Chapter 25: 17th floor
"Is there a problem, Lefiya?" Kelvin looked at Lefiya in confusion.
From the moment they started walking, Lefiya kept glancing at him from time to time. It made Kelvin become confused.
'Is she interested in me?'
No, from what he remembered, Lefiya was supposed to be Ais' diehard fan, and she hardly paid attention to anyone else but Ais.
That meant ....
"N-Nothing!" Lefiya who was caught off guard, shook her head while looking at Kelvin doubtfully.
"Just say it, we're going to the dungeon anyway, it'll be dangerous if you don't focus while you're there."
In other words, just say what's in your head or you'll die being eaten by monsters in the dungeon, you idiot!
"B-All right..., I-That's ...." Lefiya confusedly looked around, she was nervous enough to come face to face with Kelvin, "A-Are Kelvin-san close enough to Ais-san...?"
At the end of her sentence, Lefiya glanced at Kelvin hesitantly, while she twiddled her fingers uncertainly, and wanted to see Kelvin's reaction and answer.
"...." Kelvin fell silent.
After all, he had guessed this earlier, so somehow he wasn't too surprised by Lefiya's question.
As an Ais fanatic, Lefiya was undeniably the one who always stuck to Ais in the anime.
In fact, although her role was quite small and inconspicuous, she was actually the girl who played an important role in the development of the story in the anime, especially on Ais herself.
Even so, Kelvin was still silent. How could he not be surprised by this Yuri Elf's question? After all, she was an Ais fanatic.
But, the problem was what answer would he give to Lefiya?
If he answered something that said about his closeness to Ais, it was inevitable that Lefiya might target him, and that would definitely be troublesome to deal with.
"Hmm? Well, we've trained together before, so I only know her from there. But, we're not really that close, you know?" Kelvin tilted his head, looking at Lefiya in confusion.
Although it was acting, and he wasn't very good at it. But, the one being talked about here was Lefiya.
With such a small act, Lefiya easily believed Kelvin's words.
After all, what Kelvin said wasn't wrong.
He and Ais weren't really close, they had met twice before; first when Kelvin did the exam, and second when they practiced in the courtyard.
So, what Kelvin said before was indeed the truth, even though he only mentioned a small part of it.
"Anyway, are you really interested in our relationship?"
Kelvin grinned as he winged Lefiya.
Of course, that was just his bluff. And to be honest, Kelvin didn't really care about the feelings Lefiya had for Ais.
"N-No! B-It's not like that!" Lefiya denied, swinging her arms while shaking her head nervously.
"Really? Well, even so it doesn't matter. Now, let's go pick up our other companions!"
Kelvin walked faster, as he left Lefiya who was struggling to match his footsteps.
"T-Wait, Kelvin-san!"
******
"So, she is the girl who will be joining us today, Master?"
Sylpha looked at Lefiya with narrowed eyes. Her gaze was directed at Lefiya, or rather at Lefiya's body.
From the top of the head, down to the chest, abdomen, and then the legs....
Seeing all that, Sylpha suddenly nodded in satisfaction, making Kelvin look at her in confusion while Lefiya was nervous as her body was stared at by Sylpha.
"Alright, I don't mind." Sylpha nodded.
After all, looking at Lefiya's 'small' body, Sylpha didn't feel intimidated because she knew that Kelvin preferred something 'big' like hers.
So, Lefiya was not a threat, and Sylpha could relax her guard.
"Alright, don't think too much. Now we're going to the dungeon!"
Ignoring Sylpha who was puffing out her chest with a satisfied expression, Kelvin led them towards the dungeon.
Unlike yesterday, today Sylpha brought her two twin swords. She also brought other preparations such as potions and medicines.
The two of them had already set their goals for today. The 17th floor-the place where the Monster Rex, Goliath appeared.
Although Lefiya's presence might be unexpected, but adding personnel was not a bad thing.
After all, what they were going to fight was a Monster Rex, and there was no certainty they could win a 2vs1 battle easily.
With Lefiya, who acted as the back row witch. Mereja became more perfect in terms of offense and defense.
This time, Sylpha acted as the vanguard, with Kelvin serving as Sylpha's support and protecting the back row, Lefiya, simultaneously. And then, in the backline, there was Lefiya, whose job was to provide magic support to the two of them.
With this, they were getting ready to travel to the 17th floor, but they forgot that they hadn't told Lefiya about this yet.
And, as expected..., when they arrived at the 16th floor, Lefiya was surprised when Kelvin casually replied that they would challenge the Goliath Rex Monster.
"...."
Lefiya now just wanted to return to the surface. She was beginning to regret why she had joined them.
*****
"A-Are you guys sure about this?" Lefiya asked nervously.
Her gaze was directed towards a straight path that no longer branched out like before.
Unlike the previous floor structure, the floor structure here formed like a rectangular hall.
The surrounding walls were made of rough stone, the only difference being the wall on the left side.
The wall on the left side, as if it was chiseled and polished in such a way, is so smooth, without a single rough protrusion that stretches straight from end to end.
This is the iconic architecture on the 17th floor-the Great Wall of Grief. Also known as the place where Goliath appeared.
Naturally, Lefiya felt nervous and scared at this moment.
Although she had often gone to the deeper floors, but this was the first time she went to challenge the Monster Rex with only three people.
"Don't worry too much, there's Sylpha here after all." Kelvin looked at Lefiya, and wasn't surprised by Lefiya's nervousness.
"Hum!"
Hearing Kelvin praise and rely on her, Sylpha immediately puffed out her chest with a proud expression.
Her chest, which was already big, became even bigger as it stuck out, making the maid outfit she was wearing tight as she did so.
It was just that neither Lefiya nor Kelvin saw this. After all, Kelvin was focused on the road ahead of him, while Lefiya was too nervous to notice such a thing.
And just then, a cracking sound was heard, making them become vigilant....
Crack-!!!
The wall began to crack, leaving stone fragments scattered on the ground.
"Looks like she's about to appear ...."
If asked, was he not nervous and feeling scared. It would be a lie if Kelvin said no.
A drop of sweat fell on his forehead, and his body twitched at the thought of the giant monster they were about to fight.
His body was shaking violently at the moment, not because of fear or nervousness, but because of the overwhelming excitement peaking, while the grin on his face could no longer be hidden.
Despite knowing that they were about to experience a life or death situation, Kelvin felt extremely excited. His blood was boiling with excitement, and he already couldn't wait to raise his weapon and fight at this moment.
*Crack! Crack! Crack!
The cracks in the cold were getting more and more numerous, the stones that had fallen because of the cracks one by one began to fall to the ground, making loud noises and causing puffs of smoke that covered their visibility.
That's when a sound appeared-a loud sound, slowly turning into sighs, groans, and finally into a deafening wave of loud noise.
Just as the sound was almost at the threshold, another loud sound came from within the walls ....
*Booom!
In the next second, the wall shattered, making splinters, or more appropriately called boulders scattered everywhere
With a loud noise, a large figure landed.
The trio turned their gaze on the creature.
Although it was covered by smoke, but they could see the silhouette of a giant humanoid, reaching seven meters in height, and making them look like ants when juxtaposed with the creature.
As the smoke gradually cleared, the creature's true form was revealed; black hair flowing behind, light gray skin, muscles as hard as steel, and eyes red as blood.
This was the Rex-Goliath Monster!
Roaaarrrr!
With the monster's roar, Goliath swung his arms and intended to crush their bodies into shreds.
"Dodge!"
Kelvin had already prepared for this. He carried Lefiya, who looked scared as her gaze was fixed on the Goliath on his shoulders. Meanwhile, Sylpha jumped out and landed not far from Kelvin.
"K-Kelvin-san..., i-it's ....!"
Lefiya looked terrified as she stared at Goliath with a pale face.
Although Lefiya was a talented adventurer and reached level 3, but she lacked in experience. She was also easily scared and could not focus on casting spells at times.
That was why Riveria wanted Kelvin to bring Lefiya with him.
Although she thought it was absurd, but seeing Kelvin's nature of not caring about death, and as if challenging death itself, Riveria hoped Kelvin could teach Lefiya a little about courage.
"Yes, you can wait here. Find an opportunity to use magic and attack the monster. Meanwhile, we'll take care of the front and protect you."
"Bu-But ...." Lefiya felt doubtful.
Would they really be able to defeat this monster...?
As someone who had often seen Goliath's conquests, how could Lefiya not realize the power of this Monster?
In fact, their Familia had to work together for them to defeat this Monster, and now, Kelvin was planning to defeat this Monster with only three people?!
Is he kidding?!
But, what Lefiya didn't know was; be it Finn, Gareth, Riveria, Ais and the other executive members, they could defeat Goliath by themselves. It was just that, they limited their movements and strength to conserve stamina while on deeper floors.
