Douluo Dalu: Qian Renxue's Younger Brother

Chapter 196: 192. I Was Mentally Immature

Qian Renjue looked curiously at the young girl in front of him.

Ye Lingling still had her blue hair and blue eyes, with her delicate face and graceful eyebrows.

However, what confused Qian Renjue was that Ye Lingling's attire was very different from her usual style.

Her white dress tightly hugged her waist, and although the fabric was smooth and proper, the front area was quite revealing.

It appeared to be made of a thin layer of white gauze in a fan shape, through which her fair skin was faintly visible, seemingly blushing at the moment.

Given Ye Lingling's age, she only had a slight curve, which could barely be called a hint of cleavage, just slightly exposed.

Her ears turned red, and she kept her hand over the gauze area in embarrassment.

Below her slim waist, she wore a short white skirt made of many fine, vertical pleats, reaching her knees.

Her slender legs were wrapped in white stockings, and she wore small, delicate boots.

Overall, she looked fresh, elegant, and graceful.

Facing Qian Renjue's surprised gaze, Ye Lingling felt incredibly embarrassed.

She held her chest and crossed her legs, feeling a sense of shame.

In truth, she had regretted her outfit as soon as she left her house.

The front of her dress felt too open, and now, standing here, she regretted it even more.

She should have found a more reliable advisor.

Even Yanyan would've given better advice than her own mother, who had made her wear this "good outfit" that she herself wanted to wear but never dared to.

It made her look like she was trying to seduce someone.

In just a moment, Qian Renjue withdrew his curious gaze.

"Miss Ye, please come in."

"Mm, thank you..."

Ye Lingling bit her lip softly, her face blushing under her veil.

Her dull eyes now showed a hint of shyness.

Seeing Qian Renjue step aside, she quickly entered the room with some nervousness.

After closing the door, Ye Lingling felt even more uncomfortable.

Qian Renjue scratched his head and turned to look at the stiff Ye Lingling standing there.

Strangely enough, he no longer felt so nervous himself.

"Miss Ye, would you prefer to sit here or on the sofa?"

Qian Renjue asked softly.

"I'll sit here."

Ye Lingling forced herself to stay calm and quickly sat down by the dining table nearby.

"Alright."

Qian Renjue sat down diagonally across from her, ensuring he could reach her if needed.

He took the teapot he had inspected earlier and poured himself some hot tea. Then he turned to Ye Lingling and asked:

"Miss Ye, are you feeling hot?"

"Mm."

Ye Lingling tugged at her dress and nodded slightly.

She nervously explained her appearance, though it was a bit self-deceptive.

"I... I'm hot, that's why I'm dressed like this."

"…"

Qian Renjue was momentarily stunned before quickly understanding that she was referring to her outfit.

Even though Qian Renjue didn't have much experience, he knew that it was never wrong to compliment someone in this situation.

He looked up at Ye Lingling.

Despite her veil, her beauty was undeniable. He nodded slightly and softly praised her:

"Mm, you look very beautiful."

Hm?

Ye Lingling looked up at Qian Renjue, a bit surprised.

Could it be, just as her mother had said, that Qian Renjue liked girls who dressed like this?

No, that didn't seem right!

Ye Lingling quickly realized something.

She had worn a veil this whole time, so how could he even know if she was beautiful?

The compliment was probably just him being polite, not wanting to embarrass her.

"Thank you."

Ye Lingling thanked him gently, and much of her earlier embarrassment had dissipated.

She was no longer constantly lowered her head

Only then did Qian Renjue notice that her sky-blue eyes no longer had the emptiness they once held.

Perhaps it was a change after her martial soul was freed.

Qian Renjue slightly chilled the hot tea he had poured and let the heat turn into a refreshing coolness.

He gently pushed the cup toward Ye Lingling and said kindly:

"Miss Ye, please have some tea and calm yourself. I mean no harm to you."

"I know."

Ye Lingling nodded.

She removed her hand from her chest and picked up the cool cup of tea.

The coldness from the cup helped clear her somewhat muddled thoughts.

Qian Renjue said nothing more, waiting patiently for Ye Lingling to calm down, just as he had in the past two years.

Ye Lingling sipped the cool tea slowly.

As the cool liquid spread through her body, her mind and body finally felt less flustered.

She quietly lifted her face and looked at the boy sitting not far away. He was still as peaceful and warm as ever.

He wore a purple robe embroidered with gold and silver threads.

His golden hair fell over his shoulders, and his features were sharp and dignified.

His calm, refined demeanor occasionally carried a touch of authority.

He seemed to be thinking about what to say. His thin lips, neither too harsh nor too soft, formed a gentle curve and moved slightly.

Noticing his gaze, Ye Lingling lowered her long lashes and continued sipping her tea.

She, too, had her own thoughts—ones that had troubled her for a long time.

The two of them remained silent, their breathing steady, their minds clear.

"Miss Ye, we…"

Just as Qian Renjue opened his mouth, seeing that the color in Ye Lingling's eyes had returned, she interrupted him.

Her curiosity got the better of her.

"Your Highness, why didn't you ever reply to my letters?"

"…"

Qian Renjue was taken aback. His carefully prepared words were thrown out the window.

He looked at Ye Lingling's eyes, which now held a hint of grievance, and felt an inexplicable pressure.

"Did I say something wrong? Or is there… something else?"

Ye Lingling gazed at Qian Renjue, her hands no longer covering her chest, but rather gripping the edge of the table in nervous anticipation.

She was worried about hearing something she didn't want to hear.

"You didn't say anything wrong."

Qian Renjue quickly reassured her. Then, somewhat awkwardly, he explained truthfully:

"I just thought that at the time, you were still too young... and maybe... not fully mature yet."

"You... what did you say?!"

Ye Lingling's blue eyes widened in surprise.

She had thought he simply didn't know how to write letters, but now she realized it wasn't that at all—he just didn't know how to speak!

"No! I mean mentally, mentally immature!"

Qian Renjue hurriedly corrected himself, including himself in the explanation.

"And me too! I was the same back then!"

"…"

Ye Lingling fell silent, pressing her lips together, almost on the verge of laughing.

What was this? Was he insulting her and then himself to make it even?

As strange as it was, such behaviour couldnt provoke anger from others

Ye Lingling held back a smile. She wasn't upset, but her voice was clear as she asked:

"So, was it because your mind wasn't fully developed that you didn't know how to reply?"

"Me?!"

Qian Renjue stared at her in surprise. He hadn't expected her to speak to him like this.

Then, recalling her previous letters, filled with corrections and scribbles, he suddenly felt at ease.

It seemed that deep down, Ye Lingling wasn't as distant or withdrawn as she appeared on the surface.

Qian Renjue gently nodded.

"You could say that."

"…"

Ye Lingling's lips couldn't help but curl into a small smile.

The tension she had felt earlier vanished, and the grievance in her heart dissipated, replaced by a growing sense of fondness.

The high and mighty Holy Son, the one her grandfather had chosen as her partner, didn't seem as unapproachable as she had imagined.
