Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Mu Chen’s Challenge Letter
In Spirit Hall's Pope Palace...
"Pope, you've completed your seclusion?" Chrysanthemum Douluo's face lit up with joy upon seeing Bibi Dong.
"Yes," Bibi Dong replied, seated high above them, casting a commanding gaze over Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo.
"Congratulations, Your Holiness, on passing the seventh trial of the Rakshasa God," Chrysanthemum Douluo said respectfully, bowing before her.
"Congratulations, Your Holiness," Ghost Douluo followed suit, also bowing deeply.
"Rise, there's no need for so much ceremony," Bibi Dong's voice was calm, though a trace of satisfaction lingered in her smile.
The difference between a god and a mortal was substantial. The Rakshasa God had nine trials, and upon completing them, Bibi Dong would inherit the full power of a deity. In her mind, once that happened, no one on the continent would be able to stand against her.
"Thank you, Your Holiness."
"Thank you, Your Holiness."
Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo stood, their demeanor respectful.
"How did it go?" Bibi Dong asked, her gaze focusing on Ghost Douluo's disheveled appearance. Noticing he wasn't critically injured, she let out a small sigh of relief.
"Your Holiness, the mission failed," Chrysanthemum Douluo replied.
"Failed?" Bibi Dong's brow furrowed.
"The mission failed, and I am willing to accept any punishment," Chrysanthemum Douluo knelt, and Ghost Douluo followed suit.
"Failed? How could it have failed? Weren't Gu Rong, Chen Xin, and Ning Fengzhi the only powerful opponents on their side? With the two of you and over four thousand spirit masters, how could this mission possibly fail?" Bibi Dong questioned, visibly puzzled.
She had sent Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo specifically because she was mindful of Gu Rong, Chen Xin, and Ning Fengzhi's presence. Even if those three intervened, Spirit Hall should not have lost so decisively.
"They did not intervene," Chrysanthemum Douluo responded.
"If they didn't intervene, how could the mission have failed? Ten Spirit Douluos, forty-nine Spirit Saints, and over four thousand spirit masters—how could this have resulted in failure? Yue Guan, Gui Mei, I demand an explanation," Bibi Dong said sternly.
"Your Holiness, I didn't support this mission from the beginning. The opponent's strength far exceeded our expectations. The spirit masters you sent out—only about twenty returned," Chrysanthemum Douluo stated.
"What?" Bibi Dong's face turned livid as she rose from her seat in fury. "Are you saying the mission not only failed but almost resulted in total annihilation?"
"Yes, Your Holiness," Chrysanthemum Douluo replied with a subtle hint of irony.
"They didn't intervene... Did they all just decide to throw their lives away?" Bibi Dong's anger flared, her hair swirling around her in a display of power. It was the first time since becoming the Pope that she had shown such a severe outburst.
Over four thousand spirit masters, and only around twenty returned.
Neither Chrysanthemum Douluo nor Ghost Douluo dared to respond, deeply unsettled by her wrath.
"Explain. What exactly happened? Did Tang Hao interfere?" Bibi Dong's expression darkened as she considered this possibility. If Tang Hao had intervened, such a devastating loss would indeed be understandable.
"Your Holiness, Tang Hao did not appear. The explanation is simple: the spirit masters we sent out were defeated by the Shrek Eleven," Chrysanthemum Douluo replied.
"You mean the children representing Shrek Academy in the tournament?" Bibi Dong interrupted, incredulity lacing her voice.
"Yes," Chrysanthemum Douluo confirmed.
"That's impossible. Absolutely impossible. They're just children. How could they possibly have killed so many spirit masters?" Bibi Dong challenged, refusing to believe it.
"Your Holiness, there's nothing impossible about it. The truth is undeniable; our forces fell at the hands of those eleven youths. They've even established a faction called the Tang Sect, led by a boy named Mu Chen, who has already reached the level of Titled Douluo," Chrysanthemum Douluo explained.
"A Titled Douluo?" Bibi Dong's smile twisted. "If I recall correctly, the report from Salas mentioned that this Mu Chen was only thirteen years old, didn't it?"
The very idea seemed laughable—thirteen, and already a Titled Douluo. Not even training from birth could achieve that before adulthood.
"Your Holiness, as unbelievable as it sounds, it's the truth. The wounds you see on Ghost Douluo are from Mu Chen himself," Chrysanthemum Douluo gestured to his colleague, whose armor was shattered and whose face was streaked with blood.
"Is that so?" Bibi Dong's face grew stern as she looked toward Ghost Douluo for confirmation.
"Yes, Your Holiness," Ghost Douluo confirmed, nodding grimly.
Bibi Dong cast her gaze back and forth between Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo, her expression becoming even more severe. The idea that a mere thirteen-year-old could not only become a Titled Douluo but also defeat Ghost Douluo, a level 95 Titled Douluo, was almost beyond belief.
Yet, with both Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo confirming it, Bibi Dong could not dismiss the report. This Mu Chen, much like Tang Hao before him, posed a genuine threat to Spirit Hall's dominion.
"What about his spirit rings? And his spirit abilities?" Bibi Dong asked intently. If she wanted to either recruit or eliminate this threat, she needed every piece of information available.
"He has nine rings in total, with the colors black, black, black, black, black, red, red, red, and red. The last two rings exceed two hundred thousand years," Chrysanthemum Douluo reported.
"You're sure?" Bibi Dong's face darkened further. Even with her dual spirits, she couldn't compare in terms of spirit rings alone.
"Yes, I'm certain," Chrysanthemum Douluo affirmed.
Bibi Dong turned to Ghost Douluo for confirmation, and he nodded as well.
"And his abilities? What do we know about them?" Bibi Dong continued.
"His fifth ability, Thunder Fury, summons devastating lightning. His seventh ability, Chaos Avatar, not only merges him with his sword but also grants him a technique similar to Sword Douluo's 'Myriad Sword Convergence.' His eighth ability, Piercing Radiance, is reportedly his sole defensive technique, capable of creating a powerful sphere of light around him. It was his ninth ability that broke through and overpowered Ghost Douluo's own ninth technique," Chrysanthemum Douluo provided a thorough summary.
"Is that all?" Bibi Dong pressed further.
"That's all we know. In most encounters, he defeats his opponents without even summoning his spirit," Chrysanthemum Douluo concluded.
Bibi Dong fell silent, her brows furrowing deeply.
For Mu Chen to have defeated Ghost Douluo and even left him injured… Even with her strength, Bibi Dong wasn't confident she could best him in combat. It would likely require an intervention from the Elder Hall to subdue him.
"Your Holiness, there is one more matter," Chrysanthemum Douluo added.
"Go on," Bibi Dong prompted.
"Your Holiness, Mu Chen left a message for you," Chrysanthemum Douluo said.
"A message?" Bibi Dong's interest piqued. "Where is it?"
"Outside the hall," Chrysanthemum Douluo responded.
"Bring it to me," Bibi Dong commanded.
"Let them enter," Chrysanthemum Douluo called out, his voice carrying to the hall's entrance.
As Bibi Dong watched curiously, several injured Spirit Hall soul masters entered.
"Show your backs," Chrysanthemum Douluo instructed.
Following his command, the soul masters removed their robes, revealing their bare backs. Bibi Dong's eyes widened in surprise; etched in deep sword marks on each of their backs was a single large character.
The characters, strung toget
her, formed a message.
"Bibi Dong, do you dare face me in battle? Midnight at Fallen Phoenix Hill. I'll be waiting."
