Chapter 17: Deeper exploration
Dungeon, 3rd Floor.
Seeing the Kabold coming towards him, Kelvin swung the sword in his hand, slashing the kabold's neck just like that.
It had been several hours since his encounter with Sylpha in Twilight Manor. And now, Kelvin decided to go into the dungeon, with Sylpha accompanying him as a Support.
The task of a Support was quite simple, they would be in the back row and collect the fallen magic stones.
Although this role looked easy, it was not as easy as one might think. Not only collecting magic stones, but a Support will also carry luggage from the Party. In addition, they will also support the vanguard from behind, by chanting healing or support spells.
The task of a Support was actually quite simple to Kelvin.
Don't die.
Although it sounds trivial, it's not as easy as others think. A Support couldn't always fight, and most of them were low-level adventurers, which meant they had almost no experience fighting such monsters.
That's why a Support was often underestimated, because their role was fairly light and they weren't at the forefront of fighting monsters.
"Good job, Kelvin-sama! Looks like your strength has increased again since last time."
Seeing Kelvin kill the last Kabold that attacked them, Sylpha quickly approached him and praised him.
Behind her back, Sylpha carried a large bag that would later be used to collect all the magic stones obtained. In addition, she also carried an additional bag that she carried in both hands. This bag actually only contained dry food that they would eat while in the dungeon.
Since they didn't know how long they would be gone, the two decided to bring dry food which was more durable than wet food.
Dried meat, potatoes and dried bread were some of the food they brought.
It wasn't much, and only enough for them to eat for the next three days. Although they did not intend to sleep in the dungeon, they could not predict the future. So, they estimated the worst case scenario and decided to bring enough food for the next three days.
"Although, the upper floor doesn't bring any trouble to me at the moment."
"Do you want to go to the deeper floors?" Sylpha asked.
"Hmm, I'm not sure. For now let's go to the 14th floor and then return to the surface. Once I get my weapon, we can go deeper."
"Yes!"
*Crack!
At the same time, cracking sounds rang in their ears. Looking at the source of the sound, they found that the dungeon wall had cracks, then several goblins emerged from the cracks in the dungeon wall.
However, different from the common goblins, these goblins had a dark red color with pitch black eyes. In addition, these goblins were taller with their bodies looking stronger than normal goblins.
"Variant?! How is that possible?!"
Sylpha was surprised when she saw these goblins.
A variant figure, or an enhanced monster species, was the same type of monster as a normal monster, except that variants tended to be stronger with some features different from normal monsters.
Take these goblins for example. If they were normal goblins, they would only be dark green in color with relatively short bodies. But, the three goblins that appeared in front of them were dark red in color with sinister faces.
In their hands, each held a weapon; a wooden staff, a broken sword, and an axe.
"Kelvin-sama?!"
Seeing the three goblins, Sylpha quickly stood in front of Kelvin to protect him. Only, a hand on her shoulder made her flinch.
Kelvin smiled as he walked in front of Sylpha.
"For now, let me handle it. Your job is just to watch and be my support."
His voice was filled with conviction, and Sylpha finally came to her senses.
'Ah, that's right..., how could I forget ....'
This figure in front of her was the same figure who had wiped out hundreds of monsters when she was a child. To face three goblins alone, naturally she would not have much difficulty.
Boomm!
In the next second, Kelvin shot out as he ran up to one of the goblins in front of him.
Growhhh
Seeing Kelvin's arrival, the three goblins exclaimed and looked at him menacingly.
If it was another level 1 adventurer, they would definitely be scared by this goblin's roar. But, the one facing them was Kelvin.
Instead of being afraid, Kelvin grinned, as he landed in the middle of them, and swung his leg and kicked one of the goblins away.
*Baaammm!
"You guys sound really disgusting~"
In the next second, Kelvin swung his sword, which instantly sliced through the goblin's body from the right shoulder and descended diagonally towards its lower left abdomen.
"Hehe, you guys are too slow!"
Kelvin threw his sword straight at the first goblin he kicked away, and it hit the goblin's head, piercing its skull and killing it instantly.
"Only one left!"
Accelerating, Kelvin dodged the last goblin's slash, clenching his fist as he punched the goblin in the face.
*Bammm!
Only, he didn't stop immediately, and quickly grabbed its face and directly smashed it against a nearby wall.
*Bammm!
An explosion occurred, and the goblin's head instantly exploded when Kelvin did that.
Blood splattered as he did that, soaking the wall and Kelvin's clothes in the process. Only, Kelvin didn't care and kept grinning while doing this.
His body disappeared into a puff of black smoke, and dropped a magic stone after he died.
"Kelvin-sama, are you alright?" Sylpha quickly approached Kelvin, taking out a clean cloth as she wiped Kelvin's face which was covered in fresh blood.
"Um, didn't I say the upper floor wouldn't be difficult for me? My own strength is enough to take me to the middle floor by myself."
To Kelvin, it wasn't too difficult for him to go to the 15th floor for now. It was just that the weapons he was carrying were low-grade weapons whose durability was not very good.
Kelvin didn't want to take any risks, especially since Sylpha had also intentionally left her sword behind at his command.
As such, Sylpha's role here was purely as support, and she served as the front line that killed all the monsters that appeared.
"Would you like to proceed to a deeper floor, Kelvin-sama?"
"Yes, for now, my target is the 10th floor in one day. After that we can return to the surface around nighttime."
Because inside the dungeon, they didn't know the time, which meant that the two could have been in the dungeon for several days without their knowledge.
Although dungeons tended to be illuminated by glowing crystals, the concept of time did not exist here. Which meant they didn't know when it was day and when it was night.
That was something Kelvin wanted to avoid at the moment. He was still not strong enough to stay up for a few days. And, he would rather sleep on a soft mattress than have to sleep on the ground and rocks.
During his time on the 5th floor, Kelvin killed many types of monsters.
On the upper floors, there would generally only be Kabolds, Goblins, and Dungeon Lizards. After reaching the 6th floor, they would only encounter new types of monsters such as the Frog Shooter and War Shadow.
*Crack!
Cracks once again appeared, and instead of goblins like before, this time what appeared was a dark humanoid monster that had long arms with three claws that were sharp like knives.
"War Shadow, isn't it?" Kelvin looked at Sylpha next to him.
Sylpha nodded, "Yes, they're referred to as novice killers, so please be careful."
"Hehe, take it easy, it'll be easy anyway."
With that sentence, Kelvin instantly shot out, swinging his sword as he instantly cut War Shadow into two pieces.
Only, the sword he carried this time didn't seem to be able to hold any more weight, and it broke in half.
"Ah, damn it! My only weapon!"
Seeing his sword shattered, Kelvin's eyes twitched. Now, he had no weapon at all, and neither did Sylpha.
Even so, they continued on their way and before they knew it, they were already on the 12th floor.
And what Kelvin didn't know was, he was already raising the flag at this time.
