Divergent King: Master of Myriad Anomaly

Chapter 24: Killing the Nightmare Mutant

It didn't become afraid of arrows; although the arrows weren't filled with internal energy, they were still fast and could hurt animals like tigers or lions, but the Nightmare Mutant didn't seem to care about the arrows as it ran through them.

The arrows struck the creature, but the strange black scales covering its body were like an impenetrable armor. Not a single arrow managed to pierce its skin—not even a little.

Seeing this, he knew ordinary arrows could not do anything to it. He also remembered that every time a Nightmare mutant appeared, it would create chaos in the city, and large forces were needed, not to mention he heard they can be contagious.

Especially the black mist around it, which contains a nightmarish aura that can corrode living beings, making them lose their minds or, in some cases, transform into Nightmare Mutants.

Ash knew he had to be cautious when facing this creature. Thankfully, his training in archery over the past few days had greatly improved his skills, giving him some confidence.

He glanced at Grim, who was already prepared, a fierce glow in its eyes. It seemed to sense his master's determination and, without hesitation, charged ferociously at the Nightmare Mutant.

Ash quickly drew the bow given to him by the Village Chief and used the Nine Heart Arrow Technique. With practiced precision, he fired two arrows consecutively—one stronger than the other. The display of power highlighted his progress, as he could now fire two arrows in sequence with increasing strength.

The two arrows flew one after another, like homing missiles tearing through the wind, aiming straight for the Nightmare Mutant. The creature seemed to sense the power behind the arrows as the black mist surrounding it flared up violently.

One of its arms began to twist and contort unnaturally, lumps of flesh falling to the ground as bones started to protrude and reshape. Within seconds, the grotesque transformation formed a shield-like structure, ready to block the incoming attack.

The two arrows collided with the bone shield and exploded with a strong burst of power.

Boom!

Booom!

One after another, the two arrows struck their target. The first arrow cracked the bone shield, while the second, stronger arrow shattered it entirely, sending pieces flying several meters. But even after taking such damage, the Nightmare Mutant didn't stop. It began advancing, ready to attack again—until Grim suddenly appeared from the side, charging at full speed.

As Grim ran, his body began to transform. His frame grew larger, his fur thickened and bristled, and his teeth and claws became terrifyingly sharp and deadly.

With a single, massive claw strike radiating a bloody aura, Grim severed the injured arm of the Nightmare Mutant in one clean motion.

Bang!

The arm went flying, falling dozens of meters away, but the moment it fell on the land, the black mist coming out from it seemed to corrode the land, destroying the green grass and plants beside it.

The Nightmare Mutant roared like a beast, but it was still standing as it didn't feel the loss of his arm. And his aura also didn't decrease; instead it seemed to become fiercer.

Grim's aura of a bloody, ferocious beast and Gloomy and eerie aura of Nightmare Mutant collided, creating a terrifying atmosphere as both of them seemed like a disaster.

But Ash had no intention of letting the Nightmare Mutant engage in a one-on-one fight. From the very moment it forced them into battle, he had resolved to kill it.

Without hesitation, he quickly nocked and fired a series of arrows, each imbued with a small amount of internal energy. While these arrows were much weaker than his Nine Heart Arrows, they required significantly less internal energy, allowing him to fire in rapid succession with less caring about internal energy.

Multiple arrows went flying with fast speed, and the Nightmare Mutant quickly tried to evade them, but as it moved from another direction, Grim jumped towards him with the claws that wanted to tear its body.

Ahh!

It roared, enraged at being trapped between two opponents. The black mist around his arm burst, and from its severed arm, sharp bone spikes suddenly shot out, forcing Grim to halt his attack and swiftly dodge the deadly projectiles.

And ran fast towards Ash as it wanted to take him down first.

Ash knew he was the target; his eyes glowed with a mysterious aura, and his concentration reached its peak.

He rapidly fires one arrow after another with internal energy, but the mutant seems to not care as it takes one arrow after another, which injures him somewhat but doesn't allow him to penetrate.

But just as the creature was about to close the distance, a series of powerful arrows suddenly appeared, hidden among the barrage of weaker shots.

Boom!

The first arrow struck the Nightmare Mutant's shoulder, tearing off a chunk of flesh.

Booom!

The second arrow followed swiftly, nearly ripping the entire shoulder apart. Yet it wasn't over. The third and strongest arrow shot forward, tearing through the air with an aura so overwhelming it seemed almost alive.

For the first time, even the Nightmare Mutant—a creature devoid of pain and fear—paused, its twisted form visibly trembling as it tried to evade the strike.

BOOOOM!

The final arrow detonated with a massive explosion, obliterating half of the Nightmare Mutant's entire body in a single, devastating blow.

But even after half of its body mutilated and destroyed, it seemed to not stop and wanted to attack him, but at the last moment, from behind, a giant wolf pierced its skull.

Crack! Crack!

And crushed its skull quickly, finally stopping its moment, killing it.

Crash!

Its weird, mutilated corpse collapsed to the ground, the eerie black mist seeping from its body. The mist spread outward, corroding everything it touched, leaving the soil within a few meters barren and lifeless.
