Chapter 17: He seems missing Ethan
The next morning, when Noah opened the door, he didn't expect to see Shawn, fully dressed and ready, sitting on the sofa.
"What time did you come back last night?" Noah wrapped the scarf around his neck twice.
Shawn stood up, unable to suppress a yawn. "Not long after you called, they got tired and stopped playing."
"What are we having for breakfast?" The two walked side by side on the road, the cold wind as rude as ever.
Noah's voice came from beneath his scarf. "I'll have a bagel later, I ate too much last night."
"You really aren't fat."
Noah didn't respond, continuing to walk forward. But he couldn't help turning his head slightly, thinking to himself how this person eats so much, yet his jawline is still quite defined.
Why is that?!
When they arrived at the shop, they immediately began preparing as usual.
"You're Noah?"
They both turned around at the same time. "I am. What's the matter?"
At first glance, it was clear the person was an omega. He had the standard fair skin and delicate features, with a pair of round, bright eyes that unconsciously made one think of a feline.
"You're not allowed to like Ethan, understand?"
It turned out Ethan's admirers had found their way here.
"It's business hours right now, can we talk about personal stuff after I'm off work?"
The omega's beautiful eyes scanned the shop. "I'll buy everything in the store, that should be enough to get you to talk to me, right?"
Noah gave a polite smile. "You won't be able to finish all this. I can't let my hard work end up in the trash."
"How about double the price? Stop being so wordy."
Noah smiled the same way. "No amount of money will work. This is a law-abiding society. Forced buying and selling, like this, shouldn't be allowed, right?"
Seeing Noah wasn't buying any of it, the omega looked at the cakes in the display. "This one, this one, and these, pack them up for me."
And then added, "I'll give them to Ethan, so we can eat together."
Noah packed up the coffee that the omega had ordered, giving a polite smile. "Thank you for coming. Hope to see you next time."
The omega snorted, swinging the bag in his hand and leaving arrogantly.
"Noah, are you... okay?" Shawn looked at Noah with concern, seeing that Noah had already eaten two pieces of cheesecake.
"I'm fine. I just suddenly craved it." After finishing the sweet cheesecake, Noah felt much better.
The omega stood outside the office door, took a deep breath, and then, with a composed and bright smile, knocked on Ethan's door.
"Ethan, you must be tired from work. I brought you some coffee and cake, you can have it during your break."
At the sight of the omega, Ethan paused for a moment, then looked at the bag in his hand. It was the same packaging that Noah had used last time.
"Please sit, I still have some documents to go through. Apologies for not being a better host."
"Ethan, why are we being so polite? It's no big deal. I can just wait on the sofa."
Ethan dialed the phone on his desk. "Please bring a cup of black tea."
"Mr. Harrison, black tea," Sam came in, and quickly noticed Lyon sitting on the sofa.
Lyon was the omega who had clung to Ethan during his childhood, always talking about wanting to marry him. He looked young, and in fact, was young—only 23, having just graduated with a master's degree.
Sam had run into him a few times when he was still in school. He was like gum stuck to Ethan, never able to get rid of him.
"You must be Mr. Harrison's guest. Let me take you to the lounge to wait. Mr. Harrison doesn't like having people around when he's working, it distracts him."
Lyon blushed, as though he had imagined something, and said, "Then I'll wait for Ethan there."
Sam wasn't surprised that Lyon didn't remember him. The few times they had met were one thing, but more importantly, Lyon only had eyes for Ethan. Anyone else couldn't get into his sight.
After settling Lyon down, Sam felt a little schadenfreude. The person hadn't managed to follow through, and now the self-proclaimed rival was sniffing around.
Felix pushed himself out of his chair with his legs, sending the chair gliding smoothly in a graceful arc. "Hey, what did Mr. Harrison call you for just now?"
"To bring tea and water. He has an important guest."
Felix raised an eyebrow. "Tea and water? Then why were you smiling when you came in?"
Sam might have been a little too eager, unable to hide his excitement. "It's a pretty omega."
Felix scoffed. "That omega is here for Mr. Harrison, what are you so happy about..."
Felix had already returned to his desk, his head lowered as he flipped through papers.
Sam's gaze turned inquisitive, landing on Felix's profile. "What are you staring at me for?"
Felix rested his chin on his hand. "I'm comparing—who's more good-looking, you or him?"
Felix ran a hand through his hair and shot Sam a look. As a beta, how could he compare to an omega with such natural advantages?
"How boring."
After saying that, Felix returned his focus to the proposal in front of him, occasionally circling and drawing on it. He would only pass it to Ethan for review once he was satisfied with the changes.
"You're more good-looking."
Felix, too focused on his work, only caught the word "you" and absentmindedly asked, "What? I didn't hear that."
"Nothing, just praising your work ethic."
Meanwhile, in Ethan's office, he received a call from Mrs. Jones.
"Lyon should be here by now. Anty Simons asked me to send him to your company for an internship for a year. He needs to learn well. You have to teach him properly, don't let him go back empty-handed."
Ethan pinched the furrow between his brows, clearly annoyed. "Mrs. Jones, you know what Lyon thinks of me. I already have someone I like, and I don't want any unnecessary connections with Lyon."
Ethan hadn't even stabilized his own romantic life, so he didn't have the luxury to deal with this clingy omega, who had eyes only for him. If his feelings were stable in the future, someone like Lyon would be even more of a person to avoid.
"You've got two capable assistants, right? Have them take Lyon under their wing. You need to make sure Lyon gets something out of this one-year internship. That way, you can consider it a favor to Anty Simons."
Ethan knew that Anty Simons would do anything for Lyon, his only son. Since Mrs. Jones had brought it up, Anty Simons had probably put in a lot of effort.
"Alright, I understand."
Ethan opened his phone and sent a message to Sam.
S: [I'm leaving Lyon to you. Keep him busy, and make sure he stays out of my office.]
Lyon's sudden appearance had probably caused Noah quite a bit of trouble. Lyon had grown up pampered, inevitably developing a somewhat spoiled personality, but he wasn't a bad person at heart.
Ethan hesitated, deleting and retyping his message. If Noah was upset because of Lyon, sending him a message now would only add fuel to the fire, making the situation worse.
Noah stared at the message on his phone, not planning to reply. As the closing time approached, he called out, "Noah, clean up, we're heading home."
"Don't close yet. There's still one more customer coming."
A man in a sharp suit pushed the door open. When Noah saw the omega behind him, his eyes dimmed.
"It's been a while." Indeed, it had been some time since Noah had looked at Ethan's face up close.
"Have you not been designing new products lately?" Ethan subtly leaned toward Noah.
But before he could get any closer, a hand grabbed his arm. "Ethan, Aunty Jones asked you to take care of me. It's after work now, so how about taking me out for a walk?"
Ethan tried to pull his hand away but found that the other person was holding on tightly, with no intention of letting go.
"Sorry, I was delayed for a bit." Felix and Sam entered the store, one after the other.
"I said I'd visit more often to support your business, but recently I've been so busy!" Felix wasn't exaggerating—his family's arranged dates had been even more frequent lately.
Ethan's gaze landed on the hand that was draped over Noah's shoulder.
Sam quickly pulled Felix closer to him. "You mentioned a dish before, one you could eat every day and never get tired of. Do you still have it?"
Felix immediately became interested, his eyes scanning the breads in front of him. "Ah, that one sold out already. I figured it would be popular since it's so delicious."
This was the first time Felix had seen Lyon, but after one glance, he immediately recognized him as the beautiful omega that Sam had mentioned.
