Doraemon: Reborn As Dekisugi

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Diary Exchange {Part 1}

"Okay! Two hundred yuan for the original takoyaki, come and get it!"

The middle-aged man with a white headband handed the takoyaki to Dekisugi. Dekisugi, having already prepared for this moment, took out a 1,000 yen note and handed it over. Of course, to make sure he had enough, Dekisugi pulled out seven or eight 1,000 yen notes from his pocket, all of which were readily accepted by the vendor.

Shizuka, who had been walking with him, glanced at the transaction, noticing how much money Dekisugi was carrying. Nobita, who was following them secretly, saw it too. His jealousy was simmering beneath the surface.

"Arigato," Shizuka said with a smile, looking at Dekisugi. She then raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "You have quite a bit of money, Dekisugi. Have you been saving up for something?"

Dekisugi scratched his head awkwardly. "Well, it's just that I don't spend much. I save my pocket money every month, so it adds up over time. It's been about a year, I guess. And, well, being stuck at home can get boring, so I thought I'd go out and get a snack."

He smiled sheepishly at Shizuka, though in truth, he felt a bit strange spending money that wasn't entirely his. The money wasn't from his own savings, and he couldn't help but feel a little guilty about it. Still, he didn't think too much about it.

Meanwhile, Nobita, still lurking behind them, was quietly fuming with jealousy. He couldn't believe Dekisugi was so close to Shizuka, eating takoyaki together like that. "Shizuka's supposed to be my wife!" he thought bitterly. But Nobita kept quiet, too afraid to confront them directly. He could only follow silently, fuming with each passing moment.

As they continued walking, Dekisugi and Shizuka chatted and laughed, sharing stories about their school day and things they found interesting. Nobita, trailing behind them, muttered to himself in frustration. He was trying to make sense of what was happening, his mind clouded by jealousy.

"By the way, Dekisugi," Shizuka suddenly said between bites of her takoyaki. "You mentioned before that you keep a diary every day, right?"

"Yeah, I do," Dekisugi replied, surprised by the question. He thought back to the habit the original body had developed over the past year. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Why do you ask, Shizuka?"

Shizuka's face flushed slightly as she looked at him with a shy but curious expression. "I keep a diary too! How about... we exchange diaries?" she suggested, her voice barely above a whisper.

Dekisugi blinked, stunned. Why would Shizuka want to read my diary? he wondered, feeling a bit embarrassed. It was a strange request, and yet, he couldn't help but feel a little excited about the idea of sharing something so personal with her.

"Eh… Well, if you really want to see it, I can show it to you tomorrow," he stammered, trying to play it cool. "It's not that interesting, though. I'll bring it over tomorrow." He smiled, trying to ease the awkwardness, but inside, his mind raced. Why does she want to exchange diaries?

Shizuka's eyes sparkled with excitement as she nodded. "I can't wait!" She was thrilled at the idea, though part of her was still shy about asking for something so personal. But curiosity had won out over her shyness.

At that moment, as they walked together, Nobita, who had been listening to their conversation from behind, could no longer hold back his emotions. Hearing the words "exchange diaries" felt like a punch to the gut. His jealousy boiled over, and before either of them could react, he shouted, "What?! Shizuka wants to exchange diaries with him?!"

Shizuka turned around in surprise, her eyes wide. "Huh? What's wrong with Nobita?" she asked, confused by his outburst.

Nobita, his face red with anger and tears, pointed accusingly at Dekisugi and Shizuka. "I never knew you two were so close! This isn't fair!" he cried dramatically, his voice cracking with emotion.

Dekisugi sighed, shaking his head. He had always known Nobita had a soft spot for Shizuka, but this level of jealousy was a bit much. "I don't know what's going on with him," Dekisugi said to Shizuka with a helpless smile, trying to defuse the tension.

Shizuka frowned, concerned. "Do you think he's okay? Could it be that Jaian and Suneo were bothering him again?"

Dekisugi chuckled softly. "I don't think it's that. I think he just needs to figure things out on his own."

Nobita, still wiping away his tears, ran off in the opposite direction, his cries of "Doraemon, I need your help!" fading into the distance. Dekisugi and Shizuka exchanged a glance before laughing at the absurdity of the situation.

Shizuka turned back to Dekisugi, still not quite sure what had just happened. "I didn't realize Nobita was so upset... He really is funny sometimes."

Dekisugi smiled and nodded. "Yeah, he's a handful." He didn't feel the need to explain too much. After all, Nobita was just a kid who needed to learn to deal with his feelings on his own.

Shizuka waved goodbye and started walking toward her home, while Dekisugi watched her leave, his mind momentarily distracted by the weirdness of the whole situation. As for Nobita, Dekisugi had no idea what kind of trouble he would cause next. But for now, he didn't feel the need to worry too much.

He rubbed his stomach. Despite eating a box of takoyaki, he was still a bit hungry. "Maybe I'll head home and warm up some food," Dekisugi thought, feeling a little satisfied with the day's events. He had managed to avoid any real conflict and still had time to relax and think about the strange request Shizuka had made.

Tomorrow, he would bring her the diary. But for now, he was content.
