Flashy Adventurer System : Show Off to Get Stronger!

Chapter 437: Second Mandatory Quest

After looting and destroying the entire syndicate hideout, Shye now had a total of 21,000 gold coins—an utterly astronomical amount for a rookie.

In addition to acquiring a large number of coins, he also obtained one rare-tier skill book (which he has already given to Shirley), four uncommon-tier skill books (two of which he learned for himself), and over ten common-tier skill books that he temporarily stored in the system's inventory. Furthermore, he collected a variety of elixirs, tonics, and pills with peculiar but beneficial uses.

However, most of them appeared to be illegal to use.

Still, Shye stored them in the system's inventory just in case he found himself in a desperate situation in which he needed to use one.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

...Over the past two days, Shye struggled to make a decision about his living situation, feeling conflicted about whether to purchase a house, rent temporary lodging on a monthly basis, or continue staying in inns.

After all, he would be out completing quests most of the time.

Hence, Shye thought that it would be better for him to stay at inns like he always did.

Although the rates were quite astronomical ranging from 100 silver coins to 2000 silver coins per night depending on the quality of the inn, since he would only be inside the city for around probably seven to nine days per month, renting rooms per night would be the cheaper and more optimal choice, at least until Shirley arrives.

After deciding that he would be staying at inns, Shye immediately searched the city for the best one, ultimately choosing an inn called the Gentle Pearl Inn which would set him back 700 silver coins per night.

The room he chose was a decent one, however, it wasn't on the level of the premium suite he always rented back at Balkrow.

Still, it shall do for now.

Shockingly, as he headed toward the guild's main headquarters, a notification popped up right in front of him.

[Your next mandatory quest has now been posted to the mandatory quests section.]

Shye's face instantly turned stern upon reading the system's notice.

He then immediately opened the system and navigated to the mandatory quests section to check what the quest was.

'Only one year to accomplish…huh?' Shye pondered with a serious look, trying to remember the information Seira told him about hero candidates.

According to her, to instantly become a hero candidate, one must fulfill all three requirements.

First, win the Valenzia Rookie Adventurer Competition, which is set to take place in about two months.

Second, be the first-year rookie with the highest guild contribution points across the entire region—a goal he believed he had already achieved. Nonetheless, he planned to complete a few more solo quests to ensure his lead.

Third, complete the special quest posted across all guilds in Valenzia City, the most challenging requirement, as he would be competing against third-year rookies for the first completion rewards.

Although there were other ways to become a hero candidate, Shye believed that those other requirements must not be achievable within a year and this was his only chance.

Hence, he planned to focus on accomplishing the mandatory quest before worrying about anything else.

After all, should he fail, the repercussions would be way too dire, enough for him to fall back down to the dog-eat-dog world of the so-called "geniuses" when his current strength was already on the level of veterans.

'First, let's check that so-called special quest…'

…Arriving at the headquarters, Shye immediately headed towards the enormous quest board located on the left side of the five quest counters.

Unfortunately, for a well-known super-rookie like him who once again made waves in the guild due to his historically fast promotion, things weren't bound to be peaceful.

While he was in the middle of looking for the special quest posted on the quest board, the voice of a middle-aged adventurer sounded from behind him.

"Hmpph, so you're Shye Crowley, huh?

Naturally, upon hearing such an arrogant tone, Shye would be annoyed. Still, he knew that he could not act recklessly in the main branch. At least not for now.

Thus, he only turned around after one deep breath.

"Yes, I am indeed Shye Crowley. Who might you guys be?"

"Hmmph! I'm Bernal Wild, a squadron leader of one of Raven's Blade's adventurer divisions, The Infernal Ravens.

I came here under the orders of our illustrious commander, the adamantite-ranked adventurer, Warren Glacier, to invite you to our division." Bernal said with a condescending tone, believing that as long as he didn't treat the so-called super-rookie as though he was something special, he would be able to secure him.

Furthermore, the status of their division wouldn't be tarnished by acting lowly in front of a mere rookie—the perfect fool-proof plan in Bernal's narrow mind.

Shye did not appreciate his approach.

However, he still responded politely, using a tone that was neither subservient nor arrogant.

"I see. Unfortunately, I'm not looking for a division right now so I would have to decline."

He then turned around and continued looking at the quest board.

"H-Hey! You bastard, you dare refuse the invitation of our squ–"

One of Bernal's men naturally spoke up for him, however, Bernal knew that mere words might not intimidate this so-called super-rookie.

Hence, he promptly stopped his underling from speaking, deciding to make a more aggressive approach—one that he believed would allow them to assert dominance over the rookie.

For a while, the small squadron of adventurers remained silent behind Shye, seemingly waiting for a specific action from him.

Then, just as he finally found the special quest and reached for it, Bernal's hand swiftly moved, and they both grabbed the quest paper simultaneously. Enjoy new tales from empire

"Oh, my bad, my bad. One of the rookies of our division wanted to take on the special quest so could you please let go? Or you may opt to challenge him for it."
