Debuffed Farmer

Chapter 1

“…huh? This idiot-looking boy is my partner? Come on! How is he supposed to become a hero of any sort?!”

Where am I?

Looking around, this obviously wasn’t some place in any mortal realm. With pitch black, intangible walls around me, there was nothing for the eye to catch. It was like looking out endlessly into the abyss. It was like looking into the depths of the toilet bowl when you haven’t paid the water bill in several months.

Well, on the bright side, there was a dubious, yet relatively-attractive girl standing in front of me. However, it seemed that she wasn’t too happy with my presence, not that I could really control any of this…

“Play with the cards you’re dealt. He was one of the S-tier humans. If that’s not enough for you then I don’t know what will be.”

“But he’s so… plain! Couldn’t I get a cute girl like the goddess before me?”

“I’ll tell you this. Cute girls come with their own set of problems. Also why are you still complaining, you spoilt brat. He’s S-rank! S-rank, you idiot!”

“Ugh…”

Finally, the long-haired goddess in front of me turned and face me. With a very unpleasant look on her face, she glanced me all over. It’d be an action that’d warrant an arrest if the roles were reversed.

She walked over and pulled me up by the collar.

“Alright, you’re my partner. You got that?”

“Not really.”

Pulling out a scrunched up piece of paper from nowhere, she opened it up and began reading it out to me, in a voice so monotone that my teachers from the facility would be envious of. Anyone aside from me would be put to sleep by it. Luckily, I already had plenty of experience with this.

“Um. So the two of us are travelling to Wariest, the Land of the Warriors. Erm, you got the S-rank Farmer Class since you’re S-rank. Blah, blah blah, there are bad guys and good guys, you get the drill. Yeah, so we’re in charge of… um… I’ll ask them about it later. Anyways, I’m your goddess so I can check your stats and whatnot.”

What the fuck was I listening to?

It sounded like some synopsis for a poorly-planned out fantasy novel written by a pre-schooler. Honestly, I should be way more concerned about everything… but my mind is so much of a mess that I don’t even care anymore.

However, this privileged, spoilt girl was supposed to be my partner. I had a feeling that this was going to be more of an issue than one would think.

Also, there was so much information so abysmally explained that I almost missed it, but I’ve got the S-rank Farmer Class? That sounded quite appealing. I don’t really know what’s going on, but that was something that definitely sounded good.

“…yeah so did you catch all that?”

“I guess. Do you have any more information on what my cl—“

“Alright, let’s go then!”

“Hold—“

[Travelling to Wariest…]

“Hey, R-rin… where are you…?”

My eyes slowly adjusted to the overtly contrasting light levels. I noticed the thick forest of trees around me as I slowly pulled myself to my feet. I guess I’m in another world now, quite unbelievable, I must admit, but something’s got to happen after death… I could hear the voice of the goddess from earlier. It seemed that she knew my name.

“U-um… are you there…?”

“Me?”

“Y-yeah…”

She suddenly grabbed onto my shirt.

“T-this place is much darker than I thought it’d be…”

“Well obviously, we’re in the middle of a forest.”

“Can’t you console me a little more?!”

“I’m actually busy sulking about all the debuffs I just received.”

“What debuffs…?”

“It’s better if you didn’t know.”

“Come on! Don’t you know how to treat a girl?”

“Bro, what do you want from me? I don’t know where the fuck we are either? You’re the goddess aren’t you?! Aren’t you meant to be telling me?”

“Waa! I’m sorry! This is my first time as well~! The boy’s usually meant to take the lead in situations like this, aren’t they?”

“Don’t say it in such a misunderstand-able way!”

I began making my way through the thick woods, trying to find some sign of life or civilisation. The goddess followed shortly behind me, still panicking and grabbing my shirt.

“Can you let go of me? It’s already hard enough to walk through this shit.”

“But I’m scared! What if some animal comes out and attacks us?”

“If that were the case then we’re probably both screwed! Don’t you have any powers since you’re a goddess and all?”

“Not any that would help in a fight… I’m just here to keep an eye on you. You’re meant to be doing most of the work!”

“So basically you’re useless.”

“Ah! It hurts more when you say it like that…”

“Well, at least tell me your name.”

“My name…? It’s Goddess Seria.”

“You don’t act much like a goddess.”

“Hey! I’m cute and bubbly like a goddess!”

“I wouldn’t exactly describe you as those things…”

She started sobbing.

“You’re a terrible person! Why did I ever agree to go with you…”

“Ah, I’m sorry. It’s best we actually start working together.”

We continued on our way, with the goddess in a worse mood than before. I guess it was more the fault of me. I wasn’t exactly great with other people.

Well, that trait of mine was definitely the fault of the facility.
