Chapter 70
Chapter 70 Lu Boss, Something’s Off About You!
Shen Muyan, craving Imperial Chicken Wings, had to rely on Fang Ya.
“Hey, you mooched food yesterday, so today it’s your turn to stand in line and get stir-fried noodles. I want two iced mung bean smoothies, and the rest is up to you. Don’t forget the Imperial Chicken Wings. They look amazing.”
“Don’t worry about Song Xuanxuan. Just for the two of us.”
Her tone was commanding—something that would’ve prompted Fang Ya to reply with a snarky, Why don’t you send your mom to do it? had it been anyone else.
But this was Shen Muyan, her best friend. The two often spoke this way, and politeness would’ve made them feel like strangers or raised suspicions of a hacked account.
“Call me Sister Fang Ya, and I’ll go, hehe,” Fang Ya said.
“Are you going or not?” Shen Muyan asked.
“Can’t, Boss Shen! I’m in Chang City filming a food tour video. The account hasn’t been updated in half a month, and I’ve already lost 30,000 followers. What can I do, waahhh!”
Fang Ya had already seen the posts in Lu Qin’s QQ group and had drooled over the Imperial Chicken Wings.
Shen Muyan was speechless.
“You go today, and next time, I’ll stand in line. Oh, by the way, I want my noodles to be mildly spicy.”
“Aren’t you in Chang City?”
“Hehe, I’m on the high-speed train now. I’ll be in Jiang City in 30 minutes. Filmed the video this morning, but getting a return ticket was a pain.”
Shen Muyan put down her phone, pursed her red lips, and stood up. She changed outfits, grabbed her car keys, and headed to the underground garage.
When Shen Muyan did something, she did it with efficiency—even when buying stir-fried noodles. Driving her sleek Mercedes sedan, she arrived at People’s Square in just nine minutes. Fortunately, finding a parking spot during the day was still possible.
After stepping out of the car, she glanced towards the street and quickly spotted Lu Qin’s stall. The long queue was unmistakable, starkly contrasting the relatively quiet neighboring stalls. Even Snowman Icy City, known for its affordable and popular drinks, had lost some customers to Lu Qin.
The allure of iced mung bean smoothies—healthier and tastier than milk tea—was too strong, even if the wait was long. Shen Muyan strode forward, her long legs carrying her swiftly into the queue.
The simple yet elegant outfit—tight light-blue jeans, a white V-neck T-shirt, and beige casual shoes—highlighted her tall and perfect S-curve figure. Her attire was plain, but her physique made her stand out effortlessly.
On the street, men’s first glance at women is often directed at their figures, and Shen Muyan’s was nothing short of stunning. Even amidst other scantily dressed young ladies, she stole the show.
Closer inspection revealed her gray baseball cap partially covering her face, but the glimpse of her exquisite features was enough. Her delicate and clean-cut facial features combined feminine charm with a touch of icy elegance—a beauty surpassing that of most celebrities.
The men nearby were awestruck, rubbing their eyes and stealing glances repeatedly. If not for her aloof demeanor, they would’ve likely pulled out their phones to snap pictures.
“Miss, do you want to cut in line? I don’t mind.”
For someone like Shen Muyan, it was no surprise a man would offer his spot. More surprisingly, the other (male) customers behind didn’t protest.
“No need,” she replied coldly, continuing to queue.
Some onlookers silently congratulated themselves—this trip was worth it. Not only could they enjoy Lu Qin’s delicious food, but they also got to admire an absolute stunner.
Stepping to the side slightly, Shen Muyan glanced forward. From afar, she spotted Lu Qin at the front of the line, skillfully tossing noodles in the wok.
Even with her 20/10 vision, the long distance only allowed her to make out his silhouette. Lu Qin’s movements were seamless and smooth, and his serving speed was impressive.
As she moved closer, now eight or nine meters away, she finally got a clear view of his face. The sunlight outlined Lu Qin’s sharp, handsome profile with a faint golden glow. His expression was calm yet focused—he was fully immersed in his work.
“Lu Boss, three stir-fried noodles, two iced mung bean smoothies, one Imperial Chicken Wings, and two boxes of Ice Crystal Cake. How much?”
“124 yuan. QR code on the right, thank you,” Lu Qin replied with quick mental math, glancing briefly at the customer before returning to his cooking. His efficiency impressed her.
When it was finally Shen Muyan’s turn, she pulled her cap lower, her expression slightly nervous.
“What would you like?” Lu Qin asked, raising his head.
He saw a female customer wearing a cap, her head lowered, showing only silky shoulder-length hair and a smooth, porcelain-like chin. Her figure, however, felt oddly familiar. Lu Qin squinted slightly and looked a second time.
“Three stir-fried noodles, mildly spicy, four iced mung bean smoothies, and all the limited items available.”
Her cool, clear voice instantly revealed her identity. Lu Qin was surprised for a moment but quickly composed himself. He decided to treat her as any other customer.
If Shen Muyan wanted to keep things low-key, he wouldn’t push the matter.
Guess my cooking won her over. Otherwise, why would a high-powered CEO personally stand in line?
While cooking, Lu Qin added extra noodles and ham to the stir-fried noodles, gave two extra mung bean smoothies, and doubled the portions of Ice Crystal Cake and Imperial Chicken Wings.
Noticing this, Shen Muyan paused briefly, then pressed her lips together without saying a word. The customers behind her, however, started to catch on.
“Hey, hey, what’s going on? Why does she get extra portions? Lu Boss, this isn’t fair!”
“Wait a minute, Lu Boss, why does this lady’s stir-fried noodles come in such a packed box? It’s about to burst! And weren’t the Ice Crystal Cake and Imperial Chicken Wings limited items? How come she gets extra?”
“Lu Boss, something’s off about you!”
“I’ve been buying food from you for so many days, thinking you were impartial, fair, and just. But now… boohoo, you’ve broken my heart!”
“There’ve been plenty of pretty women here before, and I’ve never seen you treat them differently. Oh, I get it now—it has to be a supermodel-level beauty. Nice eye, Lu Boss!”
“Turns out Lu Boss is just another guy after all…”
The customers erupted in a chorus of teasing remarks, their laughter filling the air. Shen Muyan’s pale cheeks flushed faintly red as she lowered the brim of her baseball cap even further. If it were strangers teasing her, her icy glare alone would’ve silenced them instantly.
But with Lu Qin standing so close—her ex-husband—it made her feel awkward and uneasy. The situation was peculiar and subtle, especially since she, the ex-wife, had willingly come to buy food from her ex-husband.
Just as Lu Qin opened his mouth to explain, a familiar figure suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
A hand lightly patted Shen Muyan’s shoulder, and a slightly out-of-breath voice exclaimed, “Whew! I almost had to run alongside a train to get here—it was so close!”
The newcomer grinned at Lu Qin, panting slightly.
“Lu Boss, I nearly lost my life for a taste of your food!”
Lu Qin handed her an iced mung bean smoothie with a smile.
“Thanks for the dedication. I’m honored.”
Fang Ya’s eyes lit up as she quickly grabbed the smoothie and started sipping. She gave Lu Qin a thumbs-up.
“You’re such a good man! Always so thoughtful.”
Their friendly chatter left Shen Muyan feeling even more awkward, standing there like an outsider. Noticing this, Fang Ya deliberately waved her smoothie in front of Shen Muyan, a playful smirk on her face.
“President Shen, don’t tell me you don’t have one of these?” She asked, her tone full of mischief, her eyes sparkling.
