"Hey Galen! You're back! How did today's hunt go?"
A man in his thirties approached his coarse black clothes were stained with mud from long hours spent working on the farm.
Behind him stood several men and women who shared his rugged appearance.
In front of them loomed a group of burly hunters carrying various hunting gear; their scarred bodies spoke volumes about their experience in the wild.
The glint in their sharp eyes hinted at countless successful hunts.
"Hahahaha! Eamon! As you can see, today's harvest was quite impressive!" Galen announced as he stepped forward to clap Eamon on the shoulder, his laughter booming across the village square.
"That's great!" Eamon grimaced slightly under Galen's hearty slap on his back.
"Hey Azrael, how do you manage to have such incredible stamina? And Monkey, you're as fast as ever!"
A short distance from the village entrance, Falen, Eamonn, and a few others watched as Azrael, Lykon, and their muddy companions trudged toward them.
The group looked utterly miserable, caked in mud with a couple of children grumbling about their state.
"It's not that I'm bragging" Azrael declared with a proud grin, hands on his hips. "When it comes to stamina, you guys are just... well... trash!"
"Fine! You win this time," one child huffed bitterly while trying to wipe mud off his face. "Why do you always come out on top?"
"Because I hate losing! That's why I make sure I always win," Azrael replied with a cheeky smile aimed at Lykon. "Come on, Monkey! Next time, give it your all and maybe you'll surprise me."
"Whatever," Lykon muttered dismissively, his expression sour as he surveyed the mud that covered them like a second skin.
Suddenly, a booming voice interrupted their banter.
"Hey there, little ones! Back from your adventures?"
Azrael turned toward the source of the voice and his eyes lit up.
"Hey Hairy Galen! You're back from hunting!"
He trotted eagerly toward the village entrance.
Galen's lips twitched at the nickname but he quickly adopted a serious demeanor when he reached Azrael. "Can we please drop the 'Hairy' part? It's really not cool."
Azrael ignored him completely; his gaze was fixated on the massive animals strapped to the backs of Galen and the other hunters. Drool threatened to escape as he imagined an epic feast.
"Close your mouth before your saliva start falling all over the place," Lykon teased as he sidled up next to Azrael just in time for the rest of the children to arrive at the entrance.
"So did our champion defeat his enemy today?" Eamon asked playfully.
At that mention, Azrael's face fell into an exaggerated pout.
"Nope! He lost, miserably!" Lykon chuckled gleefully.
"Well well well," chimed in a plump woman behind Eamon with a smirk. "Looks like you finally met your match today!"
"You all wait! One day I'll beat it!" Azrael huffed defiantly.
"Hey, look! Your 'mother' is here!" Galen exclaimed suddenly, pointed with a wicked smile.
Lykon and the other children instantly shifted their expressions at Galen's words.
Turning their heads, they spotted a group of young girls, around 15 to 16 years old, carrying flower baskets brimming with vibrant blooms as they made their way toward the village entrance.
Their laughter rang out like the cheerful melodies of birdsong, creating a lively atmosphere.
At the forefront was a girl more beautiful than the rest; her hair flowed down her back like a shimmering waterfall.
Despite wearing simple clothes that couldn't hide her allure, it was her striking white irises that truly captivated attention, radiating an ethereal chill.
"Huh?" The leading girl paused as she noticed a gathering at the village entrance.
But when her gaze landed on Azrael and his friends, her expression morphed into one of anger and reproach.
Without hesitation, she handed her flower basket to another girl and briskly marched toward them.
"Looks like you guys are in for it again," Eamon chuckled as he observed her swift approach.
The others nodded in agreement, grinning mischievously at the scene unfolding before them.
"You lot again! How many times have I told you to behave? And now look at you, covered in mud and smelling terrible! You're not kids anymore!" She scolded them sternly, one hand on her hip while the other pointed accusingly at each child.
The boys stood silently with their heads bowed in shame as she reprimanded them.
It was quite a sight: a group of older boys being chastised by a young girl while adults nearby watched with amused smiles, a colorful tableau of youthful mischief.
"Come on, stop nagging already; it's not like you're our mother," Azrael muttered under his breath.
Suddenly feeling an icy chill run down his spine, he looked up to see the girl's piercing gaze fixed on him. "What did you say?" Snow's cold voice cut through the air.
Azrael quickly raised his head and stammered nervously, "Uh... Nothing! Just joking around! Don't mind me"
"I thought so," Snow replied with a snort.
"I know this was all your idea! You spend your days dragging these kids into trouble," she accused Azrael with an exasperated huff.
Azrael's face fell; he looked almost ready to cry as he thought bitterly to himself, "How is this my fault?"
A faint chuckle escaped Lykon's lips at Azrael's miserable expression.
"Are you laughing, Lykon? Go ahead; keep it up!" Snow turned sharply towards him with mock fury.
"N-no, mother,i...mean ma'am! I mean... Snow!" Lykon stuttered nervously while wiping sweat from his brow.
"Now hurry up and clean yourselves!" Snow commanded firmly.
"Yes, ma'am!" the children chorused in unison, as they dashed into the village, as if they were running away from a monster.
In mere moments, they vanished from Snow's sight, everyone except Lykon and Azrael.
"Snow, you always know how to teach these little ones a lesson," Galen remarked with a chuckle as he stepped forward, his eyes twinkling with admiration.
"Hello, Uncle Galen! Looks like your hunt was successful this time!" Snow's expression transformed in an instant; her serious tone melted away into a bright smile that lit up her face like sunshine breaking through clouds.
"Hahaha! Yes, today was indeed a fruitful hunt!" Galen laughed proudly, puffing out his chest just a bit.
"Pssst!" Azrael tugged at Lykon's clothes, signaling him to make a quick getaway.
Lykon nodded in agreement as they both turned to sneak away quietly.
"Hey! Where do you two think you're sneaking off to?" Suddenly, Snow's voice rang out behind them like an alarm bell.
"Uh-oh!" Azrael cursed under his breath as he slowly turned around, plastering on a forced smile that looked more like he'd bitten into something sour.
"Hahaha! Sneaking away? Who said anything about sneaking?" He scratched his head nervously.
Lykon joined in with a sheepish grin as both boys exchanged glances filled with apprehension.
"Hmph!" Snow snorted playfully. "Come on now; let's go."
