Chapter 10: Chapter 10 Fainting from Blood Loss
"Do you think I'm blind? I just came from over there and saw you pushed Aria, and you're still arguing."
Aria Knight was sitting on the ground, crying as if the world were collapsing,
"Edward, she called me a mistress. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have come back to the country. The doctor said my health shouldn't be agitated. Maybe I should go back to M country tomorrow to recuperate. It seems like she doesn't welcome me back."
Clara Knox was pinned by Edward Harper against the wall by her neck; the examination sheet fluttered to the ground like snowflakes.
The chill on her back spread throughout her body, and the softest inch of her heart felt as if it had been punctured, slowly bleeding, with cold air piercing through her.
Just when she felt she might die the next second, a warm flow started from her lower body, slowly seeping out.
Her eyes blurred with tears, she prayed silently, "My baby, you must be alright."
"Edward Harper, I beg you, let me go..."
Her vision blurred, and sounds around her became fuzzy.
She faintly heard Aria Knight still sobbing,
"Edward, don't blame her. She just pushed me lightly. It was my own legs that gave out."
Edward Harper's eyes were as cold as ice, and if looks could kill, Clara Knox would have died a thousand times over.
"How could you, as an older sister, be so cruel to your own younger sister? Don't you know she has a severe heart condition? You said such hurtful words to agitate her and even pushed her. If anything happens to her, I won't let you off."
After leaving those harsh words, Edward Harper let go of Clara, picked up Aria Knight from the ground, and hurried towards the clinic.
Clara watched his anxious figure as he carried Aria away, her heart tightly clenched, almost too painful to breathe. If it weren't for worrying about Aria, he might have strangled her.
Feeling the wet heat from below, Clara Knox covered her lower abdomen and slowly squatted down; she started picking up the scattered examination sheets one by one. After picking up the last one, a pair of shiny black leather shoes appeared beside her.
"Clara, what's wrong?"
Clara looked up—it was Julian Harper's gentle face, his voice as soothing as the spring wind.
Julian Harper squatted down to help her organize the papers, pausing his glance on the ultrasound report for a while.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through Clara's lower abdomen, cramping painfully. She knelt on the floor, arching her back, her face devoid of any color.
"Clara, where does it hurt?"
Clara was in too much pain to speak.
"Don't be afraid, Clara. I'll take you to the doctor right now."
Clara felt herself fainting; she heard his words and his rapid breathing, felt the sensation of weightlessness and the wind whooshing by her ears as Julian Harper carried her and ran.
Her memory seemed to be wiped clean for two hours, Clara had no idea what had happened afterward; when she woke up, she was already lying in a hospital bed, an IV drip in her arm.
In front of the window stood a tall, statuesque silhouette, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, the white shirt impeccably smooth.
That physique clearly belonged to the Harper genes.
"Uncle?"
Clara tentatively called out, and Julian Harper turned at the sound.
"Clara, how are you feeling? Would you like some water?"
Clara placed one hand on her lower abdomen, "Uncle, I..."
Julian Harper pulled up a chair and sat down,
"Don't worry, the baby is alright, and so should you, understand?"
Hearing the baby was alright, Clara breathed a sigh of relief; she never thought that the first person to know her secret would be Edward Harper's uncle.
She hadn't met the uncle many times and wasn't very familiar with him.
The first time she saw him was at the airport when she went to pick up Isaac Turner. Excitedly, Isaac had told her,
"I just saw a sophisticated man wearing rimless glasses, wow, I really want to turn him gay."
When they left the airport, they saw him getting into Edward Harper's car.
Later, Clara Knox found out that he was Edward Harper's uncle.
Her thoughts returning, Clara Knox did not want Edward Harper to know that she was pregnant, fearing that he would force her to have an abortion.
"Uncle, can you please keep this a secret for me?"
Julian Harper hooked his lips, "Adding a member to the Harper family is such good news, why hide it?"
"I, we're getting divorced, we've already signed the divorce papers."
Julian Harper raised his eyebrows and stared straight at her, and after a long silence he nodded slightly,
"I can keep your secret."
Clara Knox felt uncomfortable under his gaze, and for some reason, she always felt there was something inexplicable about how the uncle looked at her. Yet, his behavior was impeccably courteous, leaving no room for criticism.
"Thank you, uncle. By the way, what brought you to the hospital today?"
"I came to get some medicine, and just happened to see you picking things up from the ground. The doctor said you need to stay in bed for a week. You have a cold, and also… a threatened miscarriage, you must listen to the doctor, understand?"
Clara Knox nodded,
"Thank you, uncle. You can go attend to your matters, don't worry about me."
Julian Harper lifted his eyelids to look at the IV stand beside the bed, where more than half of the IV fluid remained,
"I will wait until it's finished. I've hired two caregivers outside, call me if you need anything. You don't have my contact information yet, do you? Write it down."
Clara Knox unlocked her phone, saved Julian Harper's number, and added each other on WeChat.
After the IV finished and the nurse had removed the needle, Julian Harper truly left.
Clara Knox stayed in the hospital for seven days and was discharged smoothly. During that time, Julian Harper came every evening, staying for about half an hour each time until she finished her meal then he would leave.
When she was discharged, Isaac Turner came back from out of town to pick her up and brought her straight home.
Isaac Turner had his own studio where he made custom clothing.
His reputation wasn't big, usually only securing orders from minor internet celebrities and less-known stars, but at least the work was flexible. He was accustomed to a relaxed and easygoing lifestyle, unsuited for a nine-to-six job.
His home's decoration was also quite casual; the guest room on the second floor was always reserved for Clara Knox, although she had never stayed overnight. Edward Harper, being very controlling, didn't allow her to spend the night outside.
The moment Clara Knox stepped into Isaac Turner's house, Edward Harper received the news.
Harper Clan CEO's office.
Liam Johnson: "Director Harper, we finally found the madam; she just went to Isaac Turner's house."
Edward Harper rubbed his temples, the dark circles under his eyes evident, his mood seeming poor,
"Did you find out where she was this past week?"
Liam Johnson replied hesitantly, "It's like the madam vanished into thin air this week; we couldn't locate her anywhere. Our people almost turned Capital City upside down. The day you met the madam at the hospital, it just so happened that the hospital's surveillance was broken, and street surveillance near the hospital also didn't catch a glimpse of the madam."
Edward Harper's four fingers tapped habitually on the table,
"If you can't handle even this, what use do I have for an assistant like you? The surveillance being broken is obviously tampered with, why do you think the hospital has no record of her visit?"
Liam Johnson, frightened, dared not respond. With his subordinates working nonstop for seven days without a trace or clue, he couldn't fathom how such divine intervention kept the madam completely hidden.
Edward Harper picked up his suit jacket from the hanger and headed out, Liam Johnson hurriedly following.
The car drove straight to Isaac Turner's house, and as Edward Harper got out, he turned to call Liam Johnson,
"Come with me."
At that moment, Isaac Turner was in the middle of furiously cursing Scum Harper.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, "Your delivery!"
