Fate's Enchantment

Chapter 13: Chapter 12: I thought you were going to starve me!

As Aoi was about to leave her room to head to Zhao Han's quarters, the door creaked open, and Zhao Han stepped in. "Aoi, your lunch," he announced, holding a plate brimming with an assortment of foods. The rich aroma of the dishes filled the room, making her stomach rumble in anticipation.

"I thought you were going to starve me!" Aoi exclaimed with a playful smile as she took the plate from him. She sat down at the small table in her room, her eyes scanning the delicious spread before her. As she began to eat, she noticed Zhao Han lingering in the doorway, a contemplative look on his face.

"Do you want to say something?" Aoi asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.

"I've got the permission to make you Tàizǐfēi," Zhao Han said, his gaze locking onto hers. His brown eyes shone in the sunlight streaming through the window, giving them an almost ethereal glow.

So quick?! And there's no drama going on?! So weird... Aoi pushed the thoughts aside and smiled politely. "Thank you, Zhao Han," she replied, her voice laced with fake sweetness.

Zhao Han's expression softened, and he took a step closer. "I've brought a few servants and maids for you as well. They will stay with you from now on and take care of your safety."

Aoi glanced at the people standing behind him, her suspicion growing. Why do those girls look so masculine? They have better physiques than me... if by chance, they know martial arts, it's surely going to be better than me. Heavens, I'd rather not mess with them and serve them instead!

She quickly masked her expressions, adopting a neutral demeanor. "You don't have to do that..." she added with an awkward chuckle.

"I must do this. I cannot risk the Taizifei being in danger. These maids are gentle and untrained in martial arts; they are the ideal candidates for you," Zhao Han stated, his tone persuasive. However, his words did not persuade Aoi. She practiced martial arts herself. What does he think? That I cannot fight? That I am weak? He is so exasperating! Suppressing her thoughts once again, she nodded.

Little did they know, both were lying to each other from the start. Zhao Han didn't feel happy or protective of Aoi because he liked her, but because she was useful. While Aoi wasn't friendly and comfortable with Zhao Han because she was, but because she needed to get her aunt back.

As she continued to eat, Aoi's mind raced with thoughts of her next move. She knew she had to be cautious. Zhao Han's sudden kindness and the introduction of new maids only heightened her suspicions. She couldn't afford to let her guard down, not when so much was at stake. She needed to do the things quick and leave the palace as soon as possible. But even if her aunt is not in palace, where could she be?

Zhao Han is not trustable at all.

Aoi chose two maids to serve her personally, Yue Ning and Yue Qian.
