Chapter 1: GETTING THE MISSUS
JAKE'S POV
"I promise you, you're gonna have fun."
I motion to my secretary, Donna to convince Jason that coming to a nightclub was the best way to get over his breakup with Crazy Cassie. She looks at me, clearly bored out of her mind already, and gives a non-committal shrug.
"Do I get paid extra for agreeing with you?" She asks. I try my best to not strangle her. She's such a money grubber.
"Yes, you get paid extra alongside the overtime fee." Her face brightens a bit, and I can see Jason shaking his head in utter disappointment at her.
"Jason, I'll tell you this once so listen up. The best way to get over someone is by getting under someone else. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go get us drinks. With your credit card, of course." She winks at me before scurrying off to the bar. Jason releases a deflated sigh while staring longingly at Donna.
Ever since she started working for me three years ago, my best friend has had this irrevocable crush on her. Of course, I totally understand why; Donna looks like a cross between a very beautiful angel and a very slutty one. It was the reason why I hired her in the first place. But, being the strong headed girl that she is, she refused to go out with him even before he had the chance to ask her; any friend of mine was not worth dating according to her. To be honest though, I was a little pleased that he was also rejected. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself knowing that a girl who rejected me somehow decided to accept Jason instead. I have managed to get him to forget about her and date someone new, but that works only temporarily.
"The thing is," Jason says as we walk over to the VIP section, shouting a little so I can hear him over the loud music. "I'm not trying to get over Cassie, I broke up with her remember? I just don't feel like sleeping with anyone at the moment, that's all."
I stop us from going any further and stare at Jason like he has just sprouted another head. Leave it to him to say the most ridiculous things and feel the most useless of emotions on a daily.
"Okay, that is the most stupidest statement you've ever made in your entire life, and you once said that you'd wait until you were married before having sex."
We kept walking until we got to our corner of the section, white leather couches splayed for us to relax into, a beautiful marble center table with a bucket of champagne and flutes lined up all ready for us. We take our seats and one of the workers comes over to pour our drinks. I smile a little, knowing that Donna will be furious when she gets back from the bar. Serves her right for taking my card.
"Jake, I really am not in the mood for sex, okay? I just…I just want to drink tonight and have fun with you guys."
"If Donna offered to sleep with you right now, will you be in the mood for sex?" He perks up instantly, the blue in his eyes brighter than earlier. I roll my eyes at him and resist the urge to smack him.
"So, all you want is a gorgeous girl to sleep with. No problem. Tonight, I'll be your wingman. Do you understand what that means? I am putting your sexual needs before mine. You cannot tell me after this that I do not care about you, Jason Marole, you simply cannot." He smiles a little, but tries to hide it behind his flute.
My game face is set and I begin to search for the person who can make Donna look like Madonna's knockoff. It doesn't take me up to a minute to figure out how impossible my quest is. Don't get me wrong, there are beautiful women here, but Donna is next level gorgeous and next to her, these women here look like third runner ups in a beauty pageant. Every single one of them…
My eyes settle in on a blond-haired girl with the bluest intrinsic eyes I have ever seen in my life. They looked like clear cut sapphires even under the dim lights the private lounge had to offer. I keep staring at her, thinking maybe it wasn't such a bad idea if Jason decides to go celibate for the night.
"Ooh, I like her." I snap out of my daze and turn to see Jason ogling my catch hungrily. I have half the mind to slap him. Earlier on, he said he didn't want to be with anyone. What a fickle man!
Donna strolls in, her hips swaying as she moves, brown luscious hair moving with her. Jason is back to watching her like she's priceless art and I suddenly feel very bad for him. I decide to get him Sapphire Eyes' number.
"Where are out drinks?" I ask as she approaches us empty handed. She humphs as she sits and crosses her legs. Like dogs that we are, I and Jason's eyes follow them up to the hem of her inappropriately short suit skirt.
"I decided to get something else with your card today." She dangles a black club card in front of us. My eyes turn to slit. That girl just spent ten grand on a useless VIP card that I didn't need since I was already a VIP!
"That's coming out of your salary and bonuses." She pouts and leans back in, while Jason makes to soothe her by handing her a flute. I have a feeling that his end goal is to get her drunk before the night ends. Shaking my head at the pair of them, I turn and march over to the other girl's table.
The first thing I notice as I approach are her long, silky legs. I nod in approval and try my best to not go for her myself. She's wearing a black, backless dress with the V at the front so low, you could almost see her bellybutton. I get a glimpse of her breasts and I feel something stir in me. Damn, they were fine!
"No," she says before I have the chance to speak. I stare at her incredulously, highly impressed that she was able to say that without me even asking. Donna is the one person who has refused me like that before, but unlike Donna, she was going to say yes after I do ask. They all do.
"I didn't say anything," I respond, taking the seat beside her. She smiles at me and I can tell she's trying her best to not instantly fall for me. This makes me smile.
"No, but I know what you were going to say and the answer is no." Contrary to what she says, she leans in just enough for me to get another glimpse.
Jason, the things I do for you.
"I'm just going to cut to the chase. I think you're beautiful. Easily the second prettiest girl in the room." She raises her eye brows questioningly.
"Second?"
"Well, my assistant's here with me today, but I can assure you you're a close second." I wink at her just as she is about to frown at my statement, and her lips remain upwardly curved.
"However, despite the fact that you check my boxes, I am not here for me. You see my friend over there," I point at Jason, "He just got out of a very serious relationship. He'd been seeing this girl for two weeks now and they just broke up."
"I had no idea a two-week relationship was considered serious nowadays. Interesting." Her tone is dripping with sarcasm, but I can tell she finds it amusing and a bit intriguing too.
"It is by our standards. Anyways, I promised him I'll get him the number of the prettiest girl in the bar today and that's why I'm here."
"I thought I was the second?" she raises her glass and sips her wine. That's when I see it, sitting bright and shiny on her fourth finger. An engagement ring. My face sags and I suddenly feel deflated. I had a no-hooking-up-with-anyone-in-a-serious-relationship rule and that rule also extended to the girls I picked up for Jason. An engagement ring was just as serious as a wedding ring in my opinion.
"Well, your friend Jason is very cute, but I'm afraid I would have to decline." She dangles her left hand in front of me, making sure I see the diamond. I see it alright. I'm a little pissed she did, but I'm glad she didn't try to hide it and cheat on her fiancé.
"If it were you on the other hand, I may have considered it." Her smile is most definitely suggestive and her wink just proves that she wants me. I cock my head to the side, drinking her in. Man, I like her a lot. She is totally my type, but that ring on her finger poses a huge hindrance to my being happy tonight.
Just then, her phone goes off on the table and she peers down to look at the caller. My eyes widen and twinkle in delight as I see the caller ID, saved as 'My Man' and the picture attached to it. He is her fiancé? Matthew Declancey is her future husband? Suddenly my rule doesn't apply to her anymore.
Sapphire Eyes ignores it and gives me her undivided attention. I smile brightly, drawing closer to her and place my hand delicately on her exposed thigh. I feel her shudder and hear her suck in a breath. I am going to break her.
"Listen Doll Face, I have a different proposition for you. Since you don't want my friend, why don't you have me instead? I'm sure I can find someone else for him in here."
"I have a fiancé, remember?"
"If that's an issue with you, why is my hand where it is?" She looks down at my hand that is now a long way up her minidress. She feigns surprise, but I know she could already feel where my hand was and which direction it was headed. I can see that she wants to. She wants me even though she hides behind her ring and claim that she doesn't. I look into her eyes, giving her that charming stare I know that'll inadvertently make her blush and look away from me, leading to her firewall breaking down. Just as I expected, she blushes and bends her head, a smile playing at her lips.
"My name's Gina by the way," she says and stretches her hand out for me. I take it in my free hand, feeling it get lost in my huge one and wrap it gently with my fingers before placing a long, sensual kiss on it. Her blush deepens.
"I'm Jake. So, Gina, do you want to get out of here?"
She hesitates, but at this point I don't know why she bothers playing hard to get. Nodding her head, she begins to pack up her things.
"I'll be right back."
Striding back to my friends, I can't help but feel exhilarated. Matthew Declancey has a diamond for a fiancé – at least she is a diamond physically – and I couldn't help but wonder how a square like himself was able to bag a beauty like her. I couldn't even be mad at the fact that she also found him attractive enough to say yes to him. I wasn't the one spending the rest of my life with a cheat.
"So, did you get it?" Jason eyes me expectantly. I stretch my hand out for Donna to place my credit card back in my hands. I didn't want her holding on to it anymore just in case she gets drunk and decides she wants to shop at Tiffany & Co.
"I got it alright," I respond to him. His eyes light up and he brings his palm to me.
"Sorry buddy, but she's mine." His face falls instantaneously and Donna gives an incredulous shriek, emitting words I never thought I'd hear her say.
"I can't believe you stole his rebound! You are the worst wingman ever."
'Oh, relax Donna. It's not like I'm planning on leaving him dry. What if I get you three 'fun girls' instead?" Jason eyes me suspiciously. He and his trust issues.
"'Fun girls'? You mean hookers?"
"No, I mean fun girls." I wiggle my brows at him. Donna looks outraged.
"If you think for one second that Jason is gonna accept the offer of a couple of prostitutes to be his companion for tonight, you are highly…"
"Okay." Jason's consent shuts her up instantly. When she realizes that glaring at him doesn't work, she looks away and grabs her champagne while muttering "I don't know why I even bother with you two. You'll still do what you want."
"Great. I'll speak to the manager and have them come down to you. Donna, I command you to not leave his side. It is part of your official duties." She rolls her eyes but doesn't object to my instruction.
I get back to Gina and see that she's already waiting for me. Her eagerness is no longer subtle and is plastered all over her face. As I get to the exit right after instructing the manager to take good care of Jason, I wonder if I can convince her to let me take a video of us. I could just imagine the look on Matthew's face when he sees me banging his girl. That would be a very nice wedding gift, if I do say so myself.
