Chapter 62: Chapter 62: A Reward Delivered to Your Doorstep
"What?!"
"What?!"
"What?!"
Not only Meng Yiran, but everyone else looked at Xiao Wu in astonishment. It was clear that there was mutual affection between Xiao Wu and Mu Chen, yet Xiao Wu suggested that if Meng Yiran lost, she would have to kiss Mu Chen.
Wow, was Xiao Wu actually helping Mu Chen pursue a girl?
"Well, what's it going to be? Are you scared?" Xiao Wu asked.
Xiao Wu knew that Mu Chen once mentioned Meng Yiran was quite attractive. In her mind, Mu Chen should have an interest in Meng Yiran. With Meng Yiran's talent, looks, and impressive background, Xiao Wu wouldn't mind if they became sisters.
"Alright, it's decided," Long Gong interjected.
"Grandpa?" Meng Yiran looked at Long Gong in surprise.
"Young people need a bit of passion! Now, let's get started!" Long Gong said, casting a knowing glance at Mu Chen.
"What are you plotting, old man?" Snake Granny whispered to Long Gong, her eyes darting between him and Mu Chen. Did she suspect that her old friend wanted Mu Chen to become his granddaughter's husband?
"Say, how do you want to compete?" Mu Chen asked.
Mu Chen was aware that he had a D-level task regarding Meng Yiran.
With a confident smile, Meng Yiran took out thirty-two Soul Breaking Knives from her storage soul tool. "I have thirty-two Soul Breaking Knives here. We'll each use sixteen. I will have my grandpa shake a tree twenty meters away. When the leaves fall, we will both throw our knives at them. The one who hits more leaves wins. No matter how many leaves are hit, the knives must stay embedded in the tree, or it doesn't count."
"Boss Mu, let me take this one!" Tang San offered eagerly. He believed that if he faced Meng Yiran, he could easily defeat her.
Given Meng Yiran's confidence, Tang San thought she must have practiced for a long time, intending to embarrass Mu Chen.
During their time at the Nodding City Primary Soul Master Academy, Tang San and Mu Chen had shared a dorm. Tang San knew that Mu Chen had never trained with hidden weapons before. If he faced Meng Yiran in this competition, his chances of losing were high, which is why he volunteered to fight.
"No need," Mu Chen raised his hand, declining Tang San's offer.
"Boss Mu, this is about my third soul ring," Tang San reminded him, his words clearly reflecting his lack of confidence in Mu Chen.
"Don't worry, your soul ring isn't going anywhere," Mu Chen assured him.
"You just fought a battle; do you want to rest first? I don't want to hear you say I bullied you," Meng Yiran asked.
"No need. Give me the Soul Breaking Knives; we can start now," Mu Chen extended his hand to take the sixteen knives from her.
"Elder, you might be underestimating things!" Snake Granny remarked knowingly. She was well aware of her granddaughter's capabilities. Comparing Meng Yiran to Mu Chen, she thought it would be a tough match for him.
"I'm not so sure; this kid seems overly confident and appears to have it under control. Are you both ready?" Long Gong asked.
"Mm."
"Mm."
Both Meng Yiran and Mu Chen nodded simultaneously.
*Boom!*
Seeing this, Long Gong slammed his staff into the ground. A shockwave radiated outward, shaking a tree twenty meters away, causing countless leaves to fall.
*Whoosh!*
Meng Yiran was the first to act. She unleashed her sixteen Soul Breaking Knives in succession. Each knife struck a falling leaf, embedding itself in the tree trunk.
"Hmph!"
Meng Yiran grinned confidently and looked at Mu Chen, taunting, "Aren't you going to throw yours?"
"No, I've already thrown mine," Mu Chen replied with a smile.
"What?" Meng Yiran was taken aback, surprised that someone could throw faster than her!
"Impressive! Impressive! Truly impressive!" Long Gong exclaimed.
"Boss Mu's skill with hidden weapons is absolutely terrifying!" Dai Mubai exclaimed, his eyes wide in disbelief.
"In hidden weapons, he's the only one who can truly compete with me!" Tang San assessed with admiration.
"Yiran, you've lost," Long Gong stated.
"What?" Meng Yiran asked incredulously.
"Look over there!" Long Gong pointed at the tree.
"That's impossible!" Meng Yiran gazed at the tree, her eyes widening.
On the trunk of the tree in front of her, sixteen Soul Breaking Knives formed the shape of a "Tian" character. Each knife was embedded in the trunk, with eighteen leaves attached to it. If the knives had been able to hold more leaves, the number would have certainly been greater.
"This…" Meng Yiran still couldn't believe her eyes.
"Mu Chen's technique is something I could never replicate. Sixteen Soul Breaking Knives launched in succession, yet they managed to change direction mid-air, hitting eighteen leaves each. And Mu Chen did this without even looking at the tree. All sixteen knives were thrown in the span of a second. Such skill can only be described as incredible!" Long Gong praised Mu Chen.
"Curse it!" Meng Yiran sulked on the ground. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Can I see that again?"
With an eager expression, Meng Yiran looked at Mu Chen, her usual pride gone.
"Sure," Mu Chen said, extending his hand. He suddenly focused and created a pulling force in his palm. The sixteen Soul Breaking Knives flew back from the tree and landed in his grasp.
"Elder, you might want to shake the tree again," Mu Chen smiled.
"Alright," Long Gong nodded.
*Boom!*
Long Gong slammed his staff into the ground once more, sending a shockwave that made the tree tremble again.
*Whoosh!*
Mu Chen stepped lightly, leaping into the air, his eyes turning red.
*Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!*
The Soul Breaking Knives were continuously thrown, creating a symphony of metallic sounds. An astonishing sight occurred.
The knives that had just passed through the leaves were struck by another knife, redirecting their paths and continuing to pierce the leaves.
*Boom!*
With a final sound, all the Soul Breaking Knives struck the trunk of the tree, forming the same "Tian" character.
"Ugh!"
Meng Yiran was left speechless, her eyes glazed over as she witnessed the scene before her. As a spirit master practicing hidden weapon techniques, she understood the high level of difficulty in Mu Chen's actions.
For the knives to fly through the air and change direction while being hit by other knives? That could only be described as incredible!
"I lost," Meng Yiran admitted.
*Ding Dong!*
"Congratulations! You have completed the D-level task of securing Tang San's soul ring by defeating Meng Yiran again. Reward: Soul Power: 40,000 points, Skill Points: 2, Item: 30 Smoke Bombs, Item: One 30,000-year Soul Ring."
**Smoke Bomb:** An item from the Three Kingdoms Legends universe; when thrown, it emits smoke that can daze enemies who come into contact, temporarily incapacitating them.
Mu Chen couldn't help but grin at the rewards he had received, feeling that the performance had been well worth it.
