Doki Doki: A God's Life In A World He Didn't Want To Be In

Chapter 2: How this world work's

Hikari floated in the air, pondering his next move. 'Where do I go when I want to relax?' he thought to himself, scanning the city below. Then, a familiar place caught his eye—a small café, tucked away on a quiet street.

"There it is," he muttered, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "That's where I used to go… but first." He paused, his expression darkening. "How strong was this version of me?"

He delved deeper into the memories of his new self, piecing together fragments of his past abilities. His brow furrowed, and a sense of disappointment settled in.

"You have to be kidding me," Hikari groaned, rubbing his temples. "This version of me was like Deku… but with Asta's energy. Always struggling, always pushing to catch up."

He shook his head in disbelief. "I was the Asta of this world. No magic at first, just brute willpower and endless effort to make up for the lack of power. Seriously?"

He couldn't help but feel annoyed. "Great. So, I'm stuck with a reputation of being the underdog who keeps charging forward like an idiot. No wonder I got stabbed." He huffed, irritated by the image of his past self.

Hikari sighed, tapping into his magic as he hovered a bit higher. "Well, that's going to change. I'm not playing the weakling in this story. I've got the power of a high-tier magic system now. No more trying to prove myself like some wannabe hero."

He started drifting toward the café. "Still, I can't believe I was just another version of those headstrong, never-give-up types. Asta's determination, Deku's idealism… It's honestly tiring just thinking about it."

As he floated down and landed softly outside the café, Hikari glanced at his reflection in the window. His emerald eyes, full of hope on the surface, felt more like a mockery now. "Hopeful on the outside, but a wreck on the inside," he muttered. "How fitting."

He pushed the door open and walked into the café, still mulling over the mess of his new identity.

Hikari stepped into the café, the familiar aroma of coffee and pastries filling the air. He glanced around, noticing the usual patrons smiling and waving at him as if nothing had changed. He gave a nod, forcing himself to blend in. Taking a seat near the window, he let out a soft sigh, still adjusting to the fact that this was now his life.

Before he could think too much, a soft voice interrupted his thoughts.

"So, the usual as always, Hikari?"

Hikari froze, his eyes widening for a moment as he looked up. Standing there, with a warm smile, was Yuri. She looked just like he remembered her from the game—purple hair cascading over her shoulders, her violet eyes gentle but observant.

He barely stopped himself from dropping his jaw in shock. "Yeah… sure, Yuri," he managed to say, keeping his voice steady, though internally he was still reeling.

'Okay… so Yuri works at this café now. This just keeps getting weirder,' he thought to himself. He quickly scanned through his memories again, trying to figure out the dynamic between him and Yuri in this world.

As Yuri jotted down his order and walked away, Hikari leaned back in his seat, still processing. 'This version of me must have known her well. Or maybe it's just another layer to this twisted world. Either way, things just got a whole lot more complicated.'

He kept his gaze on Yuri for a second longer, watching her interact with other customers. 'She's the same as in the game… but there's something different about her. I wonder how much she knows about me here.'

Hikari shook his head, chuckling to himself. "First This, now Yuri. What's next? Monika running the hero association?"

Hikari sighed, rubbing his temples as the absurdity of the situation weighed on him. "No way Monika could be running an association. She's a high schooler like me and the rest of the DDLC cast. What was my other self even thinking?"

He paused, diving back into his new memories, hoping to make sense of things. The fragments of his past life in this world began to piece together, and suddenly, something clicked that made him freeze.

"...You have to be shitting me," Hikari muttered, wide-eyed. "Other me… what were you thinking?"

Apparently, in this version of his life, Hikari had not only been obsessed with Monika but had also asked her to marry him—multiple times.

Hikari grimaced, feeling a mixture of second-hand embarrassment and confusion. "What kind of sister-lili shit is this?" he muttered under his breath, struggling to comprehend how his other self could have gone down that path.

He leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling. "I was out here proposing to Monika like I was some kind of lovesick idiot. No wonder I got stabbed. Maybe I deserved it," he mused sarcastically, shaking his head.

As much as Hikari wanted to roll his eyes at his past self's choices, the realization hit him—he was going to have to deal with these lingering relationships, and fast. Monika, Natsuki, Yuri… they were all part of his life now, whether he liked it or not.

Hikari sighed again, feeling the weight of this new world. "Great. I've got the baggage of a whole dating sim protagonist on top of everything else."

Hikari pulled out his phone, his curiosity piqued as he began searching for information about the hero system in this bizarre world. He navigated through various apps and web pages, trying to piece together how the hero system worked.

As he scrolled through the results, his expression grew more and more incredulous. "Let's see what this world's hero system is like," he muttered.

Finally, he found what he was looking for and his eyes widened in disbelief. "And there it fucking is," he said, his voice dripping with frustration. "The Wizard King title… given to the No. 1 hero."

He stared at the screen, seeing the various ranks and titles that made up the hero system. The Wizard King was at the top of the hierarchy, the highest accolade one could achieve. It was essentially the equivalent of being the number one hero in a world where magic was treated like quirks.

"Of course," he groaned, running a hand through his hair. "Just when I thought it couldn't get any more cliché. So, the top magical rank is the Wizard King. Fantastic."

Hikari gritted his teeth, feeling the weight of his new world's expectations pressing down on him. "Just perfect. Not only do I have to deal with being a wizard in a superhero society, but now I have to contend with this stupid title too."

He sighed, feeling a mix of annoyance and resignation. "Alright, if I'm stuck here, I might as well figure out how to navigate this ridiculous system. Maybe I'll even get that title someday—though I'm not sure if I care enough to try."

He put his phone away and looked around the café, a small, determined glint in his eyes. "Guess I've got a lot to learn. First, I'll start by understanding how this world operates, and then—if I'm feeling up to it—I might even see if I can shake things up a bit."

Hikari leaned back in his chair, ready to dive into this new world with a blend of skepticism and reluctant acceptance.

Yuri approached Hikari with his food, setting it down on the table with a warm, friendly smile. "Here you go, Hikari. Also, what you did today in school… was, um, something."

Hikari's face fell, his expression shifting to one of dread. "Yeah, um, it wasn't so bad, was it?" He braced himself, knowing full well that whatever Yuri was about to say was likely going to make him regret the actions of his other self.

Yuri hesitated for a moment, her eyes flickering with concern. "Well, you sort of… stood on top of a desk during math class and declared that you were going to become the next Wizard King. It caused quite a stir."

Hikari groaned inwardly, his cheeks burning with embarrassment. "Seriously? I did that?" He tried to manage a casual tone, though it was clear he was cringing internally.

Yuri nodded, a sympathetic smile on her face. "Yes. And then you challenged the teacher to a magical duel for extra credit. It was, um… memorable."

Hikari rubbed his temples, feeling the weight of his past self's ridiculous antics. "Great. Just great. I guess I should start learning how to blend in instead of making a spectacle of myself."

Yuri chuckled softly, trying to lighten the mood. "Don't worry too much. Everyone was talking about it, but it was mostly in good humor. Though, maybe try to keep the magical duels to a minimum?"

Hikari gave a small, forced smile. "I'll try my best. Thanks for letting me know."

As Yuri walked away, Hikari sighed deeply, taking a bite of his food. He realized he had a long road ahead if he wanted to navigate this world without attracting too much unwanted attention.

Hikari finished his meal, the food providing a small comfort amidst the chaos of his new life. As he ate, he continued to sift through his memories, trying to understand how the magic system in this world operated.

"So it's similar to the Overlord magic system," he mused, a hint of approval in his voice. "Gotta say, out of any magic system a world could be run by, this one is pretty impressive. The versatility and depth are just what I need."

He leaned back in his chair, contemplating further. "The other systems I'm familiar with are from 'The Beginning After The End.' I guess I should be grateful that this world's system isn't as convoluted or limiting."

Hikari reviewed the key aspects of the magic system. "In this world, magic is categorized into various schools and types, much like in Overlord. You've got elemental magic, summoning, enchantments, and more. It's flexible and powerful, which is a blessing."

He sighed, feeling a bit more at ease. "With this kind of magic at my disposal, I might actually be able to make some significant changes around here—if I can keep a low profile and not make a fool of myself every day."

He glanced at his surroundings, the café now a quiet refuge from the turbulence of his thoughts. "For now, I'll focus on mastering this magic and figuring out how to blend in. Maybe I can use this new power to navigate through my problems and, who knows, even turn things around for the better."

Hikari finished his food and decided to leave, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. "Time to start learning the ropes and figuring out how to make the most of this world's quirks and magic system. Let's see how this new life unfolds."

Hikari sighed, mentally preparing himself for the next challenge. "But first… oh boy, time to meet with my family. Hope they don't notice anything different."

He stood up, leaving the café and heading towards his family's home. The familiar route felt strangely surreal now that he was in this new version of his life. He couldn't shake the feeling of unease as he approached the door.

Taking a deep breath, Hikari opened the door and walked inside. The warm, cozy atmosphere of the house was a stark contrast to his internal turmoil. His mother, father, and older sister Hakuro were gathered in the living room.

"Welcome home, Hikari!" his mother called out with a cheerful smile.

"Hey, Mom," Hikari said, forcing a smile as he walked in.

Hakuro looked up from a book she was reading, her expression a mix of curiosity and surprise. "You're back early. How was school?"

"It was… eventful," Hikari replied, trying to sound as normal as possible. "I had a bit of a… moment today."

His father, sitting comfortably in his armchair, raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Anything we should know about?"

Hikari's mind raced, trying to come up with a plausible explanation. "Just some unexpected events. Nothing too serious."

Hakuro seemed to sense something off but didn't press the issue. "Well, I'm glad you're home. We've got dinner almost ready."

As the family settled around the dinner table, Hikari did his best to engage in normal conversation and keep his thoughts from drifting to his bizarre new reality. Despite his efforts, he couldn't help but feel that his past actions and current situation were creating a subtle but palpable tension.

Throughout dinner, he carefully observed his family, trying to gauge if they noticed any difference in him. The conversation flowed, and his family seemed to accept his presence without any real concern.

After dinner, Hikari excused himself, retreating to his room for some solitude. "So far, so good," he thought. "They didn't seem to pick up on anything too unusual. But I need to stay sharp and be careful with my interactions."

He sat on his bed, reflecting on the evening. "Navigating this new life while maintaining the semblance of normalcy is going to be tricky. But if I'm careful and stay under the radar, I might just make it work."

With that thought, Hikari began planning his next steps, determined to make the most of his new circumstances while keeping his true self hidden from those around him.
