LIGHTNOVELWORLD Chapter 8: Poison Attempt
After the driver gave the other, all the other 5 people in the carriage started to take down stuff.
First, they made some basic tents; there were three in total. This was the number of people in the carriage; two would sleep in one tent.
After they finished making the tents, they started a campfire. With the fire lit, they had a chance to rest a little under it and then go to sleep.
Raciel stood still; after all, he had never gone camping before and had no outdoor experience.
The driver, seeing him like that, stood next to Raciel and said, "Don't worry. We are taking you, and you are paying us. We will give you food and a place to rest."
"Thanks!" Raciel thanked him after hearing this.
The driver then motioned Raciel to sit down near the campfire while waiting for the food to be done.
"Sorry, We haven't introduced ourselves yet." Said the driver
"My name is Dan Hyuk, What about you?" Asked Dan Hyuk
When Raciel heard the driver's name, He was surprised. He didn't think he would listen to a Korean name in this place.
"Is this Korea or just a version of Korea like in novels —The Murim." Raciel thought to himself after hearing Dan Hyuk's name.
"Sorry about that! My name is Raciel. My name may sound weird to you, but that's because I am not from the mainland." Raciel explains to Dan Hyuk not wanting him to prove and try to find why his name was so weird.
"Ah! That explains the weird name." Said Dan Hyuk.
"Yes, that's why." Said Raciel while laughing.
"Well Raciel, that over there is Geum Chul our cook." Dan Hyuk pointed at a skinny ugly guy who was putting vegetables on the pot they had on the fire.
"Next to him is Gong Kang-Dae his brother, although not by blood." Dan Hyuk shifted to the big, thick guy who looked about 40 years old and was next to Geum Chul.
"So that you know, Geum Chul is older than Gong Kang-Dae. Geaum Chul is 35 and Gong Kang-Dae is 21." Added Dan Hyuk.
"The one who made the tents is Eum Iseul." Dan Hyuk pointed at someone sitting around close to the carriage. This guy had the most good-looking face of all the merchants.
"The one that made the campfire is Pi Suck, his a bit silly." Dan Hyuk pointed at someone next to them, he was on the fat side his eyes didn't show any wisdom but when Dan Hyuk mentioned that he was a bit silly he said it quietly.
Apparently to prevent Pi Suck from hearing what Dan Hyuk said as not to hurt his feelings.
"And at last, the one guarding our surroundings is Seon Jee." Dan Hyuk then pointed toward a man with his face mostly covered, standing next to a tree keeping a lookout.
"So what about you? Why are you in this zone? for Business or just sightseeing?" Asked Dan Hyuk to Raciel.
"To complete a mission." Raciel thought to himself but didn't say it.
"I was sightseeing, so when I got lost, I didn't know where else I could go to get instructions. Even worse, I lack a good sense of direction." Raciel replied to Dan Hyuk.
"Oh, I see. So where were you before you got lost?" Asked Dan Hyuk.
Hearing this question, Raciel suddenly got nervous. How was he supposed to know where he was before? He was not even from this world and had just come a week ago.
"Fuck it!" Raciel decided to risk it.
He exchanges Quicksilver's ability for Charle's, which allows him to read Dan Hyuk's mind and determine possible places where he could have been and, even better, where he thinks he was before getting lost.
At the very least, if he can't find anything, the only thing he needs to do is try to make Dan Hyuk and the rest forget about it or implant a thought that they should not ask him anything about him.
The only downside to this is that no matter what Raciel does because he doesn't have any experience with controlling Charle's powers he may end up instead either killing, crippling, or even worse damaging Dan Hyuk's or his mind in the process and that's something that Raciel is not sure he could heal with Logan's Healing Factor.
In the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past, Logan is chosen to let his mind travel to the past to prevent the creation of the Sentinel because he can heal fast, and his brain never stops.
The only reason he could do it was because the damage was to the brain meaning it was physical not mental and through other movies we know that Logan is still weak against Mental Attacks.
That's the risk that Raciel will have to face if he can't convince Dan Hyuk that he is from here or that at least to not ask too much about him.
When Raciel was about to use his ability on Dan Hyuk they were interrupted by a voice.
"The Food is ready! Let's eat." Gong Kang-Dae yelled to the rest of the group.
"Looks like it is time to eat." Said Dan Hyuk after hearing Gong Kang-Dae.
"Yes, it is." Said Raciel after laughing a little bit awkwardly.
After that, Dan Hyuk stopped asking Raciel about it as if he had forgotten. Then, he stood up and approached Geum Chul to get his food. Dan Hyuk got close to Geum Chul and just waited.
Geum Chul then took the wooden bowl that Gong Kang-Dae gave him and sprinkled some salt on the soup after serving it. He then gave the bowl to Dan Hyuk after giving the dish a few touches like adding some leaves and a piece of bread.
Dan Hyuk grabbed the bowl and left the place letting the next person receive their share of food.
Dan Hyuk saw Raciel still sitting down and not getting any food.
"What are you doing sitting down? Are you not going to get some food?" Dan Hyuk asked Raciel.
"You'll need some fuel for the next day. Although you're just sitting, even doing that takes energy, Geum Chul made enough for everyone, " said Dan Hyuk.
"Alright, Thanks." Like the rest of the group, Raciel made a line to get his food.
In front of Raciel, there were 3 people only and it didn't take long by the time it was his turn to get some food. When Raciel arrived in front of Geum Chul he had already served his food in a bowl and was only adding a few condiments like salt, some leaves, and a piece of bread.
Raciel although a little weirded out by the fact that he was the only one who had his food made even before arriving at the place where Geum Chul made the soup but he still grabbed the food and left to sit towards the campfire that Pi Suck made.
It didn't take long for Geum Chul and Gong Kang-Dae to finish getting their food and sat down like the rest on the campfire.
Raciel looked around the place and saw everyone was already digging in on their food so he did the same. When Raciel sipped a little bit of the soup he couldn't help but stop.
This soup was the most bland and tasteless he had ever tried, not wanting to keep eating something like that Raciel decided to eat a piece of the bread to at least as some flavor but when he gave a bit to the bread it was hard as stone and what's worse is that it tasted like he was eating a shoe sole.
Having tried the food Raciel didn't want to eat it anymore but he still needed to eat something to get some energy. Also using superpowers costs energy that can be replenished through eating.
Raciel numbed his senses and started to eat the food like there was no tomorrow, fearing that if he slowed down a little bit he couldn't eat it anymore and could end up throwing up the food that was already in his stomach.
"Looks like the food you made today was delicious, Geum Chul." Said Dan Hyuk to Geum Chul.
"Look at the way our guest is eating the food you made." Added Dan Hyuk.
"That's True, hahaha." Everyone laughed after hearing what Dan Hyuk said.
"Hahaha…" Raciel laughed awkwardly with the rest.
After a while of laughing, everyone finally calmed down and kept eating. Dan Hyuk was the first one to finish his bowl, and after he did, he set it down on the floor.
"Raciel, where were we before we got interrupted?" Asked Dan Hyuk after setting down his bowl.
When Dan Hyuk asked this Raciel couldn't help but stop eating, the timing got awkward.
"Ah! I remember we were talking about how you are only sightseeing." Said Dan Hyuk.
"You see, when you told me that you were only sightseeing I started wondering." Said Dan Hyuk while standing up from the piece of wood that he was using to sit and pointed at Raciel.
"How did this person wander around sightseeing without any signs of luggage on him? Where does the money for travel expenses come from?" Dan Hyuk said about his doubts while walking back and forth in a circle.
"Then I remember the gold nugget you gave me, then it came to me. What if the money he needs is in another form and he needs to have no signs of luggage to hide the signals of it."
"So I concluded, You Raciel have on yourself a lot of gold nuggets that you could exchange at any time with money." Said Dan Hyuk while he took something from behind him.
What Dan Hyuk took out from behind his back was a knife, after having the knife in his hand it pointed at Raciel once again.
"Knowing this I couldn't wait anymore, so I need you to give me all the gold you have if you want your body intact." Said Dan Hyuk.
"Well, you're not lucky Dan Hyuk. I don't have any more gold on me, and even if I had, what made you believe that I would give it to you?" Said Raciel to Dan Hyuk not afraid about the threat that Dan Hyuk was giving him with the knife.
But faced with this setback Fan Hyuk didn't even flinch.
"I knew that you wouldn't be scared because of that; most of them never are." Dan Hyuk said, shruging.
"What we do know is that in a few minutes that wouldn't matter, we also would know for sure if what you said is true." Said Dan Hyuk.
"What do you mean by that?" Raciel asked Dan Hyuk with a confused face.
"When we gave you the food you're eating, we added something extra to give it some flavor: poison." Dan Hyuk replied with a wretched smirk and a pleased expression.
"This poison is one of the greatest we could find; it will kill the individual who consumes it without causing agony. It causes you to fall asleep to never wake again." Geum Chul elaborated on Dan Hyuk's comments.
Hearing what Dan Hyuk and Geum Chul said about adding poison to his food and how they will take the gold nuggets he has on him after dying, Raciel's face started to twist a little.
"Hahahaha!" All of a sudden Raciel couldn't help but start laughing.
"Hahaha, Oh my god! I'm dying of laughter, hahaha." Raciel couldn't stop laughing after learning that they just poison his food.
"I thought that you guys had something more sinister or evil but to think you only wanted to kill me with just poison, haha." Said Raciel while laughing with his hands on his stomach.
"Ah, my stomach. You made me laugh so hard that my stomach hurts." Said Raciel with tears almost falling from his eyes.
After Dan Hyuk and Geum Chul hear what Raciel said their faces turn gloomy. Nobody has ever laughed at them after learning that they have been poisoned by them.
"Why are you laughing? We poison you. Aren't you supposed to be trembling in fear and despair after learning that you are about to die?" Said Dan Hyuk after his face contorder from anger and viciousness.
"Do you think that because you poisoned me it's over?" Said Raciel suddenly after changing his tone of voice.
"I gotta say, I didn't expect that all of you would try to kill me." Said Raciel with a serious tone.
"At first I was confused because ever since we were riding on the carriage, I started to feel a killing intent."
"When I checked where it came from I saw that it was from you." Raciel then suddenly pointed his finger towards Seon Jee.
"I thought 'Maybe he doesn't like that I am riding with them' but you all started to act weird after we set camp." Raciel then looked at Dan Hyuk.
"Now I know why and I gotta say, pretty disappointing." After saying this Raciel suddenly changed the superpowers he was using.
He changes Charle's power with Psylock and he creates the violet energy blade in his right hand.
When Dan Hyuk and the rest of the group saw that they got so scared that they backed up.
"What are you?" Asked Dan Hyuk after seeing what Raciel manifested in his hand with a scared face.
"Your worst nightmare." Said Raciel.
When Dan Hyuk asked Raciel what he was he changed Logan's power for Quicksilver's.
Dan Hyuk only blinked once and a bunch of stuff falling appeared around him. When he looked at the source the only thing he saw was the rest of his crew down on the floor with their heads separated from their necks still with the scared face after seeing what Raciel manifested in his hand.
Dan Hyuk started to tremble because in front of him stood Raciel and he was reaching his hand towards his head.
"Please don't kill me, spare me!" Said Dan Hyuk with a trembling voice.
"Don't worry I have something else in mind for you." Said Raciel while touching Dan Hyuk's head.
"Now let's see what is in your head." Whisper Raciel after grabbing Dan Hyuk's head.
"What did you say?" Asked Dan Hyuk he hear Raciel whispering.
But at that exact moment an enormous and painful headache coursed through Dan Hyuk's mind.
"Ahh!" Dan Hyuk could not help but scream from the pain.
"Looks like this will take some time." Thougth Raciel after he saw how Dan Hyuk was screaming from pain after seeing how painful it was for him while he tried to read through his memories.
