Chapter 231.2
Chapter 231.2. The Battlefield In Chaos
Well, Yukihana is a person of effort. The girl in a kimono, who likely feels the difference even more than I do, still tries to close the gap by repeatedly fighting. I can’t say she’s strong enough, and though it’s not much of a consolation, that’s the truth. As for me, I just say lightly to keep trying since it’s someone else’s problem. She’d probably find it easier that way.
[War Cry]
Yukihana stops, takes a deep breath, and lets out a roar. She mixes fighting spirit into her voice, sending noise racing through the space.
I quickly understood what she did. She mimicked the droplets from before, using a slight noise to hinder space transfer. Her roar, disrupting the delicate magical wavelength, slightly shook the demons’ barriers.
“I got it!”
Seeing this, Yukihana proudly leaps into the air. With fighting spirit flowing through her body, her kimono fluttering, she punches straight down.
[King’s Ground Strike]
A massive Mana-infused punch is unleashed, crashing into the ground. The fighting spirit turns into a blade, slicing through the lower demons gathered around. They are cut apart and fall to the ground. Yukihana lands, spinning gracefully among the fallen lower demons.
“Well done, I’ll praise you, Yukihana.”
I snap my fingers, locking all the remaining lower demons that were stunned by the impact. Then, darkness spread like fog around the ground, centered on me.
“Today’s weather is clear. Some areas may have thorns.”
[Darkness Needle Field]
A single murmur was enough. I activated the magic, and immediately the dark power spread over the land. My spell reacted with the darkness on the ground, transforming it into thorn-like spears. The dark thorns, created at the feet of the lower demons, shot out, piercing their bodies instantly without giving them a chance to evade.
With holes punched in their bodies, all 500 lower demons were killed by a single spell from me.
In no time, I had turned into a pincushion prince. Though they aren’t humans.
“Mike. Retrieve the cores from all the demons.”
“Meow.”
Mike and the others followed the instructions and ran to collect the cores.
As I watched them, I approached a nearby fallen lower demon and extracted the monster’s core. It glows red at the center of the jet-black crystal. It looks like the usual core, but… it feels a bit different. The power it holds is not normal.
This is rare. Huh? Are all demon cores rare?
Calmly, I looked around and gulped. Huh? Are all of these rare? This demon was ranked B, right?
What about the Gazer? I turned my gaze to the fallen Gazer, which turned to dust and disappeared, leaving no core. So summoning beasts are out of the core range. Even so, is it rare for such weak enemies?
“Ah, ahem. Hey, soldier over there. Since I defeated the demons, the cores are all mine, right? That’s right?”
With hope, I walked over to the soldier whose life I saved to confirm. For some reason, the soldiers didn’t even raise their guns and just stared with their mouths open, but they quickly snapped to attention and saluted when I spoke.
“Of course, that’s right! Everyone has confirmed that you defeated them! Right? That’s correct, isn’t it?”
“That’s correct! If anyone complains, we’ll handle it, so just let us know!”
When I sought agreement from the nearby soldiers, they all saluted in unison, affirming it was indeed correct. Their voices trembled slightly, so my spell must have been quite a shock. Well, at level 6, it’s in the A-rank range. The area magic is quite powerful, so, understandably, they’re frightened.
“Thank you. Could you tell me your name? I’d like to thank you later.”
“The squad leader’s name is Narimasa Sasa, Your Excellency!”
For some reason, the soldier gave the name of the squad leader rather than his own. Seeing the surprise and widened eyes of the soldiers behind him, it seems he is the squad leader. He frowned, probably wishing I hadn’t said his name. Well, maybe I’ll send a box of sweets later. A box of yamabuki-colored sweets. I hope the soldiers understand that I’m a generous guardian.
[Well… if you’re generous, will you wag your tail?]
[It’s good if you remember me as being generous. More importantly, demons, Shizuku. Demons.]
Shizuku, floating in the air and sitting cross-legged, seems to hint that my image is scary. But she quickly refocuses and speaks.
[Demon cores are rare. I rarely encountered them, and I never cared about the cores, so I learned this for the first time. I was surprised that even lower demons had rare cores.]
[This… I can expect Named ones. I’ve decided. I’ll focus on hunting demons. It’ll help everyone, too.]
I’m thrilled to have obtained a large number of rares. Everyone is happy not to face too strong monsters.
[Be cautious in the demon dungeon, as it is dangerous. First, let’s fight the crocodile demon. And don’t untie your sneaker laces, okay?]
[Once the low-level enemies are cleared by the Japanese army, guide me to the demon dungeon. Also, is the crocodile demon strong? It must be special. Exciting, isn’t it?]
Despite my age, I’m quite excited about fighting new monsters and demons. After all, everything is rare. And if that’s the case, all bosses must be special. They’re certainly strong opponents, but we’ve powered up too, so we’ll aim for victory.
Shizuku, looking awkwardly away, probably thinks demons are that strong. I’ll need to make sure my sneaker laces are tightly tied. I’ll be careful.
