Chapter 31: mystery to solve and realm to save
Lyra's heart was racing as she tried to process what was happening. The figure, tall and imposing, stood behind Kael, its presence seeming to fill the entire space.
"Who are you?" Lyra demanded, trying to keep her voice steady.
The figure didn't respond, but instead reached out and touched Kael's forehead. Kael's eyes flashed open, and he turned to Lyra with a strange, glassy stare.
"Lyra," Kael said, his voice low and robotic. "I have been waiting for you."
Lyra's skin crawled as she realized that Kael was no longer in control of his own actions. The figure behind him seemed to be manipulating him, using him for its own purposes.
"What do you want?" Lyra asked, trying to stall for time.
The figure didn't respond, but instead began to move closer to Lyra. Kael, still under the figure's control, began to move closer as well, his eyes fixed on Lyra with an unnerving intensity.
Lyra knew that she had to act fast. She reached deep within herself, calling upon the powers of the Dreamrealm to aid her. The air around her began to shimmer and distort, as she summoned a blast of energy to drive the figure back.
But as the energy struck the figure, it simply absorbed it, growing stronger and more powerful with each passing moment. Lyra realized, to her horror, that the figure was not just a simple enemy - it was a creature of the Dreamrealm itself, one that had been twisted and corrupted by some unknown force.
The figure raised its hand, and Lyra felt a wave of darkness wash over her. She stumbled back, her vision blurring, as the figure began to laugh - a cold, mirthless sound that seemed to come from the very depths of the Dreamrealm itself.
And then, everything went black.
When Lyra came to, she found herself back in the Garden of Dreams, surrounded by the familiar sights and sounds of the Dreamrealm. But something was off - the garden seemed different, somehow, as if it had been subtly altered while she was unconscious.
Kael stood beside her, his eyes back to normal. "Lyra, I'm so sorry," he said, his voice filled with concern. "I don't know what happened. I was under some kind of control..."
Lyra shook her head, still trying to process what had happened. "It's not your fault, Kael," she said. "We were both caught off guard. But we need to figure out what's going on, and fast. The Dreamrealm is in danger, and we're the only ones who can save it."
Kael nodded, his eyes determined. "Then let's get to work," he said. "We have a mystery to solve, and a realm to save."
