Chapter 12: Gold Nugget and Inn Owner
"You'll see!" Raciel then looked around looking for something.
Raciel then saw an alley close to where they were. No one was close by, so he entered. After making sure no one was there, Raciel changed his Telekinesis ability with Matter Manipulation.
Having made sure that nobody was coming close to the alley and changing his ability Raciel took the stone out of his pocket and using Matter Manipulation started to manipulate the atoms of the stone and re-arrange the atoms to form gold.
Nae Jin-Sang saw from start to finish how the stone that Raciel took out from his pocket started to turn golden from top to bottom until the whole stone was golden.
"How did you do that?" Nae Jin-Sang said while looking at the golden nugget in Raciel's hands.
"It's not that hard; I copy an ability that lets me do that," Raciel said while testing the hardness of the gold. After confirming the hardness, he put the nugget in his pocket.
"So you can turn anything in stone?" Nae Jin-Sang asked after seeing Raciel put the golden nugget in his pocket.
"No really, it is not like I am the King Midas." Raciel while chuckling at his joke.
"King Midas? Who's that?" Nae Jin-Sang said confused.
Hearing what Jin-Sang said Raciel couldn't help but stop laughing in embarrassment, "Doesn't matter. What I mean is that I can control matter or atoms in general."
Nae Jin-Sang saw Raciel's embarrassment and also the way he changed the subject so he decided not to dwell on it but he still was confused so he asked, "What is matter?"
"Matter is anything that occupies space, in other words, it is anything in life like rocks or metals." Raciel tried to explain what matter is.
"Uhh… then was is atoms?" Nae Jin-Sang asked with hesitation still confused as to what matter was.
"Well, just like humans are made of bone, organs, muscle, and skin. So matter is made up of atoms." Raciel explains more smoothly because an atom is easier than explaining that matter is anything that has a volume and occupies a space.
"If you don't understand it don't worry, it's also hard for people in the future," Raciel said while patting Nae Jin-Sang's shoulder.
Raciel then walked out of the alley and noticed that Nae Jin-Sang was not following him.
"Are you not coming?" Raciel asked Nae Jin-Sang.
"Yes?… Yes! Yes!" Nae Jin-Sang said while running towards Raciel with Nae Yeo-Jin in his arms.
Raciel and Nae Jin-Sang exited the alley and then entered the Inn. The inn stood three stories tall, its wooden beams darkened with age and weather. Positioned near the city gate, it was a welcoming sight for weary travelers. The Murim-style architecture featured sloping tiled roofs and carved wooden railings, though cracks and chipped paint betrayed its wear from the barbarian war. Lanterns hung from the eaves, swaying gently in the breeze, while the faint scent of warm food drifted from the entrance, inviting all who passed.
Entering through the doors, Raciel noticed how practically abandoned the Inn was, there were no workers only the Inn's owner waiting for people to settle but not having much hope in his eyes.
This is mostly due to the war with the Barbarians. With fewer travelers visiting the city and settling at the Inn for the time the owners didn't have enough money to repair the Inn and even not enough enthusiasm to clean it knowing that not many would settle here.
"Welcome, how can I help you? If you want to stay here for free sorry we don't have that service, look somewhere else." The Inn owner said with no enthusiasm in his voice and looked at Nae Jin-Sang, Raciel, and Nae Yeo-Jin up and down to see if there was any money.
"We came to settle here," Raciel said not minding what the Inn owner said.
"How many are staying?" The Inn owner asked.
"We want a room for three," Raciel responded.
"That would be 20 silver taels for each day," The Inn owner said while looking for a book under his desk.
"How much this golden nugget would give us," Raciel said while taking the golden nugget and showing it to the Inn owner.
Seeing the gold nugget the Inn owner showed a surprised face for a moment but then hid it.
"That would only be enough for 1 day and it would only be for a room for one." The Inn owner said with a creepy smile on his face.
"Don't think that because we looked like that we are naive, with that gold nugget with can have the room for three for 3 days. If you think you can cheat us think again." Nae Jin-Sang said when Raciel was about to give him the gold nugget for the room.
When Raciel heard that he suddenly retrieved his hand that was about to give the gold nugget to the Inn owner. The Inn owner who heard this couldn't help but stop smiling after that.
"Alright, you can have your room for three for 3 days." The Inn said annoyed.
He then extended his hand to ask for the gold nugget but after waiting for a while he didn't get the nugget, so he looked at Raciel.
"Shouldn't you give us some compensation for training to scam us?" Raciel said after seeing the way the Inn owner looked at him.
"I should I do that? You should just take the offer and count yourself lucky that I was the one that tried to scam you, someone else and you would even have the chance to keep the gold." The Inn owner said with disdain.
Hearing what the Inn owner said Raciel couldn't help but lift an eyebrow in amusement, "You think the guards will think the same?"
When the Inn owner heard the word 'guard' he couldn't help but turn pale. He knew that if the guards heard about someone trying to scam someone or commit a crime in the city they would have a bad ending.
Due to most of the war, guards have less time to investigate or take care of people's problems. Their solution to this problem would be to arrest anyone who was reported to have committed a crime and they can wait in the cell for execution.
Although this type of system is flawed it was deterrent enough that there hasn't been any crime in the city or if there were they haven't been reported in fear that they would get killed.
"Alright, alright you can have the room for 5 days." The Inn owner with difficulty.
"10 days and food for 3 days or we'll talk with the guards," Raciel said with resolution.
Hearing this the Inn owner couldn't help but fume with anger, "You!.. You.."
"Alright, 10 days and food for 3 days." The Inn owner gave up and said while practically deflating from the loss.
"Thank You!" Raciel said with a smile while this time giving the Inn owner the gold nugget.
The Inn owner then put away the gold nugget and then gave them a key to their room and said "It is at the second level to the left."
Raciel took the key and left for the second level to their room, after entering the room what greeted them was a modest room, with worn wooden floors and a low table in the center. Three thin futons lay neatly arranged, sunlight streaming through a cracked paper window.
"Lay her on the bed with caution to wake her up." Raciel said to Nae Jin-Sang.
"Alright," Nae Jin-Sang then with caution lay her down on the futon.
Even though Nae Jin-Sang lay Nae Yeo-Jin on the futon with caution she still ended up waking up.
"Brother, I'm hungry!" Nae Yeo-Jin said after opening her eyes and seeing Nae Jin-Sang.
Hearing what Nae Yeo-Jin said, Jin-Sang looked at Raciel worried wanting to know if she could eat and Raciel saw that "She being hungry is a good sign."
"Sigh, good" Nae Jin-Sang sighed with relief after learning that this was a good sign.
Suddenly Nae Yeo-Jin grabbed the clothes of Nea Jin-Sang "Brother…"
"Don't be shy Yeo-Jin, this is the person that help us and heal you. " Nae Jin-Sang said after understanding Yeo-Jin's look in her eyes.
"Hello there! Nice to meet you Nae Yeo-Jin, my name is Raciel" Raciel introduced himself to Nae Yeo-Jin who was still wary of him.
