Chapter 23: The Semi Finals
After eliminating several teams, Ryuichi and MorTyous found themselves in the semi-finals. Only four contestants remained, and Ryuichi had yet to face Nathan. Looking at the event page, he realized his next opponent was none other than Nathan himself. The long-awaited confrontation was finally here. The air was thick with tension, the atmosphere charged as the tournament neared its end.
"Alright, I guess it's time," Ryuichi said, turning to MorTyous. "We're going to have to fight this guy fearlessly. Think you can handle that?" He said laughing.
MorTyous chuckled darkly. "I don't fear anything. Especially not a fight where you can't even die."
"We'll see," Ryuichi muttered. "I wish us both good luck."
Suddenly, the spirit's voice slithered into Ryuichi's mind. "Listen, you need to win this. We have to make our way into this raid group, and you need to prove yourself to the raid leader. When it's time, run up to Nathan and let me take over."
"What?" Ryuichi protested, "This is my fight. I want to beat him—"
The spirit's tone darkened. "I'm glad you want that, but if you don't let me handle this, it won't end well. Usually, I'd be content to watch you but we must secure this. Nathan's got his father's power behind him."
Ryuichi clenched his fists, torn between his pride and the spirit's ominous warning. He looked at MorTyous, his partner ready for anything, and then back to the arena where Nathan awaited.
As the countdown began for the semi-final battle, Ryuichi could feel the weight of the moment. His heart raced as the numbers ticked down: The dice was now on a Savanna Landscape and the counter had started.
10… 9… 8…
He could see Nathan across the battleground, standing tall in his heavy armor, his massive double handed sword gleaming in the midday sun. Next to him, the warlock stood with a twisted grin, shadows flickering around his fingertips as he prepared to unleash his dark magic. The air between the two teams buzzed with tension.
3… 2… 1…
Go!
Nathan charged forward with incredible speed for his size, sword raised, aiming to cleave Ryuichi in half. The warlock was right behind him, casting, summoning tendrils that slithered toward MorTyous.
Ryuichi immediately activated Spectral Walk, disappearing into the shadows as Nathan's sword came crashing down, narrowly missing him. MorTyous, dropped a lightning totem behind him, channeling his elemental powers to create a protective field of energy. Lightning crackled through the air, arcing toward the warlock, but Nathan's warlock partner summoned a dark shield, absorbing the damage.
Ryuichi reappeared behind Nathan, and tried to drive his sword into into the gaps in Nathan's heavy armor. But the warrior barely flinched at the assault. Nathan let out a roar and swung his sword wildly. Ryuichi ducked under the blade, rolling to the side as the ground shattered beneath the blow. The walls of the dome were getting closer.
MorTyous, meanwhile, was in a deadly dance with the warlock. The air around them was thick with magic, fire and lightning clashing in mid-air as the warlock cast Chaos Shots and MorTyous retaliated with Lighting Strike. MorTyous dropped a Fire Totem, engulfing the area in flames, forcing the warlock to retreat momentarily.
But the warlock wasn't finished. He began a summon, his eyes glowing with malevolent power. "Taste of My Summon!" he shouted, materializing a bloody red skull tied to a chain, his voice echoing across the battlefield. MorTyous stumbled as dark tendrils wrapped around him, draining his strength.
Ryuichi saw his partner faltering and knew he had to act fast. But just as he prepared to strike Nathan again, the spirit in his mind hissed: "Now's the time, let me take control!"
Without hesitation, Ryuichi let the spirit take over. His body moved with unnatural speed, his dagger becoming a blur as he weaved through Nathan's attacks. He could feel the spirit's cold control guiding his movements, each strike more precise and deadly than before.
"Come on, Kurogane! Is this all you've got?!" Nathan snarled, eyes blazing with fury.
The warlock had summoned an enormous Demon with wings. With a single gesture, the demon charged at MorTyous, its massive claws ready to tear him apart. But MorTyous wasn't scared. With a burst of energy, he dropped a Water Totem, healing his wounds, and summoned a massive Lightning Storm. The storm roared above them, but he also had a trinket, he materialized talisman which looked like a storm in a glass ball hanging from a chain of lighting, he swung the chain high, spinning it around making it look like a tornado of lighting and with a powerful shout, MorTyous shot the full power of the storm in a bolt of lightning straight at the Demon heart. The demon screamed in agony as the lightning struck, its body convulsing before exploding into a shower of dark energy. MorTyous then having use all bits of energy that he had for this attack collapse on one knee to breath while drinking a mana potion.
The battle had truly begun.
Nathan, his confidence shaken, stared at his buff. It wasn't working. No fear radiated from Ryuichi. No terror to feed the dark magic he wielded. Panic surged in Nathan's chest. "It's not working, it only half charged..., what happened? I can't afford to lose this."
With a desperate growl, he charged at Ryuichi, sword raised, Intimidation Cry he screamed, a spell meant to rattle even the most fearless of foes. But Ryuichi remained unfazed. His eyes locked on Nathan's movements, calculating, unyielding. As Nathan swung his sword with all his might, Ryuichi moved like lightning, deflecting the blow with such force that Nathan's weapon flew out of his grip, spinning away into the shrinking dome.
Before Nathan could react, Ryuichi followed up with a brutal kick to his chest, sending him flying through the air. He crashed into the barrier of the dome, the painful shock surging through his body made him scream in pain as the force of the elimination system took effect.
"Nathan has been eliminated!" the announcer's voice boomed, and the crowd roared in excitement. But the battle was far from over.
Now only the warlock remained, the final contender.
Bolts of lightning and dark magic crackled through the air as MorTyous and the warlock exchanged blows. The ground trembled as the warlock unleashed curses, waves of dark energy lashing out. Mortyous, ever steady, countered with his elemental prowess. Fire Totems erupted from the earth, sending waves of magma coursing toward the warlock, forcing him to dodge and deflect.
The warlock's eyes glowed with malicious intent. Summoning his strength, he chanted an ancient spell, drawing upon the power of the molten ground beneath him. With a flash of dark energy, he summoned hundreds of fiery, demonic drakes, their wings shimmering with molten scales as they launched toward MorTyous with terrifying speed.
MorTyous stood his ground, his face set in determination. With a swift motion, he slammed his hammer into the ground, summoning his Water Totem. The totem pulsed with elemental power, sending waves of water crashing into the demonic drakes, extinguishing their fiery bodies in a violent hiss of steam.
The warlock grinned, thinking he still had the upper hand, but MorTyous had other plans.
With a determined look, MorTyous started summoning a dark, crackling energy that pulsed from the earth. "It's time to end this," he whispered under his breath.
He raised both hands high into the air, and suddenly, a Black Totems formed around his feet one for each element he had master. The crowd gasped in astonishment, whispers spreading like wildfire.
"No way! Is that Hellstorm?! At his level!?"
"I don't believe this"
"Who is this shaman?"
"That is Dragon of Time, Devtex's Son"
"Wow, their new recruits are better then our leaders..."
The narrator's voice boomed in disbelief. "Ladies and gentlemen, you're witnessing something truly remarkable! This level 30 shaman has already mastered one of the rarest and most powerful spells—Hellstorm Totem!"
The Black Totems pulsed with dark energy, and with a thundering crack, it unleashed a devastating combination of magma, lightning and water which was being boiled to steam from the heat of the lava causing burning steam to be flying from electrifying magma in a hurricane wind. Streams of molten lava surged from the ground beneath the warlock's feet, while bolts of electrifying lightning arced through the air, striking him from every direction in a hurricane of steamed water and lighting.
The warlock tried to summon his defenses, casting shields and dark barriers, but it was too much. The sheer force of the Hellstorm Totem overwhelmed him. Lava engulfed him, burning through his protections, while lightning coursed through his body, searing his flesh. He screamed, trying to fight back, but the elemental fury was relentless.
The warlock staggered, his health bar plummeting. His body crackled with the combined elements, his movements becoming sluggish. In a final, desperate attempt, he tried to summon more of his demonic drakes, but it was too late. The Hellstorm Totem pulsed one final time, and the warlock's health hit zero.
He collapsed to the ground, defeated.
"And that's it! Shadow Requiem wins!" the announcer roared as the crowd erupted into cheers.
MorTyous stood tall, his face calm but triumphant
