Chapter 1 - The Elevator is Going Down, Please Hold On!
Chapter 1 – The Elevator is Going Down, Please Hold On!
“Where is this place? Was I kidnapped?”
Lin Feng rubbed his still dizzy head and stood up.
Not long ago, he was rushing to get to his 8am morning class, because he didn’t like staying in the dorms, he was renting a house off-campus with some other people. He didn’t know which damned thing invented these 8am classes.
“How did I end up in an elevator?”
Lin Feng reached out and pressed the open door button, but the elevator didn’t react at all. Just then, the LCD screen next to the buttons suddenly lit up, and a strange voice came from the elevator’s speaker system.
[Welcome lucky ones to the Elevator Survival World.]
[Here there are endless treasures and lethal dangers. The elevator will enter a new floor every time it hits 12 o’clock. You can choose to explore the floors or stay safely in the elevator. In any case, the elevator will close in one hour, and any survivors who have not entered the elevator will be left behind on that floor forever.]
[You may also encounter other survivors when entering the same floor. You can cooperate to explore the floor together, or kill each other.]
[The screen next to the elevator buttons allows you to communicate or trade with each other.]
[You can use materials gathered from your floors to upgrade the elevator, turning it into a base. The base level is the same as the chatroom level.]
[The elevator is an absolute safe zone. None of the creatures encountered on the floors will enter the elevator, but that only applies to floor creatures. The elevator cannot defend against attacks from other survivors, so please protect the elevator well.]
[Now, let the game begin!]
…
After the voice disappeared, Lin Feng calmed down. It seemed he had not been kidnapped, but instead transported to another world like in novels. And from what the voice said, it seemed he was not the only one brought here.
At this time, the screen had loaded a chatroom. His avatar and name had a big number 1 next to it, which was probably his level. The materials needed to upgrade were also listed: 50kg of wood and 100kg of iron.
The chatroom was divided into a main chat and private chats, and automatically translated languages.
[Where is this place? Is anyone else here? What should we do?]
[Did everyone hear what that voice said just now? We’re probably transported to another world now.]
[Damn it, I just won 10 million in the lottery!]
[So this isn’t the underworld after all? I just jumped off a building and ended up in this place, I thought it was the underworld!]
…
The chatroom was very lively, it seemed there were quite a few people transported to this world. The elevator space was also very large, bigger than a normal freight elevator.
Just then, a voice rang out in Lin Feng’s mind.
“Ding, host entry into the world detected. Fortune-telling system bound.”
“Ding, there is no danger in the upcoming floor. There is a cleaver in the lectern drawer, and an unopened chocolate bar in the third desk of the second row. Note: All items in the classroom can be dismantled.”
[Ding dong! Elevator going down, please hold on.]
The elevator broadcast rang out, and Lin Feng instantly felt a sense of weightlessness. After a moment the feeling disappeared, and the elevator doors opened automatically.
Lin Feng was not particularly surprised to have bound a system, just excited inside. After all, having a system meant he had an advantage over others, and this system seemed to be able to predict floor information!
“This really is a classroom.”
Lin Feng looked at the clean classroom and spoke.
On the blackboard were the very classic eight characters: Study hard and make progress every day.
Going to the lectern, Lin Feng indeed found a cleaver in the drawer, though why would there be a cleaver in a classroom?
Lin Feng then looked towards the desk the system mentioned and found the chocolate bar in the cubby hole.
But it was still early, only a minute had passed so far. The elevator still had 59 minutes before closing.
The floor display on the elevator now showed the countdown until the elevator doors closed.
[59:23]
There was still plenty of time, so Lin Feng was in no hurry. He continued searching the classroom.
After spending several minutes rummaging through all the desks, Lin Feng ultimately only found a blank notebook.
He really didn’t understand, this was clearly a classroom, so why weren’t there any books, and why were all the windows opaque and the door locked tight?
But the elevator upgrade just happened to need wood, so he might as well chop up all these desks.
Lin Feng swung the cleaver to try it out and found it felt exceptionally smooth to wield, and extremely sharp. It was just a pity that all the desks, chairs and lectern in the classroom were wooden – there was no iron at all.
With about 40 desks in total, Lin Feng was after all just a university student who liked playing games and rarely exercised. After 50-some minutes, he had only dismantled 20 desks. If he didn’t dismantle them and just took them whole into the elevator, there wouldn’t be space for many.
“There’s 6 minutes left, forget it. Damn, I really gotta exercise more!”
Lin Feng said, wiping away imaginary sweat on his forehead.
Then he carried 6 chairs back to the elevator.
Just as Lin Feng returned, the elevator doors closed. Indistinctly, he seemed to hear noisy sounds.
“Don’t tell me there really are students inside this classroom having lessons??”
Lin Feng scratched his head looking at the 20 desks he had dismantled.
Oh well, if this really was a school, he believed the school would replace the desks.
Lin Feng then looked at the screen again. The materials needed to upgrade had changed.
[Upgrade Requirements: 10kg wood, 100kg iron]
“Dammit, just these desks were only 40kg? There’s definitely a middleman here!”
And the elevator must have counted the chairs too, because Lin Feng saw them listed in the details below.
After removing the chairs, the required wood increased by another 10kg.
Lin Feng had brought the chairs back to rest on.
After arranging the 6 chairs, Lin Feng lay down to try them out. They could just stretch out.
But there wasn’t much space left in the elevator now.
“Let’s check out the chatroom.”
Lin Feng got up and went to the screen, opening the chatroom.
[Did you all complete the first floor? Encounter any danger?]
[Finished exploring, mine was an abandoned building, found two iron shovels and a leather bucket.]
[Mine was also pretty safe, just a bit disgusting. The floor I entered was a public restroom, the smell inside was too nasty so I didn’t stay long before returning to the elevator.]
[Brother upstairs, that public restroom should have taps right? ]
[Yes, but I wasn’t thirsty, and didn’t have anything to hold water in either.]
[Even if you’re not thirsty have a drink, what if you get thirsty later and can’t find any?]
[If you want to drink go drink it yourself, restroom water, disgusting.]
…
[Seems like everyone’s floors were safe, I entered an abandoned factory and found 20kg of scrap iron and half a bottle of mineral water.]
