Commentary on Chapter 40. Seven. Part 2. The Library of Heaven.
Enjoy your reading!!!
Walking into the tower, Eros was very surprised at the sheer number of mages inside, there were just over three hundred of them, and there were hardly any regular people there. In the very centre of the tower stood a small table, behind which sat an old man of advanced age, dressed in a grey cloak, from under which you could only see a pair of wrinkled hands. In front of him stood a large queue of mages holding books.
The hall itself was a huge room without any decorations, only a couple of chandeliers on the ceiling. There were dozens of tables with people sitting at them and one in the centre of the room with an old man behind it.
Eros immediately got in line. He was going to explore all three levels, still, even in those books, there had to be something interesting. It had happened once before, when Eros had found an ordinary history book, in which there was a coded message to some Roil Macron with coordinates to a certain place. And after reading more about this very man, Eros discovered that he was a notorious thief and the titan surmised that this very thief had stolen wealth there. But it was sad that the coordinates were also encrypted, and on which map to read them was also unknown.
It was Eros' turn and as soon as he stood in front of him, the old man's hand trembled. The Titan noticed it, but decided to ignore it, although he immediately realised that the old man had smelled his power.
- Rarely do we get such young and talented wizards, - he said in a calm voice, - What level do you want to get to?
- I'll start with 'mortal'," he took out a book from his bag that he had bought on the way and handed it to him, "Here.
- Okay, you have access to the first thirty floors," the old man replied without even looking at it.
- And if I give you two more, I can access the whole tower at once? - Eros immediately felt the old man tense up.
- It is possible, but do you think you have a book of such a high level?
- I do.
- But I warn you that even the ancient ones that are four hundred years old will not be enough.
The Titan smiled in response and handed over two more books.
- Hm... - taking the first one, the old man quickly flipped through it and put it aside, - The next ten floors are open to you, - and taking the last one, without cover and title, he opened it and after flipping through only two pages, closed it abruptly, - Where did you get such a valuable thing and who is its author?! - he asked in an excited voice.
For a moment his hood was pulled back slightly, revealing a gleaming, greed-filled gaze. But this was no ordinary greed, it was a greed for knowledge.....
- It's my research, so what? - That book was the true story of the disappearance of the dragons with all the facts that Eros had been able to glean over the years. The Titan didn't care if anyone found out about it, because it didn't matter to him.
- I don't know if you're telling the truth or not, but it has to be verified by four others first.
- I'll wait.
- If that's the case," the old man whispered something in his ear to a boy of seventeen, who nodded and ran up the stairs, "until my colleagues arrive, don't tell me about yourself, I'd like to know as much as possible about such a prominent mage and your teacher.
- I'm just a mediocre mage from Fiore studying history.
- You must be joking.
- No jokes, - Eros replied with a slight smile, the old man in front of him was not a stupid man and immediately realised that the titan did not want to answer or tell anything about himself, so he simply closed the subject and in silence they waited for his colleagues.
Behind Eros' back, many people had been discussing the fact that the titan had been able to make the old man summon the four judges, and almost everyone was curious about what was written in that book that had aroused the old man's interest. Some people left the Celestial Library to pass the news on to their guild leaders or bosses, it's not something that happens every day. Others were betting on whether he would pass to the Divine Level or be rejected....
Five minutes later, four old men began to descend the stairs, followed by a man in his thirties. The old men were wearing the same cloaks and only the man stood out. He had blond hair, grey eyes and a slightly intimidating face, especially the small scar on his forehead. He was wearing a gold patterned shirt and long black trousers made of a very good fabric, as well as steel boots, and just from his appearance alone, one could tell that if you were to be kicked in such shoes, you wouldn't get off with mere bruises.
"Strong..."- The titan thought with surprise, looking at the smiling man, - "I wouldn't like to fight him, or I'll have to unleash my power, but I guess it won't be without a fight..."- Eros thought with a slight annoyance when he saw the fighting spirit in the man's eyes.
- It's been a long time since we've been down here, so show us what you're so impressed with," one of them said with a slight chuckle.
- Don't drool," he said with a chuckle, handing them the book.
- You can't surprise me, because I've seen a lot of things," he said, stroking his beard with arrogance.
- Well, well...
Taking the book, the old man opened it and began to read, the other four joined him, but not even a minute later they exhaled heavily and looked at the book in disbelief.
- How we didn't realise it, it was all on the surface... "Black Perdition", how we couldn't understand who it was about... - he said with annoyance, looking at the cover of the book, - Who is the author, I want to personally shake his hand.
- This kid claims to be the author.
The old men looked at Eros with disappointment, they just couldn't believe that some boy could know what they didn't know. Still, they are called the Five Masters of Knowledge for a reason, after all, they are the smartest people in the country. And with their arrogance, they couldn't even think of such a thing.
- Hmm... We give you access to the "Divine" level, - having said that, he stopped paying attention to Eros and all five old men went up the stairs, only the man remained, who continued to actively stare at the titan."I don't really care whether you believe me or not, I won't be seeing you again in a couple of months anyway..."- ignoring the admiring/envious stares, the titan walked towards the stairs.
- And I believe you," the smiling man said as Eros walked past him, "I'm Kuld.
- Eros.
- Eros is a strange name, I read in a book that it was the name of one of the gods of love and debauchery.
- I've never heard of it," Eros's eye twitched for a moment, "And yours, Golden Hen... is it?
- Almost," Kuld said with a bloodthirsty grin on his face, "My name translates to 'Golden Dragon' and soon you'll understand why I was named that.
- And how well...? - the titan turned his head to the right, missing Kuld's punch by a centimetre from his face, -So is this going to be rather boring, maybe you'll choose something else? - with a slight smile on his lips, Eros said, moving to the right from a kick and the next moment, blocking a fist five centimetres from his face.
- Come on, let's go outside.
- No, I didn't come here to fight," Eros walked past the man and towards the stairs, "But if there's something interesting at stake, I'll think about it.
Kuld didn't pursue him, but the Library of Heaven has its own rules, and one of them is "no fighting", because if you break that rule, you'll be blacklisted and you won't be able to visit it again. And he knows that rule better than anyone, so he didn't go on. And what had just happened could hardly be called a fight, just a simple exchange of blows.
"Still strong though, he's much stronger than that jerk Nicolas and if I defeat him..."- A wide grin appeared on Kloud's face as he stared back at the departing Eros.

"What does he want? I just wanted to travel in peace, to see the world..."- The titan thought with annoyance as he felt a pair of eyes on his back, "Eh..."
Climbing up the stairs, he saw the sign "Mortal 1-30" and an arrow pointing to the right, to an open room, and to the left was a staircase upwards.
"That must be the next floor, but it's too early for me to go up there."- he entered the room and was slightly surprised to see the number of books lying on the simple wooden shelves. There were tens of thousands of them, but one thing that was a pity was that they were completely useless to him.
On the ground floor, there were also quite a few people, almost all of them reading their chosen books standing up, as there was not a single chair in the room, some were sitting on the floor or leaning against the wall.
"Yeah... I feel like this is going to be a long time coming, so I'll have to be patient and hope I'm not doing this for nothing..."- Taking a deep breath, he put on his Hurricane Reading Goggles, picked up a book from the shelf closest to him, flipped through it quickly and put it back down, "The Rule for Cleaning a Spyglass... What the hell?!" - taking the next book, Eros opened it for a moment and put it back, - "How to make fertiliser from go..." What did I just read?! - and looking around the entire ground floor again, a lone male tear rolled down his cheek....
