Chapter 28: Chapter 28: hall of the justice
"You mean it? Can you heal Barbara's injuries?"
Before Barbara could respond, Nightwing became excited.
Barbara, on the other hand, remained calm. While she wanted to get back on her feet, she was also aware that there's no such thing as a free lunch.
"What do I have to give?" she asked, more composed than Nightwing.
Dane was surprised by her attitude but, after a moment, he understood. After all, being with Batman for a long time had taught her to be vigilant.
"Rest assured, there's no price to pay," he said. "You can take it as compensation for your efforts all this time."
To be honest, Barbara, as a superhero, couldn't bear the thought of being paralyzed in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. i just couldn't stand tragedy; didn't heroes deserve good rewards?
"If you want, you can continue your activities as a superhero after the surgery," Dane offered.
This time, Barbara was genuinely intrigued. Given a choice, she would prefer to be out and about like Batman and Nightwing, rather than doing logistics.
With a glimmer of hope, she asked, "Is it really possible?"
"Rest assured, we are the Justice League, and you can trust us."
Barbara looked at Dane, Clark, and Diana, thinking about how they had just solved a disaster that had devastated the entire city. She felt she could trust them.
She finally couldn't help but sob. "I... I want to. I want to get back to the way it was..."
Nightwing hugged her and comforted her.
Dane was also very emotional. He sympathized with her plight and knew that Barbara would eventually recover, even without his help.
Once she recovered, she would continue to fight criminals as Batgirl and form a team of female superheroes known as the "Birds of Prey." In the New 52, Poison Ivy was also one of the founding members of this squad.
Poison Ivy couldn't be left to her own devices. Given her nature, it was impossible for her and stay out of trouble. She would always be involved in incidents, either actively or passively, for various reasons.
Once this happened, Poison Ivy's position might shift to that of a villain. Despite their friendship due to this incident, Dane hoped she would go the right way.
His purpose was very clear: to deal with the increasingly violent crisis events in the future, the more superheroes, the better. Anti-heroes were heroes too.
"Alright, you'll come back to the Hall of Justice with us in a moment. We have all the equipment for healing you stored there."
"You still have a secret base?" Damian wondered.
Dane teased him again, "How fresh. Your dad has a bat cave, shouldn't the three of us have a place to hold meetings?"
Dane teased him again, "How fresh. Your dad has a bat cave; shouldn't the three of us have a place to hold meetings?"
"Do you think I can join your Justice League?" Damian looked expectant.
Dane smiled brightly. "I advise you to drop that idea. How old are you? You haven't even been to high school, right? Did you know that our Justice League doesn't accept illiterates?"
"I am fluent in eight languages!"
"But you don't have a high school degree."
"I know the history of the world!"
"But you don't have a high school degree."
"I hacked the computer of a US military base when I was 8 years old!"
Dane, project hologram into the air. It was Damian arrogantly boasting about his glorious deed of hacking the US military's computer.
Damian was dumbfounded.
Dane bowed his head and threatened, "Stinky boy, if you dare to be disobedient in the future, I will use this to expose you! Even your dad can't face the entire state apparatus alone, right?"
"You... you are so despicable!" Damian was shocked Dane could be so shameless.
Faced with Damian's gaze, Dane was not ashamed. A kid like Damian should be treated like this; it saved him lots of hassle.
Diana and Poison Ivy watched the scene, laughing, growing more curious about the sometimes mature, sometimes naïve man before them.
Alfred stood silently, smiling at the scene, saying nothing.
Inwardly, he sighed, reflecting that Wayne Manor hadn't seen such excitement in a long time.
It wasn't long before Batman and Red Hood returned, each carrying the other in their arms.
"Who won?" Dane asked, his curiosity piqued.
Jason removed his hood, tossing it aside, and collapsed onto the couch, unwilling to speak.
Nightwing, Barbara, and Alfred, still curious about the identity of the Red Hood, were left speechless when they saw his true face.
As if noticing them only then, Jason raised his hand in a lazy wave.
"Long time no see, Alfred, Barbara, and Dick."
"Jason!" they all exclaimed in unison.
"I know, I know, I'm not dead," Jason replied, lowering his hand as a felt pain through his shoulder.
"Looks like Batman won," he added.
Batman stood aside, letting out a soft grunt.
Clark, using his X-ray vision, could tell Batman's injuries were more severe than he let on, though he was holding up well.
"Well, now that Batman's been tested, according to the rules, he's officially a member of the Justice League," Dane declared.
"Diana, Clark, and Jason, let's welcome our new member!"
He clapped in an exaggerated fashion.
Clark, ever the honest one, was bewildered.
"Test? What test? Since when did we have such a rule?"
Batman's body stiffened immediately, his cold gaze fixed on Dane.
Poison Ivy stifled a laugh, turning her face to the side to avoid drawing attention.
Diana couldn't help but wonder about Dane—a man who clearly held grudges.
Dane feigned surprise, looking more shocked than Clark.
"Really? We in the Justice League don't have that rule? You must have missed it—the manual says so!"
"But we don't have a manual..." Clark responded, confused.
Dane reached into his pocket and pulled out a thick pamphlet, sliding it into Clark's arms.
"Here, take a look. This is what I mean by manual."
Clark stared at the pamphlet in disbelief. "There really is one..."
"my bad, Dane, said it exists, so it must be true!" he muttered, still stunned.
"Now, everyone except Damian and Alfred will be joining me back at the Hall of Justice," Dane announced.
"Why?!" Damian protested immediately.
Before anyone could respond, Dane disappearing with the Justice League members and their escort.
Damian, seething with anger, suddenly remembered something. He activated the suit on his body, trying to reassemble the teleportation bracelet.
But this time, the magic didn't work.
A notification flashed on his arm's display: You've been kicked out of the group chat.
"Ahh!" Damian screamed in frustration. "This annoying guy!"
----------------------
When they arrived at the Hall of Justice, everyone was immediately captivated by the high-tech atmosphere and advanced furnishings.
However, Poison Ivy couldn't resist voicing her thoughts.
"I thought you were a magic god. I expected your stronghold to be a bit more... magical," she commented.
Dane led the group forward, engaging in conversation with her as they walked.
"I do have a secret base that's a little more 'magical,' but it's my lair. I can't just show it off easily," he replied with a grin.
The Rock of Eternity wasn't just a magical haven; it was also a "great gold mine."
It had only recently occurred to Dane that the Eternal Rock might contain a large chunk of Eternal Metal.
In Black Adam, the seven members of the Wizarding Council once established their stronghold near Kandak. When they bestowed the power of Shazam upon Adam, a massive chunk of Eternal Metal could be seen hovering in the background.
It's reasonable to assume that the Wizarding Council originally came to collect Eternal Metal, only later discovering someone capable of inheriting Shazam's power.
Legend has it that Eternal Metal is a substance formed when the Eternal Rock was cast into the outside world. Naturally, it possesses magical properties and is considered one of the best conductors of magic.
As previously mentioned, Dane planned to create his own artifact using Eternal Metal, a material similar to Ulu steel from the Marvel Universe. It was the perfect material for crafting powerful artifacts.
However, similar to Kryptonite, the power of Shazam originates from the Eternal Rock. As a result, Eternal Metal from the Rock can have a debilitating effect on Shazam, just like Kryptonite affects Superman.
This is also why Black Adam can be injured by a missile made of Eternal Metal.
Soon, they arrived at the treatment room, which was equipped with advanced Kryptonian technology—particularly impressive nanotechnology that had proven to be incredibly versatile.
Bruce and Jason's injuries were healed in just a few minutes, thanks to the advanced treatment.
As for Barbara, she faced a more complex issue: a small piece of steel was lodged in her spine, having replaced the completely destroyed bones and nerves. After the surgery, however, she would be faster and stronger than ever before.
