Chapter 15: Troublemaker Fabian
Hearing this, though surprised, everyone believed that, as it was true, old Jim's family for generations were hunters, and it was possible to have such precious drugs.
"Okay, not bad. I will buy it; name the price." A young man followed with two servants and quickly said as he appeared out from the crowd. The people gathered quickly to clear the way for them to come ahead.
Old Jim and the people around him changed expressions as they looked at the young guy who appeared. There was a hint of hesitation in old Jim's eyes, which wasn't like someone who was happy to sell.
"What? Not happy?" The young man sneered. "Didn't I say I'm buying this? I'm in a good mood, so take this and send the wolf corpse to my place."
With that, he tossed a single silver coin at Old Jim's feet, smirking as he watched Jim's face twist with anger.
He was angry because the price he gave was just a single piece of silver, which might be enough for ordinary people for a week or two but nowhere near the true value of the wolf's corpse.
They had spent days using drugs and traps to hunt the beast. The cost of these efforts alone was far more than a single silver coin. And now, this young bastard was demanding the wolf's corpse for just one silver coin. How could Old Jim not be furious? He wanted to beat the shit out of this bastard, but he didn't dare.
Because the bastard wasn't from an ordinary family but from a family of warriors. They have first-rate martial artists within their clan, making them one of the strongest powers, except for the army stationed here.
The young man's name was Fabian Ciska. His family had a history of being soldiers, but after leaving the army, they had chosen to settle down in this village. And especially Fabian, as he is known for his stupid actions and is a frequent troublemaker.
He used his family name to make the lives of most ordinary villagers difficult, from trying to force himself on different young women to beating villagers; he had done everything.
His family has connections with the army, and their own strength is strong, so naturally ordinary villagers don't dare to do anything.
"What are you thinking? Do you not want to sell it to me?" Fabian rebuked, his tone sharp. His two servants were just about to make a move when a sudden voice rang out, stopping them in their tracks.
A young, handsome man in casual clothing stepped forward, interrupting Fabian. "I'll take it and pay one hundred silver coins," he said confidently. It was none other than Ash, who had been quietly observing everything that had transpired.
He wasn't going to join this if he didn't need the wolf corpse urgently. And not to mention he wasn't afraid of some dude who could bully the weak villagers.
Now he also had the backing and a thick thigh of his master, who gave him confidence.
"How dare you talk when my master is talking!" One of the servants around Fabian quickly roared, seeing an unknown guy interrupting his master.
But before Fabian and his servant could say anything else, he took out a simple token and showed it to them.
He wasn't going to wait and talk all bullshit and then show his true identity to face-slap the stupid young master. So he directly took out the token that his master gave him.
The servant who was about to curse stopped immediately, and even Fabian, who was proudly standing in the middle, changed expression seeing the token taken out by Ash.
Not to mention them, even the people around the villager and the old Jim's expression also changed the moment he saw the token. Everyone within the Black Iron Village knows what the symbol of stars means on the token.
Only by becoming a true member of the court could one receive an official position, and the token in front of them was proof of that identity. In the entire village, only five people possessed such a token, and none of them were individuals a mere dandy could afford to provoke.
Fabian's expression changed; the proud and cocky smile disappeared. His face turned into someone who was holding his shit.
The villagers and old Jim quickly make their way and seem to forget about the dandy.
"Yes, young master, it's my honour to sell something to you. Please tell me where we should deliver the corpse," Old Jim said eagerly, completely ignoring Fabian as he quickly shifted his attention to Ash.
Ash, in turn, didn't spare Fabian so much as a glance. The bothersome dandy wasn't worth his time. He was far more interested in testing and understanding his ability. After a brief exchange, he told them to follow him.
He then, with the old Jim and his two hunters carrying the wolf corpse, left the shocked crowd.
Fabian remained standing without moving as he felt so insulted, never before had Ash not taken a single glance at him like he wasn't worth noticing. But what made him angrier was he also felt glad he didn't look at him.
He had felt small in his life; he had, throughout his life, suppressed others, but today he felt insignificant in front of someone else. He remained standing as he clenched his fist.
"Master, are you okay?" One servant noticing a change asked. But he didn't answer.
The other servant, who had been silent from the beginning, seemed lost in thought as if recalling something.
"Isn't he that kid Ash—the loner? How does he have an official token?" He murmured, his words inadvertently snapping Fabian out of his frustration.
"What did you say? You know him?" Fabian asked sharply, awakening from his lost state.
"Yes, master, I remember now! He's the loner, Ash. He would always stay by himself—an orphan with no family or relatives. But how does someone like him suddenly have an official token?" the servant said, his tone filled with disbelief.
"Are you sure it's the same guy?" Fabian asked again, narrowing his eyes.
"I'm absolutely sure, master. He even became a reserve soldier—I've seen him many times before," the servant replied confidently.
Hearing this, Fabian's eyes gleamed with a fierce intensity. "Find out everything that's happened with him in the past few days," he ordered.
"Yes, master," both servants nodded in unison.
Fabian sneered as he muttered to himself, "Hmm if you're really just a low-level nobody without a strong connection to a big boss, I'll make your life worse than a dog's."
