Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Could It Be Related to the Rich Lady?

Just as Du Sheng was about to head back, a message came through.

"This drama is being produced by Director Zhang Zhizong. Someone will contact you tomorrow. Be prepared!"

The message was from Fan Bingbing's assistant.

"A Jin Yong adaptation currently in the works, produced by Zhang Zhizong? There's only one project that matches: Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils!

Though Du Sheng had speculated earlier, he couldn't contain his excitement now that it was confirmed.

Wuxia adaptations were wildly popular at the moment.

If history hadn't shifted too much, this upcoming version of Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils would likely be the most critically acclaimed adaptation. From costumes and sets to the cast and production quality, everything about it would be top-tier.

Even the budget was unprecedented. Millions were being spent to construct a dedicated Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils film city for authenticity—a truly lavish production.

Since entering the industry, Du Sheng had never been involved in such a high-profile project.

Now, he had a chance to participate!

It was impossible not to marvel at the fickle nature of fate.

It was reminiscent of Huang Boqiang, who had also started from humble beginnings but was directly chosen to play a leading role.

Although Du Sheng's start wasn't as dramatic, it wasn't a bad beginning either.

The only question was, which role would he audition for?

The iconic trio of Qiao Feng, Duan Yu, and Xu Zhu? That was out of the question.

Even side characters like You Tanzhi or the Four Evils seemed unlikely.

With such a massive investment and Zhang Zhizong as producer, countless eyes would be vying for these roles.

"The opportunity is there, but securing a role will require preparation."

Du Sheng was well aware of his disadvantages.

With his foster father still in the hospital, there was no one to lend him a hand.

Fortunately, he had his golden finger—the lottery system. Acting skills wouldn't be an issue; what he needed was a breakthrough performance.

If he could demonstrate a stark contrast to higher-priced actors, his value would become evident. After all, hiring him would cost significantly less than a second-tier celebrity.

Investors had already been grumbling about Zhang Zhizong's extravagant spending habits.

Additionally, Du Sheng could potentially leverage connections with the investors—such as the rich lady he had encountered last night!

After all, they'd shared a "close encounter" earlier this year (a car crash, no less). That was a bond in itself!

When opportunities didn't present themselves, one had to create them.

Du Sheng had briefly considered taking a minor role in a lesser production to farm some skills. But given the low rewards and waste of annual lottery attempts, he dismissed the idea.

Even if he didn't use all his annual attempts, he could save them for later, when his status improved, to secure better roles with higher rewards.

The next morning, Du Sheng was up early, dressed in a formal suit that made him look like a door-to-door insurance salesman.

Yawning, Wang Yaoyang emerged from his room, visibly fatigued after staying up all night playing a guard in a production.

"Where are you off to, dressed like that?" Wang asked, rubbing his eyes.

Without looking up, Du Sheng polished his slightly dusty shoes and replied, "My stomach's been acting up, so I thought I'd find a rich lady to take care of me."

Wang Yaoyang: "…"

Ouch. That was a critical hit!

Wang was already envious of Du Sheng's height and good looks.

If he had those qualities, he'd have been living off sugar mommies long ago—no need to scrape by in Hengdian.

With arranged marriages being trendy in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Wang figured Du Sheng had finally seen the light.

"Brother Sheng! If you've got any extra connections, could you bring me along?" Wang asked eagerly.

"I don't mind if she's in her thirties, even forties—just not too big or muscular, please!"

Wang was realistic about his limitations. He knew he couldn't handle anyone too strong.

Du Sheng glanced at Wang's farmer-like appearance and sarcastically suggested, "I know a rich lady who's turning sixty in a few days. She needs someone to carry her banner. Interested?"

Wang looked like his soul had left his body but eventually muttered, "Does her household registration include my name?"

If it did, maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

After all, even a salted fish could dream.

If he had to endure, he'd at least choose the most comfortable way. Who knew? He might achieve his dreams in less than ten years.

Du Sheng adjusted his hair and replied dismissively, "Go back to bed. Maybe you'll get lucky in your dreams."

He wouldn't dare take such risks without his newly acquired special skill, so there was no chance for someone like Wang.

As Du Sheng stepped out, his phone rang.

After hanging up, his expression turned peculiar.

Wang, seeing this, assumed Du Sheng had struck out before even trying and burst into laughter.

"Don't be discouraged! Lower your standards a bit, and you'll find plenty of options."

The thought that even someone like Du Sheng was getting rejected by rich ladies made Wang feel much better about his own situation.

But before Wang could finish savoring the schadenfreude, Du Sheng's casual comment shattered him completely:

"The director's assistant called—they're sending me the script to study. Looks like I won't need to meet any rich ladies for now."

Du Sheng glanced at his outfit, lamenting that it wouldn't be put to use.

"The director's sending you a script!?" Wang shot up from his bed.

"Which production?"

"Zhang Dahuzi's production."

"Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils!?"

Wang froze, his eyes wide with disbelief. "Holy crap! What kind of dog-luck did you stumble into?"

Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils was this year's most anticipated drama. Wang knew it well.

Being sent a script by the director wasn't something that happened to minor characters. This was a stepping stone to stardom!

Wang's envious expression was beyond words.

They were both stunt actors. Just recently, Wang had landed a minor role with some pride. But now, it felt like he'd been struck by lightning.

The gap between them was staggering.

"It's just an audition. Why are you so excited?" Du Sheng said calmly.

After all, passing the audition was the real challenge.

"Of course, I'm excited! This is a guaranteed hit. Any role in it will launch your career!"

Wang's chest heaved as he struggled to accept the reality.

Another Wang Baoqiang was about to emerge.

Realizing that he shared part of Wang Baoqiang's name only worsened Wang's anxiety.

"Gotta go, don't want to keep them waiting." Du Sheng turned and left, ignoring Wang's incredulous expression.

As he walked, Du Sheng pondered the situation.

It was surprising that Ju Jueliang had sent someone to find him.

Ju might have an awkward name, but anyone in the industry knew that after struggling for a few years in mainland China, his career had skyrocketed. He even won the White Magnolia Award for Best Director.

The turning point had been when Jin Yong recommended him for The Legend of the Condor Heroes.

If nothing changed, Ju would go on to direct major productions like Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, Against

the Current, and Water Margin.

Du Sheng recalled Ju and Zhong Zhen's presence at the bar last night.

"Could this really be connected to the rich lady?"
