Chapter 38: Entrance exam UA. Half-year later

Izuku Midoriya. An inconspicuous guy with green curly hair and freckles until recently could not even hope how much his life would change. Having met his idol - All Might, a timid and unremarkable quirkless nerd, having gone through excruciating training for his body and becoming barely fit for a quirk, inherited One For All, having eaten the hair of the top-one hero. His life and interests were always infringed upon and ridiculed by Katsuki Bakugo, his friend. However, this did not prevent him from making a choice at the right moment and following the path of a hero.

Today, he, like other dozens and even hundreds of participants, arrived at UA to take the entrance exam. Thanks to the questionnaire on the official website, anyone aged 15 could start the exam. Immediately after completing the plan to prepare Midoriya for One For All and clean the beach from trash, he went to the address where the entrance exam would be held.

8 am. Immediately at the entrance, near the arch, a familiar aggressive voice was heard from behind.

-Get out of my way, Deku...

-Kacchan?

-Don't stand in my way, or I'll knock you down. - he walked past with his hands in his pockets.

After six months, Taiko was able to normalize his weight. Now he looked like this: a guy of average height with broad shoulders and a free gait. Two scars on his face inspired awe and made many peer into his black eye with a bloody spot inside.

Right after he bought the house where Taiko lived with Kuinn, he managed to find a good teacher for staff fighting. He didn't need to improve his skills so much as he needed to get back into physical shape, essentially starting all over again. And why exactly staffs, you will find out further...

Seeing 7:57 on his wristwatch, Taiko wanted to have time for a part-time job right after the exam. A month ago, as soon as Taiko stopped looking like a skeleton, he got a part-time job in a cafe. There was an option to put him as a waiter, but his scary and eternally gloomy face scared off customers, so he often came to the place of a cleaner, receiving half the rate.

Unfortunately, if he was lucky, he could be called once a week to replace someone, so Taiko had a few more contacts in reserve to work more often. Having taken it into his head to smile more often, Taiko went to the entrance, where he immediately saw how the face of one green-haired guy was rapidly approaching the concrete, until a girl touched him, saving him from trouble. He was left levitating in the air with a stupid face of misunderstanding.

"Wow, a levitation quirk." Taiko smiled because of the funny expression on his face. He had to hurry, so going inside the large hall, Taiko took a seat and began to wait while the pro-hero Present Mic was getting ready and waiting for the last participants.

Having let Present Mic's inappropriate farce pass between his ears as if he was at a concert and not a presentation, he got down to business and began to tell the essence of the exam. In general, it was necessary to collect points by destroying different types of robot villains. Hundreds of participants will be distributed in different areas of one large urban-type polygon.

Someone with glasses asked from the audience a question about the fourth type of robot and a typo of such a prestigious academy as UA, at the same time making a remark to the already familiar curly green-haired guy who was bothering him.

- "Now it is clear who is a boring bore here. That's right, it is better to identify such at the very beginning." It turns out that the fourth type of villain is worth zero points and it was better to avoid him. He appears in clusters, but Present Mic so desperately and completely genuinely dissuaded him from avoiding this boss that Taiko almost believed him.

Taiko figured out their plan. It's some kind of endgame boss, maybe there's at least one guaranteed for each section, and it's most likely to appear towards the end or middle of the challenge.

Walking in his sports uniform, consisting of a beige windbreaker with a collar and baggy pants, Taiko was determined to take at least third place in points, dedicating the victory to Kuinn. Nothing warms and motivates him as much as Kuinn's smile, which supports him every moment. Kuinn, by the way, also normalized her weight, and changed a lot having matured a lot. Her figure became slender with aesthetic thinness, and her breasts grew. They live together and sleep in the same bed, so they can enjoy each other to their heart's content.

His thoughts were distracted by a guy passing by, namely, the already familiar tail. A flashback about Ojiro shot into his head. - "What the ..." Taiko rushed towards him and grabbed him by the shoulder. The same hair, the same quirk and tail, the same gait ...

Ojiro turned around and looked questioningly at the stranger. - Do we know each other?

- Holy shit... - seeing no reaction from Ojiro, Taiko continued, removing his hand. - Your... name is Ojiro?

- That's right, Mashirao Ojiro. How do you know my name?

Trying to get out of the situation, Taiko remembered about the dojo.

- I know the dojo. - Taiko said at random, hoping that this coincidence was true.

-Oh, you mean my parents' dojo? Have you been there yet? What's your name, maybe I'll find out your name?

- Despite his slightly repulsive and frightening appearance, the stranger didn't seem to want any harm, so Ojiro relaxed.

- I wasn't there, but I've heard about it. - Taiko extended his hand. - Taiko Garaki, let's get acquainted.

They shook hands with each other. Having demonstrated a strong grip, Ojiro tried to respond with an equally strong grip, but for some reason he felt that he would lose if he continued.

- Okay, don't lose, Mashirao Ojiro. - Taiko turned around and went to his section. Ojiro didn't understand why, but he got the feeling that the stranger was acting as if he had seen an old good friend. Despite his doubts, Ojiro couldn't remember meeting him or even hearing about him before.

Taiko could only guess about Ojiro's most mysterious origins among us. "Maybe this was a sign to join UA?"

Taiko went to the very last section, where there were already participants who could feel the uncertainty. Among them, a dwarf with purple balls on his head stood out. In front of them stood a huge closed gate. On the way to their section, another group at the neighboring section, a red-haired girl tried to calm down a loud and, it seemed, self-confident blond. It seemed that the blond was shouting something about a certain Iida Tenya, calling him an upstart.

"And why such a giant gate?" Taiko thought about the expediency of such a pompous structure.

Standing at the ready at the very edge of the concentrated crowd, the start thundered from Present Mic and the massive metal gates opened. Since the start was unexpected and without a countdown, the crowd hesitated for a moment, which allowed Taiko to run out first. After 50 meters, a robot giving one point appeared in front of him. It was the weakest among the others, so Taiko only needed to apply his knowledge of the structure of robots.

He knows that inside the robots there is a power supply, located somewhere in the chest, but behind the back of the head there should be a wire that powers the head, and the head contains both vision and an information processing center. The robot will simply stop working without information. This was done for safety reasons, so that the robot does not harm the participants, but the rest do not need to know this.

Having gone sideways immediately after the blow of the irreversible first-rank robot on one wheel, Taiko deftly jumped on its back and tore off the metal casing from the neck protecting the power cable, and then tore out the cable. After that, the robot stopped moving and fell. - "I wonder if I will get a point for this?" Here it was necessary to act as quickly as possible, since no one forbade interfering with the collection of points by other participants.

In this simple way, Taiko quietly went behind the back and took away many of their loot, while they tried to counter with something, openly speaking out against the robots.

- Hey! That's not fair! - a girl's voice was heard from behind, but Taiko didn't care if it didn't break the rules, he needed to take at least the top 3 in points, let the rest eat dust.

...

In the middle of the dark hall, the teachers, judges and the director of UA himself - Nezu were looking at a huge monitor.

- Wow, it looks like this participant knows about the weakness of first-rank robots, he even has enough strength to rip off the casing. Does he have a strengthening quirk? - Power Loader, responsible for the support department and creating costumes for UA students, was surprised.

"And not only that, he uses a gap in the rules to take points from others. Smart. It is unknown whether he has already shown his quirk or not. The quirks were indicated in the questionnaires, which Director Nezu carefully studied." Aizawa, watching from the side, commented, looking at All Might, who was watching one green-haired student more closely than the others.

Looking at Nezu, who turned his gaze to the guy with a reddened black eye and a scar on his face, disabling robot after robot, Aizawa did not dare to ask about his quirk yet. - "I wonder if he will try to disable the "zero" and will he want to? After all, you can see how with each robot the participant's fingers begin to bleed, erasing."

...

-Thirty-eight...-disabling another first-rank robot, only stronger second- and third-rank robots with reinforced plating at the back of the head remained around, Taiko simultaneously entered a report on how many points he had collected. -Thirty-nine. - he tried to catch his breath. With his fingers worn out, he won't be able to continue like this anymore, he needs to activate his quirk.

There were many disabled and almost undamaged robots scattered around. The time was approaching the last two minutes. One angry participant screaming behind, instead of trying to take the second and third ranks, ran closer and tried to hit him from behind in a fit of anger. -Because of you, I failed this exam, asshole!

Having received a demonstrative blow to the back, Taiko responded with the same blow, only stronger, knocking down the attacker.

-You know that this is against the rules? Instead of walking around and whining, you should do something. -He ran away in tears and angry, as did the other participants not far from him. They probably have nothing to lose anyway, since they haven't even scored twenty points yet.

-There is no choice, I need to activate it now if I want to defeat the "zero" and the others in my path.

After activating the quirk, Taiko's hair gave off a faint glow for a moment. An absolutely unremarkable combat staff appeared right in Taiko's hand.

-I'll have to sweat...- twirling the staff with one hand, Taiko began to methodically clean up. The first blow with all his might crushed the casing and pierced the hull. The staff weighed nothing at all for Taiko, but the real weight of the staff was different - exactly one kilogram. In the hands of other people, the weight of the staff and its heaviness were felt, but in Taiko's hands it was not.

The next blow of the same force destroyed the internal mechanisms of the target. Taiko moved smoothly, as if dancing, twirling the staff around himself. For him, it was not a weapon, but an extension of himself - light, obedient, perfect.

The machines, as if sensing a threat, began to change tactics, surrounding him from different sides. Taiko just grinned and abruptly changed direction, increasing the pace.

The next blow landed on the leg of the closest opponent - with a metallic roar, the car fell to the asphalt, and the head flew off. Taiko instantly jumped forward, the staff described an arc in the air, and another opponent lost his head, as if Taiko was playing hockey, imagining the puck instead of a head.

Every movement was calculated to the millimeter, each blow - the result of precise calculation. Taiko knew that his strength was not only in skill, but also in the staff. He felt that it was made especially for him, perfectly balanced, light as a feather.

For a split second, he froze, listening to the grinding of the remaining opponents. They were advancing, not realizing that they had no chance in this fight. Taiko intercepted the staff again, his gaze became cold as steel, and he said, as if addressing them:

-You should have chosen someone else.

The next series of blows was like a whirlwind: the staff crushed, pierced, broke. Taiko moved faster than their sensors could detect, his figure almost merging with the shadows. Soon silence filled the room - the enemies were defeated.

Taiko stopped, wiped a drop of sweat from his temple and looked at the staff, as if checking if he left a single scratch on it. Of course, the staff was intact, as if nothing had happened - this is also one of its strong points.

The staff is impossible to break, no matter how hard he tries. Once he even shoved it into a huge press... He had to stop the experiment exactly at the 100-ton mark, otherwise the press would have broken, and the staff did not bend at all, leaving a mark on the metal from the pressure.

Time passed, and the number of metal debris and broken plates on the asphalt increased. Taiko's hair became lighter and whiter with each passing minute, and the glow became stronger. Every minute of the fight, he became stronger not only because his body warmed up, and his heartbeat and adrenaline from the fight hit his head. But another feature of the staff - with each minute after the call, it doubled its mass by two times, while the user's hair turned white, as if charging.

Taiko with shining white hair and his unique emotionless and tragedy-stricken eyes beheld the final boss. Finally, the fourth rank appeared right after the collapse of one of the buildings. Everyone found out about it. A truly colossal machine that he could not turn off.

- Zero! Run!!! - everyone who had previously tried to defeat at least one of the robots away from the scrap metal dump arranged by Taiko shouted.

Taiko read the information about the evaluation system on the official website, it was said that it was decided not only by the points scored, but also by the judges by personal evaluation from 1 to 10. Surely, he had already surprised the judges and teachers watching him with just one knowledge of the weakness of the first robots, combat skills and agility.

If, as a cherry on the cake, he destroys the zero robot, considered the boss, which was scared at the presentation, this will be the pinnacle of achievements in the exam.

A huge metal muzzle stared and prepared to crush with its huge hand, destroying buildings on the way. The giant hand hovered over Taiko waiting for the fifth minute from the moment of activation of the quirk. On his hand was a watch with a timer and as soon as it showed five minutes, he began to act. The staff weighed 64 kilograms, because after five minutes the multiplier becomes not x2, but x4. If he swings with all his might, he can defeat even such a massive robot.

With one blow, he crushed the huge metal hand hanging right above Taiko. The robot's fingers fell, the metal flew in all directions. Taiko was already climbing the robot's body, while the giant robot was trying to find him. At the very back of the head, he prescribed a powerful blow to the robot's base and so it lost support, falling down. Dust rose around from the fall of such a body.

- Metal bitch. - Taiko disappeared in a dust cloud, standing above the defeated robot.

The teachers' reaction was immediate. - The second zero was destroyed! This happens for the first time in the entire history of UA!!!

-Time over-r-r!!! - thundered from the loudspeaker from Present Mic. -Everyone return back to the site!

Sweating heavily, Taiko returned back under the numerous amazed looks of those unable to say a word. Having canceled the quirk that was greatly depleting him with each passing minute, after which the effects of fatigue overtake him, the shine of his hair disappeared. He went to the backpack and took out a towel with a heart, which Kuinn herself sewed and gave him. Sniffing it, the towel reminded Kuinn of her scent.

His fingers were reddened, the fingertips were bleeding, and the skin was damaged and worn away due to the metal. Previously, having protective chitin on her hands, such a problem was not observed.

A red-haired girl passed by him, having a calm expression on her face before the test, and now slightly sweaty. She noticed the towel, namely the heart, which didn't fit Taiko's villainous appearance at all. - How cute. Did someone give it to you?

- Yes.

- A heart...

- Doesn't match my face? I know, but I like it.

- Hey! That's the guy who took our glasses! Come here, you idiot! I lost because of you! - A short-legged splinter from the crowd growled. Another short provocateur with purple balls on his head tried to break loose.

Rolling up his sleeves, Taiko packed the towel and stood up to give him a kick, when Present Mic intervened, deafening the small, impudent halfling with a sound.

- What happened to you? - the pro-hero approached.

- So I took your glasses, so what? It's not prohibited by the rules. I was faster than you, snails. - He addressed the puzzled crowd. They remembered how he destroyed the zero and they had to swallow their hatred.

Taiko left, leaving the others to gossip and bewilderment. He noticed how a local nurse and a couple of robotic carriers were taking away a wounded guy with curly green hair. - "It looks like his limbs are broken."

- Taiko Garaki? - one of the heroes-teachers of Eraser Head approached, already at a distance from the others. He was dressed in dark, with long black hair and, it seemed, eternally tired eyes. His tone sounded calm and cold-blooded, one could call him uncouth and unremarkable.

- Who are you, actually? - Taiko pretended not to know him.

- Aizawa Shoto. I am one of the teachers of UA. I only have one question for you. How did you know about the robots' weakness?

-Each type is not very different from each other in the internal structure of the power supply, so all the power cables go to the head to power the target identification systems. I checked and confirmed the guess. If you cut off the target identification, the robot will stop attacking. It seemed obvious to me, but it seems that if the others did not guess, then it is their problem. I would continue to do the same with the other robots, but as you can see, my fingers are not in the best condition after this.

Realizing that Taiko's knowledge is much deeper, and his reasoning and word construction are mature, Aizawa chuckled contentedly. The guy undoubtedly passed the exam, there is no need to even doubt it. Even if the judges have not yet summed up the results, everyone understands it anyway. Before leaving, Aizawa said one last thing:

-Okay. Go to the infirmary. Next week, make sure you are not late for classes. "This year will be interesting."

Taiko glanced at his watch. -"It's too early, I thought it would take longer. Quinn is still in college." He went to the infirmary where the kid was taken. He wondered why he had such serious fractures. If this was a mistake on the part of the examiners and robots, it wouldn't be cool.
