Eight Gods on a Windowsill

Chapter 21: Gods Meet in Secret

Whisper paced back and forth. His thoughts were all over the place. His spies told him very disturbing things. It is very odd for Rammel to take an interest now. His goals and actions don't seem to align. He paced harder. The hall wasn't big enough for the energy he had. He wanted to crush something. Yet, everything in this hall was out of the question.

"Usually, you are quite calm, Whisper." Came a very soft coo. "Something upsetting you?" Sethyr. Talanys' sister knew how to appear from nowhere in the most quietest of fashions. Her spy network was even greater than Whisper's. Most of her spies were Fractions. But, mortals signed on because she had an even smoother tongue than Yog.

"Rammel." Whisper's voice hit an edge. What were you thinking, bringing a Fraction here alone? They don't belong in our throne room.

"He is a peculiar one." She cooed. "However, if something a lowly guard said to you bothers you, how are you to take action?"

Whisper exploded. "When our forefathers are dead. I will erase the Fractions from this existence and we shall reign supreme." His hands clenched as he spoke. The urge to thrash something grew in him.

"You're sounding more like your brother." Sethyr chided with a smile. She knew what she was doing. "Are you sure absorbing him was the best thing for your constitution?"

"Would you have rather I destroy his remains and leave his essence for that Fraction to absorb?" The fury in him began to reside. A little. She is right. Absorbing Yog was risky. But, if that Fraction child of Rammel's were to gain too much power so early, she might destroy us first. I cannot have that. "Perhaps my brother was right. She needs to be tested. We need to know where her loyalties lie." And then, he was gone.

"What was that about?" Came a calm growl from the shadows. Sorem. He glanced over at Sethyr and without saying more, his eyes demanded an answer.

"I have begun trimming the fat."
