the outer side of his forearms, two sleek alloy blades extended, catching the light as they gleamed with a lethal edge.

The team froze, their breath hitching as they watched him.

But Ethan's movements were calm, controlled, devoid of the erratic behavior that marked cyberpsychosis. His expression remained neutral, his golden eyes sharp and focused.

Ethan, of course, wasn't succumbing to cyberpsychosis. The concept didn't even exist in his world—his character, the Demon Cyborg Genos, hailed from an entirely different universe. Instead, Ethan had been standing still because he was adapting to the system's newest reward.

Ethan flexed his arms, inspecting the alloy blades with interest before retracting them back into his cybernetic frame. A faint smile crossed his lips as he muttered to himself, "These could come in handy. I'll need to test them out soon."

He turned to face the group, who were still on edge.

"Looks like Maelstrom trashed the van," Ethan said, his voice casual. "How about we take the metro back?"

The team stared at him, their tension gradually dissipating as they realized he was perfectly fine.

Maine let out a loud sigh, shaking his head. "Damn, man. Don't scare us like that."

Lucy took a deep breath, the anxiety she'd been holding onto evaporating in an instant. She gave Ethan a faint smile, her usual stoicism returning.

"Looks like you were wrong this time, Kiwi," Rebecca teased, her grin cocky as ever.

Rebecca burst into laughter, her carefree attitude filling the van as she teased Kiwi. "See? I told you he wasn't a cyberpsycho! You're getting rusty, Kiwi!"

Kiwi, unfazed, lit a slim cigarette and ignored Rebecca's antics. Taking a slow drag, she exhaled a thin stream of smoke and muttered, "I'd rather be wrong. If Ethan did go off the rails, none of us would've made it out alive."

Her voice was low but carried a weight that silenced any retorts. The team shared a rare moment of mutual understanding—Ethan was a force to be reckoned with, one they were lucky to have on their side.

Soon after, Maine called for a Nomad-style armored van to pick them up. Once the vehicle arrived, the group piled in, exhausted but relieved.

"Don't underestimate me, Ethan!" Maine said with a proud grin as he maneuvered the van onto the road. "This baby? I've got a fleet of them stashed away."

His jovial tone turned cautious as he glanced at Ethan in the rearview mirror. "Uh, hey, about what you said earlier… you still good to join my crew? You know, when you're free?"

Maine's hopeful tone wasn't lost on Ethan. Maine clearly understood the value Ethan could bring, and having someone of his caliber in the team would be a game-changer—enough to make even storming Arasaka Tower a feasible mission in his eyes.

Ethan leaned back in his seat, his tone calm. "Yeah, it still stands. But I've got a tight schedule. Call me when you've got something big."

Hearing his agreement, Maine couldn't hide the grin spreading across his face. His excitement was palpable, though he played it off with a casual nod. "You got it, man. We'll keep you in the loop for the good stuff."

As the van cruised onto the elevated highway, the mellow tunes of a blues station filled the cabin. The soothing music created a sense of calm, and the team began to relax. Even Rebecca, usually brimming with unrelenting energy, yawned and slouched against the seat, her eyelids growing heavy.

Ethan gazed out the window, taking in the sights of Night City. While the city's neon-drenched beauty came alive at night, its daytime landscape held a gritty, grounded charm that felt almost… real.

The tranquility didn't last long. Traffic on the highway began to slow, the bustling morning rush hour causing cars to crawl at a snail's pace. The van inched forward, caught in the congestion.

Feeling the monotony of the situation, Ethan leaned back and closed his eyes, allowing himself a moment of rest.

When the vehicle picked up speed again, Ethan stirred and opened his eyes, instinctively glancing around. As he turned to look out the right window, his gaze caught on two familiar figures walking along the sidewalk.

His breath hitched for a moment. There they were—David Martinez and his mother, Gloria.
