Doomsday: My Football System In The Apocalypse

Chapter 2: Awakening Ceremony

A grand event was taking place today in Nara City, an event that brought all the powerful people in the world together in one place every year.

It was the Awakening Ceremony—an event where young people of a certain age were given special powers and celebrated. It was a grand occasion that held a special place in the heart of humanity and determined the future of the world. They did not take it lightly.

This event was born out of an unforgettable phenomenon that occurred on Earth a century ago. Something descended upon the planet—something that made people believe the world might be ending.

It happened in the heart of Nara City a hundred years ago. A strange white pagoda suddenly appeared out of nowhere, suspended in mid-air below the sky. The white pagoda hung there for several days, planting fear in the hearts of people, who believed the end of the world was near. Countless rockets were launched at it by the elite scientists of the world in an attempt to explore it, but none succeeded—they all vanished before reaching the pagoda.

Eventually, the pagoda descended slowly, finally landing in the heart of Nara City. Scientists from around the world were dispatched to explore it, and to everyone's surprise, they discovered that the pagoda posed no threat to Earth.

In fact, the pagoda brought greatness.

Inside, the scientists discovered a large divine rock after thorough exploration. Through extensive experiments, they found this divine rock held unimaginable power. Powers that defied the very basics of life, went against the norms of the world, and had the potential to reshape humanity's fate entirely.

These powers could be extracted, used, and even transferred to others through rituals performed with the tower.

At first, the advent of the divine rock led to chaos. People and groups fought to gain control over the tower, granting its powers to those they favored. Wars erupted. People in Nara City fought among themselves, while other cities waged war to claim Nara City and the tower.

However, a chilling revelation brought an end to the madness. It was made by the monks and shamans—powerful individuals who had existed before the pagoda's descent.

They warned that nothing in this world was free, and that everything came at a cost.

The monks revealed that in the distant future, something similar to the pagoda would descend again. But this time, it wouldn't bring greatness. It would bring destruction, ruin, and death, unleashing dangerous creatures that would threaten humanity's very existence.

This forewarned entity was named Deathspawn.

Fearing this future, humanity united. All the cities on Earth came together to prepare. They constructed a massive artificial tower around the great pagoda and named it The Heavenly Tower.

It was declared mandatory for the world's powerful individuals and governments to gather annually in this tower to celebrate the awakening of young people receiving their powers, as these youths were seen as humanity's hope for survival.

No one knew when the prophecy of Deathspawn would come true. But until that day, the awakening ceremony became a sacred tradition.

Nara City was declared the capital of Earth, as the Heavenly Tower was located there and the world's strongest individuals resided within the city. Every year, government officials and representatives of the great families from all over the world came to Nara City to witness the next generation awaken their powers.

And today was that day.

"I wonder what power I'll get. I hope it's something that improves my football skills,"

Emmy said, unable to contain his excitement.

He sat among the crowd, his brother Sunny beside him, both watching a bald-headed man giving a speech from the raised platform. The man was one of the most powerful individuals on Earth.

"I hope you awaken a power like mine,"

Sunny said, his eyes never leaving the man on stage.

On the platform, 35 individuals sat to the left. These were government officials from the five major cities of Earth, as well as representatives of the great families. They were the ones in charge of the awakening ceremony.

Directly in front of the platform stood a white altar that radiated brightly, filling the hall with an almost divine aura.

The Hall of the Heavenly Tower was enormous, large enough to hold thousands. Today, it was packed to capacity.

Apart from the dignitaries on stage, there was another section at the front of the hall reserved for the young awakeners—several hundred youths from all over the world. Their relatives sat in the crowd behind them.

"Hell no, not your useless ability. I don't want that,"

Emmy replied to his brother. Though he was among the awakeners, he had chosen to sit with his brother until it was his turn.

"What do you know, my ability is just at the level two, how dare you say it's useless."

Sunny retorted, his eyes narrowing in frustration.

"That's exactly my point. You awakened two years ago and are still stuck at Level Two. It sucks, man. You should forget about your ability and focus on martial arts instead. Look at the people you awakened with—they're all doing better than you now."

"Shut up, brat. Do you even know how hard it is to master an ability no one in the world knows about? And without a manual to guide me!"

Emmy smirked but said nothing further, he enjoy teasing his brother with his ability.

Suddenly, the bald-headed man stepped off the platform, and a woman replaced him. Her voice boomed through the hall, amplified by some unseen power, sending shivers down Emmy's spine.

"Congratulations in advance to all the young awakeners present here,"

She began.

"As you all know, this awakening ceremony is vital to our survival and a cornerstone of humanity's future. I won't waste time repeating what others have said. Let us proceed to the main event."

"Let the awakening of the younger generation begin!"

The woman stepped down, and an old man emerged from behind the platform, holding a small mechanical device. He approached the white altar, closed his eyes for a moment, and then activated the device.

A faint white glow appeared on the device, spreading to the platform before enveloping it entirely in a radiant light. The platform split open, and from within emerged a large, rough, spherical object. It gleamed with a sleek, white shine and radiated an intense energy that filled the hall.

The atmosphere shifted immediately.

The dignitaries on stage remained unfazed, but the same could not be said for the crowd and the awakeners. Some felt nauseated; others had an overwhelming urge to run to the altar and embrace the object. The feeling was suffocating and eerie.

Thankfully, it didn't last long. The radiance around the altar abruptly vanished, and with it, the oppressive sensation.

"I never expected the divine rock's aura to be this powerful,"

Emmy said, coughing as sweat poured down his face. He was on his knees, as were many of the young people around him.

Sunny wiped his own forehead, glancing at his brother.

"I told you it would feel like this. You thought you could handle it, huh?"

Emmy didn't reply but threw his brother a quick glance before returning to his seat. He had underestimated the divine rock's power, dismissing Sunny's warnings as exaggerations.

The old man on the altar addressed the young awakeners:

"Now, I will call your names as registered. When you hear your name, step forward to perform the awakening ritual."

The first name called was a young girl. Emmy didn't know her, but he was captivated by her beauty. She had an apple-shaped face, wide eyes, a pointed nose, pale skin, and long, flowing black hair.

"Wow, she's gorgeous,"

Emmy whispered, his eyes glinting with admiration.

"Don't even think about it. Alice will roast you alive,"

Sunny muttered.

"Hey, I never liked her, you're the who should build your confidence and tell her your feelings. She like me but I didn't like her."

Emmy replied.

"You bastard, how dare you say such a thing. Hypocrite, you always warned me not to get close to her."

His brother retorted, his hand pointed at him.

Emmy rolled his eyes but said nothing. Instead, he smile watched the girl perform the ritual, mesmerized.

The process was simple but profound. She knelt on the white altar before the divine rock, bowing three times. The old man handed her a small knife, which she used to slash her finger. A drop of her blood fell onto the altar, and moments later, the divine rock emitted a bright radiance that enveloped her entirely.

As the light lifted her off the ground, her body seemed to undergo a transformation. After 30 seconds, the light receded, returning her to the altar—but she was changed.

Her black hair had turned silvery, gleaming brilliantly under the hall's light.

The girl had awakened her ability.
