Fate’s Scholar:Rewriting the Heavens

Chapter 3: Xue Yan’s trouble

Xue Yan stepped outside the cave, her calm expression from the conversation before with Zhao Wei was gone, now replaced by a torrent of anger and sorrow. The sky was barely lit by the time she has come out, the light rays from the sun got filtered through the trees casting a dim light on Xue Yan hair.

Xue Yan wasn't please by the scenery, instead the scenery brings great sorrow to her, remembering the tragedy that has occurred 4 days ago, she tightened her grip on the sword.

[I wont let their death be in vain]

Four days had passed since the mystic realm opened. The Verdant Cloud Sect and Emerald Sky Sect had formed a temporary truce to share the realm's treasures. The first day passed peacefully, with both sects working together. the second day arrived and the Verdant Cloud Sect discovered a treasure map—an artifact coveted by cultivators across the realm. After consulting with the Emerald Sky Sect, they agreed to venture toward the marked shrine together.

The Emerald Sky Sect's elders readily agreed. But at the shrine, the truth revealed itself: the Emerald Sky Sect betrayed them. Their disciples turned on the Verdant Cloud Sect, slaughtering everyone in their path. Xue Yan survived only because two of her elders sacrificed themselves to shield her, their young miss.

A tear slipped down her cheek as she recalled the event.

[Maybe Brother was right. I'm still too inexperienced to step outside the sect].

Her impulsive agreement to the Emerald Sky Sect's proposal had caused this catastrophe. As young miss of the Verdant Cloud Sect, her authority was first above others,But great power comes with great responsibility. She didnt listen to the advices of her elders now guilt consumed her as she fled from those who had caused their deaths.

Survival became her only goal. She walked deeper into the forest until she found a clearing, hoping for a brief break in her escape.

Sitting in lotus position, she closed her eyes to replenish her depleted qi. Though exhausted, she couldn't rest long. A rustling noise broke her concentration—leaves brushing against something, footsteps crunching softly. Her eyes snapped open, body tensing.

One hand gripped her sword's sheath while the other hovered near its hilt, ready to strike.

Then came the voices.

"That girl escaped... now we have to find her," one disciple complained.

"She couldn't have gotten far. She should be close," another replied, followed by the sound of a hand tapping on a shoulder.

The third disciple nodded in agreement.

She couldn't see them clearly but she knew that they were the members of the emerald sky sect.

Their voices faded after a while, and Xue Yan released a quiet breath.

[That was too close.]

As she prepared to move, a sudden rush of wind split the air. Her eyes darted toward the disturbance to see a green arc flying at her.

Emerald Sword Arts?!

She twisted away, barely dodging the strike that cleaved through the air.

"Ah, you dodged it?" A voice called from behind the bush, thick with mockery. A man emerged, two others following.

Xue Yan's gaze hardened. "You... Li Huangxi?"

Li Huangxi's grin widened. "Oh? You remember my name? I'm truly honored to have my name etched in the young miss's mind." Sarcasm dripped from every word.

Xue Yan's fingers twitched on her sword hilt as her mind raced for escape. Li Huangxi's grin grew wider, savoring his apparent victory. His two disciples wore equally smug expressions, their eyes gleaming with confidence.

"The elders will praise me." Li Huangxi said as if he had already won.

Seeing his confident expression Xue Yan raged but she forced a smile and asked."Still as arrogant as ever huh,Li Huangxi, Do you truly believe that you can capture me that easily?"

Li Huangxi stepped forward with a chuckle. "Oh,miss Xue Yan, you are overestimating yourself. Days of running have exhausted you. Even the greatest cultivators have limits." His eyes flicked between her sword and face. "But don't worry, I'll make this quick. After all, I can't let you interfere with my plans.

[Damn it, Fighting them is impossible Li Huangxi himself is already at the peak of qi condensation realm, i am only at the eighth layer, and there are also those 2.Judging by their aura they seem to be in sixth and seventh realm.]

Xue Yan maintained a blank expression. She had to think, not react. Her mind calculated distances and terrain. She wasn't finished yet.

"You think you can stop me with those two?" She raised an eyebrow, voice laden with contempt. "I am not as weak as you think"

"Oh?" Li Huangxi's smile widened, curiosity clearly apparent across his face.As if he is making fun if her.

Xue Yan raised her sword, its blade catching the dim light. "I still have a trick or two up my sleeve."

She burst forward with unexpected speed, becoming a shadow among shadows. Her sword flashed silver as she moved. Li Huangxi and his disciples barely reacted before she reached them.

With a precise twist, she deflected the first disciple's strike, steel ringing against steel. In the same motion, her free hand flicked a hidden talisman. The air shimmered as a barrier materialized around her, blocking their attacks and buying precious moments.

"A shielding artifact?"Li Huangxi squinted his eyes.

Xue Yan's mind raced as she fought. She couldn't defeat all three—not in her condition. But speed and wit might save her.

[I just need to move out of the forest—]

Pain lanced through her side. A disciple's blade had found her when her barrier flickered for just a moment.

She gritted her teeth as blood soaked her robes, refusing to slow down. She had to move.

A wicked laugh echoed behind her. "You should've stayed in the sect, Xue Yan. Running won't save you."

Though her vision blurred from pain, she fought through it. She wouldn't die here.

"I'm not running,"She said with a determined expression.

Seeing her response, Li Huangxi's brows twitched, clearly angered by it.

"Kill her!" he ordered, his voice laced with fury.

The two lackeys immediately rushed toward her. One darted to her side, slashing at her with a wide, aggressive swing.

"Emerald Sword Arts, Emerald Slash!" the boy yelled as his sword turned green for a brief moment, cutting through the air. But—Clang! The blade collided with a shimmering barrier, causing a ripple of cracks to spread across its surface.

Xue Yan barely had time to react as the second lackey appeared from behind her, preparing to use the same strike. However, before he could make a move, Boom! The ground beneath the two men exploded, sending a shockwave that forcefully knocked them both backward.

"Shit, what the hell was that?!" One of the lackeys yelled, spitting blood. He was lucky to have missed her strike. Had he connected, he would've been dead. The other, however, wasn't so fortunate. He was consumed by the blast, his body charred beyond recognition, leaving nothing but a blackened corpse on the ground.

"Damn it, she escaped again." Li Huangxi growled, his eyes narrowed as he stared at the direction of the explosion, clearly uninterested in the fate of his lackeys.
