Deva Wizard: The Great Xian in King Arthur's Realm

Chapter 25: The Great Magic Tower

That one month went by quickly while Merlin spent every day in the potion-making room.

During those four years trapped in the mysterious dimension, Merlin never wasted his time in vain. He practiced using magical alphabets until became very adept; he, moreover, tried making other potions with special properties.

With tons of materials in his magical ring, Merlin succeeded in inventing more than ten types of valuable potions. Because of this, he knew that merging alphabets to turn them into magical hoops was a risky process.

Recently, he had been merging small magical hoops, a hundred types of them, together. One alphabet and thirty hoops were his limits. He had gone through several successes and failures.

The higher the level of the magical hoops, the more chance of failure he would face.

A lot of times when mistakes happened, he got injured or received several forms of side effects. Whether poisoned or cursed, he had experienced almost everything.

However, for he was a strong practitioner, poisons or curses from small magical hoops could not do him any harm; eventually, he always came up with antidotes.

The increased experience brought about the risks of failure at any time; these things were the path of the magical users.

But it was undeniable that they had considerably helped Merlin build the foundation of his experience. And it made him understand the path of magical alphabets even deeper. So each magical alphabet created was an alphabet user’s pride.

Alphabet users were divided into levels of their skills; Merlin was a blue-alphabet user. And the higher level was green. He figured that each alphabet user’s level advancement could be involved with their alphabet-using and great creation of each alphabet.

Although Merlin did not know how it actually advanced, he would not give up.

When Merlin was able to produce tons of potions using The Blue Cloak Shop’s supplies, he did not release the other types of potions into the market, only releasing one type. He applied a marketing tactic to draw people’s attention and brought these special goods out in limited numbers while setting up a lot of rules to increase the values.

Certainly, it went well as he expected. People were very interested in the new potions. For instance, a wondrous wound-healing potion, not only could it stop the bleeding, but it could also heal the wound quickly. If a warrior’s arm was cut off, with enough time, the wonderous wound-healing potion could reconnect that person’s arm. This was something the Wizards of Light could never do.

This one potion had aroused excitement from all over the world.

Hearing the news, people’s eyes were glowing up; they came wildly running to The Blue Cloak Shop to buy it.

But when they heard that the shop was going to sell it in limited numbers; things got chaotic. So, in the end, the shop decided to have them bid for the potion. And for that reason, The Blue Cloak Shop earned an excessive amount of profit.

Merlin never used any rare or expensive raw materials making all types of potions. But the things that increased the value of these herbs were the magical hoops used for distillation. He found the more the herbs were distilled by the hoops, the better the potion’s quality acquired.

Aside from making money, Merlin also did this to cultivate his alphabet-using skills. To repeatedly make them made him experienced. And to come up with new things, likewise, made him more skilled.

Time went by, and finally, the day for the magical-cloak-seizing test had come. Over ten thousand wizards came to Waldecian city giving liveliness to its atmosphere as if it was a big festival time. Surely, it had been like this every year because this test only took place once a year.

Young and old wizards came to the meeting point: a gigantic yard in the middle of Waldecian Academy. So many people were gathering here like a colony of ants.

Just then, at the specified time, a golden ray glowed out in the sky brightly. The fluttering golden light was immensely sending out magical pressures; it lowered from the sky onto the distinguished elevated stage they had prepared.

When the golden ray faded out, it clearly revealed a group of people. They were all wearing the priest’s white cloaks and one of them was in a silver one.

They were the Church of Light’s priests. Most of them were wizard warriors while the one wearing a silver cloak was an archwizard.

Merlin could not keep his eyes off them.

With the magical pressures from their bodies now, Merlin was absolutely not their match. He was not even sure if he could take a wizard warrior down.

From the information he got from the library, wizard warriors could fully use shortcut spells. They could do so without their powers being reduced, unlike the magical practitioners or the sorcerers: their magical powers would drop by half.

And as for archwizards, the experts, they could use basic spells without having to cast them.

Therefore, the archwizards were formidable to normal people. They were appointed as important figures in each kingdom; some of them were the kingdoms’ towers of strength. And aside from that, if their skills were at the rank of archwizard, they would be called the guardians of the kingdoms.

It was even higher status than a king. A guardian possessed the true power of each kingdom; it was the highest rank of each.

To summon a guardian, a king needed to use his seal to ask for a favor. So, the guardian of each kingdom could indicate life or death with his power. Since the olden times, there were not so many guardians in each kingdom.

In the past, this realm was divided into many kingdoms; when it came to an era when a kingdom was without a guardian, the fall would come to it easily.

There were a lot of kingdoms and countries in this world, but there were only five great ones.

Therefore, these kingdoms were called the five great kingdoms. Each of them had powerful guardians dwelling in them.

And the reason they were called the five great kingdoms was not only because they had guardians, but also because they had powerful magical items.

They were the kingdoms nobody dared fight. Even the five great kingdoms themselves would never seriously fight one another to the point of downfall.

It was all because of the magical items they had; those things were extremely powerful. Their powers had maintained the balance between the five kingdoms to this day.

This era was called One Guardian. Each kingdom only had one guardian; they were the pillars of strength of each kingdom. Meeting a guardian was a rare chance.

If there was no critical situation, they would never summon them. So it was hard that they would show up; they were like mythical figures.

At that moment, the old man wearing a silver cloak stepped up and powerfully stated,

“Welcome, all the attendees of the magical-cloak-seizing test. I am Abus Medei, the Holy Priest of the Church of Light. Now, it is time to begin seeking the ones qualified to possess the magical-seal stones. Behind this dimension door is the place for the test. After passing through this door, everyone will meet with the Great Magic Tower, the place where the magical-seal stones were kept.”

The Holy Priest Medei paused then continued,

“The magical-seal stones will be appearing from the tenth floor of the building. The higher you go, the better the stones’ quality will be. This tower has thirty-eight floors. Each of you could take only one stone. And if you take more than that, with its power, the tower will randomly destroy them until there is only one left. Beware of this.”

“The Great Magic Tower only welcomed boys and girls under eighteen years old who have never owned a magical cloak before. If anything deviates from these rules, you will be rejected and never welcomed again.”

Medei smiled heartwarmingly. His statement was simple yet powerful.

The attendees were delighted and excited after hearing that.

But suddenly the holy priest sighed and said,

“But for these past five hundred years, nobody has ever gotten higher than the twenty-fifth floor. Although that person was a very talented wizard, who had achieved the rank of wizard warrior, he could not go further. Because the higher you go up, the more brutal magical pressure you will have to face. Bending over backward and bearing too much magical pressure can result in one’s body breaking down. So I suggest you do not force yourself too much, or else you may not find such a pleasant ending.”

The Holy Priest Medei said worriedly. He mercifully warned the participants.

“Alright…it seems the time has come. The magical-cloak-seizing test begins, now.”

After saying that, Medei summoned his weapon. He said a few words; those soft words dumbfounded a lot of people.

“Reveal yourself, Cerberus.”

Suddenly a three-dog-head cane with ruthless faces appeared in the air.

It was a Spiritual Weapon, the greatest of all weapons.

Merlin was interested, staring at the Spiritual Weapon in front of him because he was also a Spiritual Weapon’s holder.

As a known fact, there were only a few people possessing these weapons due to the fact that they were not made by humans. These things are the legendary objects in the present time.

These Spiritual Weapons were the spiritual wills in the form of weapons. Their powers would endorse the users’ magical powers. Each one of them had different unique attacking techniques, depending on the spiritual wills dwelling in them.

Medei was the holy priest of the Church of Light; he was the pillar maintaining this place. So, it was not a surprise that he had a Spiritual Weapon in his possession.

Medei was now at the center, holding his Cerberus cane. He swung his cane around while mumbling spells that were hard to understand.

After a short while, suddenly, Medei hit his cane down at the place where he was standing. A golden beam was formed like a cobweb, and a complex, enormous magical hoop then appeared.

Merlin noticed that Medei was sipping a potion earlier; he could clearly remember that that was the potion he produced and sold: the one that could shorten the spell-casting time.

That being said, it meant that Medei’s spell-casting time earlier was already reduced. If he had not drunk the potion, that spell he just cast would have taken a longer time. It was no surprise why people needed this potion.

Medei spent some time arranging the big magical hoop; after a while, he dashed out of it. As soon as he raised the Cerberus cane and swung it, a golden beam stormed up from the magical hoop to the clouds in the sky; it looked like a giant golden pillar.

When the golden beam leaped up in the sky, Medei looked obviously weary. He took a deep, long breath then said,

“Alright…the test begins NOW.”

After his words died, the crowd of people that seemed like a colony of ants madly rushed to that pillar. It was the sign saying the test had truly begun.

Even Merlin could not help feeling thrilled about this event.
