Douluo Dalu: Nahida the Saint of the Spirit Halls

Chapter 2: Are you Willing to Be My Disciple?

After Su Chen brought Ling Chang'e to the Spirit Hall in Wuhun City and explained their purpose, Ling Chang'e followed her towards the Pope's Palace.

Starting from the Holy Angel Mountain in Wuhun City and climbing up its winding path, the Pope's Palace stood halfway up the mountain, a symbol of the glory and authority of the Spirit Hall. Its towering presence was a beacon of power and devotion, drawing soul masters from across the Douluo Continent to pay homage. The Pope, the supreme leader of the Spirit Hall, embodied its will and was revered as a figure of faith and power among countless soul masters.

Led by Su Chen, Ling Chang'e arrived at the grand doors of the Pope's Palace. The tall, ornate structure loomed before them, its intricate carvings depicting scenes of divine martial spirits and legendary battles. The cardinal pushed the heavy doors open, revealing the palace's interior.

Despite its magnificent exterior, the inside of the Pope's Palace was strikingly modest. The vast hall was lined with polished marble, so pristine that their reflections shimmered on the floor. At the far end, a throne sat elevated, drawing all eyes to the figure seated upon it.

There, on the throne, sat a woman whose presence radiated majesty. Her rose-red hair cascaded down her back, and the nine-curve purple-gold crown on her head glittered with an otherworldly brilliance. Her rose-red eyes, sharp and discerning, gazed at the newcomers, and her flawless complexion only accentuated her regal beauty. She wore a long, flowing red dress, her poised and elegant demeanor exuding unparalleled nobility.

She was Bibi Dong, the Pope of the Spirit Hall.

"Su Chen Greets Her Majesty the Pope!"

The cardinal immediately knelt on the ground, and Ling Chang'e followed suit, dropping to one knee. She kept her head bowed low, knowing her place and the immense power that Bibi Dong wielded. A single misstep could spell her doom.

"Raise your head," a noble and cold voice commanded from the throne.

Ling Chang'e's scalp tingled as the oppressive majesty of the Titled Douluo washed over her. Slowly, she raised her head, her black eyes meeting Bibi Dong's rose-red gaze. Her short and somewhat frail figure was reflected in those sharp, penetrating eyes, making her acutely aware of the vast gulf between them.

"You are the child with a humanoid martial soul and innate full soul power." Bibi Dong's voice was calm, yet it carried an undeniable authority. "Show me your martial spirit."

Ling Chang'e took a deep breath, suppressing her nervousness.

She summoned her martial spirit, and a transparent, silver-haired loli materialized in front of them. Her green eyes, which seemed to pierce through all things, momentarily flickered with an otherworldly light.

Bibi Dong's brows furrowed slightly as she observed the humanoid martial spirit, her expression flickering with a complex mix of emotions before settling into her usual composure.

"Good," Bibi Dong said, standing gracefully. The movement of her red dress emphasized her slender figure. In the blink of an eye, she appeared before Ling Chang'e, her presence even more overwhelming up close. "This martial spirit looks unusual."

She examined the figure of the humanoid martial spirit intently. The clarity of its features and the ethereal presence it exuded were rare, even among humanoid spirits. It reminded Bibi Dong of the six-winged angel martial soul of the Qian family—a god-level martial soul, albeit distinct from this one.

"What is your martial spirit called?" Bibi Dong's rose-red eyes remained fixed on the silver-haired figure.

Ling Chang'e hesitated, her heart racing. Finally, she whispered, "Dendro God."

The name caused a flicker of surprise in Bibi Dong's eyes. "Dendro God? An unusual name for an unusual martial spirit," she mused, her voice calm but carrying a hint of intrigue.

Ling Chang'e's palms grew clammy as she worried about the implications of the name. She feared offending the Pope with something so bold, yet Bibi Dong's next words startled her.

"I want to see what your martial spirit can do," Bibi Dong said gently, her voice softening.

"But, you lack a spirit ring right now, so you cannot fully utilize its power. But its appearance alone is enough to show its potential." She paused, then added, "Would you like to become my apprentice?"

Ling Chang'e's eyes widened in shock.

"I have only one disciple now, Hu Liena, who is older than you. If you accept, you will become the Saint of the Pope's Palace."

Before Ling Chang'e could formulate a response, a chilling voice interrupted, "Your Holiness, you have overstepped your bounds."

A man with long silver hair appeared beside Ling Changge. His sharp features were striking, though his left eye was concealed by a layer of frost. Dressed in a white robe with arms covered in blue ice, his cold gaze locked onto Bibi Dong.

"The great priest has ordered me to take this girl," the man said flatly.

Bibi Dong's expression turned frosty. "She is my disciple now. The Worship Hall has no authority here."

"She has yet to agree," the man countered. "According to the rules established by the Spirit Hall's founders, the owner of a humanoid martial soul must belong to the Worship Hall."

A tense silence filled the air as Bibi Dong gripped her scepter tightly. Finally, she turned away, her voice cold. "If that's the case, I won't force it."

Before Ling Chang'e could react, the man's cold hands lifted her. In an instant, the scenery around her blurred as they sped away, leaving the Pope's Palace behind. The journey ended in the grand Worship Hall, leaving Ling Chang'e disoriented and nauseous, her heart pounding as she tried to grasp what had just happened.
