Exiled Young Girl’s Territory Development Record: The Result of the Villainous Young Lady Who Was Exiled Before the Scenario Began and Did Whatever She Wanted for the People.

Chapter 62: The Exiled Girl Considers a Major Village Renovation

After constructing the reservoir to prevent the outflow of gold dust, I decided to undertake a major renovation of the village.

Because, well, if I find a gold vein, Scarletford is bound to develop, right?

That means the town will need to expand, so we’ll need more places for people to live, and to support them, we’ll have to expand the farmlands and pastures as well.

Also, I heard that gold refining apparently uses lead. That means pollution could occur, so we can’t do it near the town or close to water sources, right?

And since the mine is upstream of the river, issues like toxic mining waste could arise, right?

So, we should establish proper urban planning now and proceed with developing the town accordingly.

Oh, and I’m thinking of decommissioning the gate on the Clarinton side and preparing thoroughly for whenever my biological father decides to attack.

I mean, he’s the crazy guy who kicked me out just because I have black hair and eyes, right?

Marie is worried he might start nitpicking about it, but I think it wouldn’t be strange if he sent soldiers.

After all, he was willing to engage in kidnapping and human trafficking without a second thought. I’m sure he’s up to other nasty things too.

Of course, I don’t know if he’ll actually attack, but I don’t really know what kind of person my biological father is.

I mean, the first and last time I met and spoke to him was the night I was exiled.

Oh, by the way, there’s no information about my biological father in the “Magical Academy” storyline.

You see, the Marquis of Southbury never actually appears in “Magical Academy.” My stepmother and stepbrother showed up, but not him.

What’s odd is that the villainess, Olivia, was spending money like water as the “Daughter of the Marquis of Southbury.”

Would that biological father of mine really allow such a thing?

Oh, and now that I think about it, Marie wasn’t in the story either. Instead, Olivia the villainess strutted around the academy with a large entourage of followers.

But that might be because the setting was the magic academy. At fifteen years old, still being with a nanny would definitely make her seem childish, right?

Anyway, since it feels like the plot has already twisted off course, there’s no point in worrying about it now.

In any case, I’m planning to build solid defensive structures on the side of the Marquisate of Southbury.

That being said, the road to Clarinton is already overgrown with bushes, and I’ve even had the bridge over the small river at the border taken down, but better safe than sorry, right?

Oh, and while we were digging the reservoir, we dumped the leftover soil on their side to block the path. I’ve already done that.

Well, no problem, right? Probably.

Setting that aside, I’m also thinking of installing a water supply system while we’re at it. I don’t want to be without drinking water, and I don’t want the place to reek of filth.

But hmm, how do you even build a water supply system? I’m not really familiar with that, so maybe I should call in an expert from somewhere?

Alright. When in doubt, consult Marie.

With that in mind, I headed to Marie’s office.

“Marie.”

“Yes, my lady. How may I assist you?”

“Well, the thing is…”

I explained to her that I was thinking of doing a major renovation of the village.

“I see. However, I have never heard of a sewer system.”

“Really?”

“Yes. Water supply systems were installed in some parts of Southbury. I’ve heard Southport has one as well, but I haven’t heard of it elsewhere.”

“I see. So, what did they do with, you know, the waste?”

“Some of it was collected, but many people simply dumped it in the vicinity.”

“Ehh!? Just around? But it didn’t smell that bad, though? Was mine properly collected and disposed of?”

“Yes.”

“I see. Now that you mention it, there was a strange smell when we passed through town by carriage.”

“Yes. And I believe it would be better not to dump human waste in this village.”

“What do you mean?”

“I hear it’s being used as fertilizer.”

“What!? Really?”

“Yes. They collect it and, after some special processing, use it as fertilizer.”

“Huh, I see. That’s quite a tricky issue. Should I ask Bob?”

“Yes, I think consulting Bob would be the best course of action.”

“Alright, I’ll handle the water supply, but I’ll think about the sewer system.”

“Yes.”

After consulting her about other matters as well, I decided to prioritize the construction of a dam for the village’s water supply and the defensive facilities in the southeast.

Meanwhile, back at the Marquisate of Southbury, a wealthy-looking middle-aged man visited the Marquis’s residence. He was greeted in the reception room by Brian.

“What brings you here so suddenly? The gown for my lady’s evening party isn’t finished yet, is it?”

“I’m here urgently because of a rumor circulating in the capital.”

“A rumor?”

“Yes. There’s a troubling rumor going around that the Marquis of Southbury was possessed by a demon, violently assaulted his own daughter, murdered her, and dumped her in the Forest of Demons to cover it up.”

Brian gave him a look of exasperation.

“You came all the way here just to report such a baseless, ridiculous rumor?”

“Well, that’s how you might see it, but the capital is abuzz with it. The rumor has spread from palace maids to church officials, and it’s being exaggerated and twisted into an entertaining tale.”

“Exaggerated?”

“Yes. There’s talk that the second wife—your lady—killed her in order to have her own child inherit, or that the marquis was jealous of his daughter’s talents and did it himself.”

Brian let out a deep sigh.

“Isn’t it your job to deal with that sort of thing?”

“Don’t you find it odd? Not a word of this in Southbury, yet in the capital, this kind of rumor is rampant?”

Brian narrowed his eyes sharply.

“Furthermore, a different rumor is spreading in the Lazlo region. The Marquis of Southbury supposedly despised his black-haired, black-eyed daughter from his previous marriage and abandoned her in the Forest of Demons, hoping to kill her. But because she was a genius, she survived by her own power and eventually allied with the Earl of Lazlo. When she grows up, she’ll lead an army of ten thousand for revenge.”

“Strange, isn’t it? The Marquis of Southbury and the late Lady Elfriede didn’t have any children, let alone a daughter.”

Brian stared harshly at the man.

“To travel between Lazlo and the capital, you usually pass through the Marquisate of Southbury, correct?”

“Yes. No one would go out of their way to take the sea route.”

“So why, then, are completely different rumors about a nonexistent daughter spreading in two distant places at the same time?”

“…In other words, someone is deliberately spreading these rumors to discredit our marquis?”

“That’s possible.”

“Who!? Who could it be!?”

The man gave a knowing smile.

“You know something, don’t you? Tell me! That’s your—”

“Oh no, I don’t know anything. Unfortunately, we aren’t as well-staffed or well-funded as they are, as you know. So, it’s a bit difficult for us…”

The man smiled slyly as he spoke.

“…Fine. We’ll increase the budget. In exchange, make sure to thoroughly investigate the mastermind behind this.”

“Leave it to us. Now then…”

With that, Brian and the man began discussing the specifics of the increased funding.
