Chapter 21: Subjugation: Heartbeat
Hisashi floated in the water across from his opponent, the air crackling with tension. His sword gleamed, ready for the battle to come. The figure before him, illuminated by the red light, sneered with confidence.
"I had to risk a lot to turn you into an opponent worthy to challenge me for the throne. It would be boring if you kept losing…" his hollow said, voice thick with mockery.
Hisashi's eyes narrowed, his expression cold. "I don't have time for chatter today. Let's get down to it."
With a swift motion, the restraints that had bound them both disappeared, and the battle began.
Hisashi moved first, his intent clear.
To kill in that instant.
His blade sliced through the water with deadly precision. But the figure was ready, countering with a quick jab aimed directly at Hisashi's eyes.
They burst out of the water, clashing against each other as the red moon bore witness.
Hisashi ducked just in time, the air rushing past him as the strike narrowly missed. He retaliated immediately, swinging his sword toward the figure's hands.
But the opponent was quick, evading the attack with a graceful twist before launching himself into the air, gaining the high ground.
Not one to hesitate, Hisashi followed, propelling himself upward to meet him. They collided midair, their blades clashing with a deafening impact.
The force of the collision sent shockwaves rippling through the air, shattering the stillness of the frozen wasteland. Their swords locked, and the battle became more than just a fight.
It was a battle of wills.
"Much more ferocious than last time, I see," the hollow taunted, his grin arrogant but impressed.
Hisashi gritted his teeth. "You're not so bad yourself."
As the fight continued, both combatants unleashed their spiritual energy in waves, the world around them trembling in response to the intensity of their powers.
Hisashi could feel the energy swirling within him, and for a moment, the air itself seemed to pulse in sync with their battle. His opponent's grin widened as red energy surged from him, clashing against Hisashi's own power in a spectacular display of light and force.
"This strike shall be the last!!" they both shouted in unison, the words echoing with the thrill of their battle.
BOOM!
The explosion of energy was deafening, the ground beneath their feet cracking and splintering. The world around them trembled under the weight of their clash. For a moment, it felt as if the entire battlefield would collapse beneath them.
As the dust settled and the echoes of their battle faded, the two warriors stood facing each other, their swords pierced deep into the other's chest.
Blood dripped from the wounds, but neither of them moved. They were locked in place, grinning despite the pain.
"That was one hell of a battle," Hisashi laughed, blood staining his lips.
His opponent, no less battered, returned the laugh with a sense of satisfaction. "I can't remember the last time I had a fight like that."
The air between them shifted, a quiet understanding passing between them. They both knew the battle had changed something within them.
"What is your name, me?" Hisashi asked the hollow with a wince.
"Yuzūi," he answered.
Hisashi's hollow self, Yuzūi, now fully aware of the bond between them, spoke, his voice low and respectful. "I think you are fit to rule. You are the one meant to sit on that throne, the Solitary King. As long as we spar like this of course."
Hisashi's grin returned, sharper now. "Such a small matter. Why would I refuse when I've only grown stronger with your guidance?"
Yuzūi's form flickered in acknowledgment, his smile reflecting the same understanding. "That's more like it. But remember, you still have much to learn."
The clash was over, but their journey together had only just begun.
---
"I'm getting tired of dealing with Hisashi's loss of control." A short-statured girl in a sleek black battle suit muttered in exasperation, her voice tinged with both annoyance and resignation.
Serafall Leviathan had faced countless troubles in her lifetime, but now, she could confidently say humans–especially one like Hisashi, were a pain in the ass.
An ominous roar shattered the quiet, sending a chill through the air.
The scene was all too familiar. Hisashi, in his hollowfied state, stood at the center of a growing storm of malevolence, his spiritual pressure warping the air around him.
His form was monstrous yet eerily human, a twisted reflection of his immense potential. Serafall knew one thing.
She couldn't afford to drop her guard for even a second.
"Let's end this quickly," she muttered to herself. Forming a rapid series of hand seals, a glowing magic circle materialized beneath Hisashi's feet, pulsing with brighf light that gave one a sense of trepidation.
With a sharp command, chains erupted from the ground, spectral flames licking their edges as they wrapped around him. The restraints tightened with each passing second, binding his limbs and locking him in place.
"That should hold him—"
She sighed as he broke the chains. His power wasn't diminishing. It was rising. Faster. More dangerously.
Even with her experience, Serafall couldn't deny the unsettling power radiating from him. It was growing, and fast. "This isn't normal..." she muttered.
It wasn't just his raw strength that unnerved her. It was the chaotic, destructive nature of his attacks. She knew that, on his own Hisashi could already destroy a city. But in this state? He could obliterate at most, an island.
"If he gains control, there might not be a limit to his strength."
The thought left her momentarily happy. At least then, her friend would be free from all this torment.
Another guttural roar erupted from Hisashi, and the ground beneath them cracked as a pillar of dark red energy shot into the sky, tearing through the heavens like a spear.
Serafall clenched her fists, her exhaustion momentarily forgotten.
"Here we go again." She sighed, her voice laced with a weary determination. Deep down, she clung to one fragile hope: that Hisashi would never truly lose himself to this monstrous power.
With a burst of speed, she shot forward, magic circles materializing around her as she unleashed a barrage of destructive spells. Explosions of light and energy illuminated the battlefield, each one aimed with precision to incapacitate him without causing lasting harm.
Her heart pounded.
Hisashi's monstrous roar reverberated through the air as the battlefield seemed to hold its breath. Serafall weaved through the chaos, her spells striking with pinpoint accuracy. She knew she had to contain him, but every strike only seemed to fuel his unrelenting power.
Hisashi's hollowfied form raised his black obsidian sword, now gleaming with an ominous red hue. With a single swing, a wave of dark energy hurtled toward her.
Serafall dodged with a quick burst of speed, her black battle suit glinting under the chaotic red light. The wave carved through the frozen wasteland, leaving a molten scar in its wake.
"It's getting harder to keep up with him while holding back," she muttered. But she wasn't about to give up.
Their battle turned into a deadly dance, with Hisashi's sword slicing through the air and her spells flashing like bursts of starlight. The world around them trembled under the weight of their combined power.
Finally, she managed to bind him again. Chains of spectral flames erupted from her latest spell, wrapping tightly around his monstrous form. His body was barely visible beneath the mass of restraints.
"Got you," she whispered, relief washing over her.
But her relief was short-lived.
The air grew silent, unnaturally so. The oppressive energy around Hisashi vanished, leaving a void that sent a shiver down her spine.
Then it came: a soul-piercing scream that seemed to echo from the depths of despair.
"I won't let you kill them!"
The words shook her to her core. Hisashi's voice, mingled with the hollow's, carried a torment she couldn't comprehend. It wasn't directed at her.
It was directed at himself.
"What... what is happening?" she murmured, her hands trembling. The malice behind those words was unlike anything she'd ever felt.
As Hisashi's power surged, Serafall felt a flicker of something unexpected.
A faint pulse of trust.
"Hisashi..." she whispered, her voice barely audible. After all this time, he trusted her.
Of all the battles she'd fought, this moment struck her the hardest. It wasn't his monstrous power or the destruction he could unleash. It was the realization that he had finally let his guard down, even if just for a moment.
Her head spun. "What happened in there? What did he see...?"
She barely had time to process it as Hisashi roared again, his power surging once more. But this time, she felt something different—a heartbeat.
It wasn't the monstrous hollow. It wasn't the chaotic energy. It was Hisashi.
"Don't make me regret this," she muttered, her resolve hardening as she prepared her next move.
She wasn't going to let him lose himself—not now, not ever.

I am so TIRED! I can't even tell you how I got this exhausted.
Welp, we have 1 vote for Grayfia being Sirzechs' wife and 1 vote for her being Hisashi's wife.
Then there is another guy who says he doesn't care either way and honestly, I'm just as indecisive.
If you choose option 1, that just means a smaller harem, Hooray!
Option 2? Meh, still a win for me. *Author smirks*
The reason why I made this pole was because I wanted to hear people's opinions and provoke you guys.
Do you know how it's like to want your MC to have Grayfia, but then you have to think: Where the hell will Milicas come from?
Now I came up with a good explanation for that but hey, I gave you the freedom of choice.
Speaking of indecisive, I am currently thinking of writing a novel. Trust me when I say I am really nervous about it. People are fucking judgemental, I am just wondering how I was lucky to have you guys. You rarely complain, and if you do it's constructive.
I am grateful for that. Please support me if I do decide on releasing the novel.
And if you are asking, the novel has no DAMN system. I have my reasons, can't change my mind.
The Novel is still under construction, code named: Project World.
I wrote this fanfic out of complete boredom and how rare NoSystem fanfics are so, here you have it.
Chapters will be posted on Tuesday and Thursday. Don't expect it to arrive exactly then because I am using a different time zone. I have to change that.
Please comment and vote for me, it means a lot to know my hard work is paying off. And aren't you glad I haven't dropped it yet? Some fics were dropped at Chapter 3 or so.
Celebrations for reaching 20 chapters, give this man a beer.
Happy Reading Everybody
If you have opinions, don't be afraid to let me know.
